You don't feel like watching Cries and Whispers every evening.

Some nights, particularly after a tough day at work I just want to come home and watch something uncluttered and life affirming. But that doesn't mean I want to put myself through "The Blind Side" or some such sentimental schmaltz. There are some movies that manage to be emotional without being well.. shite.

Off the top of my head I'd put Up, Wall-E, Finding Nemo and Toy Story 3 there from Pixar. Cinema Paradiso is always a very good one to revisit. Decent sports movies, I find are also quite good for this purpose. Moneyball is one relatively recent example.

What movies would you put under this category?

All Dogs Go To Heaven is a good one.  ET I suppose you could include into this.  Babe for some reason is quite nice too.

For the more adult viewer I quite like Men of Honour, Forrest Gump, any of the Rocky films seem to be like that too.

I get what you are saying, but I just dont care. I dont care about flood victims or earth quake victims, the homeless, I'm an utter c*nt and you arent going to make me feel guilty about not caring.

Should also probably add almost all Studio Ghibli movies. Probably the only obvious exceptions are Grave of the Fireflies and the lesser known Ocean Waves.

Dazed and confused is always nice to watch.

If back to the future is on tv and Im flicking through the channels, unless i immediately turn it over i'll have to watch the rest of it. i get sucked in straight away. went to see it in the cinema on the 25th anniversary and it was even better on the big screen!

I worry about that boy.

The amount of awful shite he advocates as being good (music, TV, anything 'cultural) and yet he's never seen Back To The Future? The poor, lost soul.

On that note Anywhichwayucan - how about Twins?

It is still funny and charming even after the fifteenth time of watching it. The Twist and Shout parade float singalong is arguably the most feelgood moment in cinema history.

Every film I can think of for this is a 1980's American film; BttF, Bueller, Raiders of the Lost Ark, ET, Ghostbusters, Trading Places, Planes Trains and Automobiles, The Jerk, Airplane

I think I'll be going before we fold our arms
and start to weep
I never thought for a moment that human life

They'll stand there laughing and tramp the
