Would be strange if we had Newcastle.

It certainly feels like this season will be more southern based teams than normal, whether or not this is statistically the case I don't know. So you'd think they'd be trying to get as many teams from London (incl. Reading) playing away as possible in the opening weekend so as to not leave a massive amount for the London police to do around a pretty busy time for them.

Because the clubs put in the request that there isn't.

The main reason is the ticketing issue. It might not be so valid now with the recording of credits on fancards and the use of previous season loyalty etc... but the clubs used to ask people to keep match ticket stubs to be used to purchase an Everton/Man Utd ticket. They would have had no choice but to have a general sale if either were the first home game, which would of course have been mayhem for both supporters and the police.
