Not bad that. First 3 home games are boss.

December looks OK.

AUGUST

18 West Brom (A) - Win
25 Manchester City (H) - Loss

SEPTEMBER

1 Arsenal (H) - Win
15 Sunderland (A) - Loss
22 Manchester United (H) - Win
29 Norwich City (A) - Win

OCTOBER

6 Stoke City (H) - Win
20 Reading (H) - Win
27 Everton (A) - Win

NOVEMBER

3 Newcastle United (H) - Win
10 Chelsea (A) - Loss
17 Wigan Athletic (H) - Win
24 Swansea City (A) - Loss
27 Tottenham (A) - Loss

DECEMBER

1 Southampton (H) - Win
8 West Ham (A) - Loss
15 Aston Villa (H) - Win
22 Fulham (H) - Win
26 Stoke City (A) - Loss
29 QPR (A) - Win

JANUARY 2013

1 Sunderland (H) - Win
12 Manchester United (A) - Loss
19 Norwich City (H) - Win
29 Arsenal (A) - Loss

FEBRUARY

2 Manchester City (A) - Loss
9 West Brom (H) - Win
23 Swansea City (H) - Win

MARCH

2 Wigan Athletic (A) - Win
9 Tottenham (H) - Win
16 Southampton (A) - Win
30 Aston Villa (A) - Win

APRIL

6 West Ham (H) - Win
13 Reading (A) - Win
20 Chelsea (H) - Win
27 Newcastle United (A) - Loss

MAY

4 Everton (H) - Win
12 Fulham (A) - Loss
19 QPR (H) - Win

Doing only wins and losses, I've come up with 25 wins and 13 defeats. We'll end up drawing a lot of those wins and also defeats, so around 70 points should see us finish 4th. The key is to win everything in December and most in March April and May.
I would prefer a

With fixtures like that I suppose we should finally see a meaningful preseason.

tough start at home, but rodgers had a decent record against the big teams last year. a few good wins there and confidence will be high. could set us up for the season.

Deffo a tough start to the season but wow what a run in to the end.

If we are still in the mix by the city game in Feb then there is a great chance of high finish
In the last 13 games the "biggest" games would be Chelsea, Tottenham and the bitters but they are all at home and possibly Newcastle away but they may not be the side they were this season just gone.

Just started praying for a good start !!!

Why? Why fear for him? Looking at those opening fixtures at the moment:

18 West Brom (A)
25 Manchester City (H)
1 Arsenal (H)
15 Sunderland (A)
22 Manchester United (H)

Just had a look back, and under Rodgers last season, Swansea got nine points from those five fixtures. We'd definitely be happy with that.

Fuck it, you've got to play the some time. At least they're at home and not away.

I'd rather they were away.

Rodgers is bringing a different style of football to the club, that will take time to bed-in.  I'd rather be playing these teams at home later in the season after the players are used to the system and have a better understand about where each other will be.

Very difficult start.

Mancs always start the season slowly, Swansea beat City at home last season, Arsenal will have plenty of new signings to bed in. I dunno what you lot are worried about.  ;)

Swansea had been playing his style of football for a couple of years, they were used to it.  These toughest fixtures will be amongst our first few competitive matches under Brendan.

If we are in the top 6 end of January we have one hell of a chance of finishing in the top 4
.   JANUARY 2013

1 Sunderland (H)
12 Manchester United (A)
19 Norwich City (H)
29 Arsenal (A)

FEBRUARY

2 Manchester City (A)

Tough away sequence that.

On the positive side I'm on holiday for the first game, so glad its away.

Its not that we've got City Arse and United on the bounce at the start...the're at home.......the real problem is we have away visits to them in the second half of the  season when things will be really hotting up for us...be it playing to win the prem, relegation battle or tussling with Everton for 8th!

Initial thought about the first three home matches was fuck yes.

Lingering thought is that our season will either start on a flier or in a ditch. Those three matches could build some heavy momentum in a positive direction, and that's what it's all about ain't it? Better to start with these than to have them later.

I reckon its a brilliant first few games.  Gives the chance for the crowd to really start as we mean to go on at Anfield.  If you cant get an atmosphere at those 3 games then when can you?  If the atmosphere is boss for the first 3 games you never know it may kick on!  Much prefer to have tough fixtures than "easy wins" as it may take a bit of pressure off Rodgers as well.  Pessimists wont give him a chance, but if we come out of those games with some decent points it could really build confidence for the rest of the year.

Personally Im made up

Shit scared at the start of the season fixtures to be honest, with almost no pre-season and not a lot of time to work with the players, it will take a while for the players to adapt the new system , with Lucas still training to come back, Gerard will need a big fucking rest, as will suarez.

Let's home all our players are kicked out of the tournaments.

With a new manager, new staff and new philosophy? It's really NOT better to get them early. Realistically it could take 10 games before the team is playing anywhere near what Rodgers wants. Those first few games we could potentially be a bit all over the place struggling to adapt to a patient passing game.

It's a real pisser to start these hard games early in the season as it will make it harder to bed in a new footballing philosophy. This is where uefa will come in to help us try out our new style of play.

We have Europa League qualifying before the season starts so it could be a good thing in terms of the players getting a couple of game under their belt before the season starts.
"My coach told me to warm up just before the break. He told me I was going to take care of Kaka. I didn't think it was possible to turn things around but in the dressing room at halftime Rafa Benitez was calm - "We are Liverpool FC, we have so many fans, we are not going to be slaughtered. If we can score a goal quickly we push on from there.""

Not to fussed about that start, got to play everyone twice anyway so playing 3 big teams in the first 5 is good to get them out the way.

Another good way to look at playing big teams at home early in the season is it ensures a good atmosphere. Playing smaller team in games the crowd expects to win makes for a terrible atmosphere.

Ouch!! What a shocker of a starting set of games. Like Zlenpasha said, we can't afford to piss about in our pre-season games like we've been doing for the past few seasons. We need to treat each game as a serious stepping stone to building up some momentum heading into the season. The only season I can remember where we had an excellent pre-season was in 2008/09 and no wonder then that we had our best league start in donkeys years that season.

Of course, our players all returning in staggered batches after the Euros won't help things one bit. One more reason to hope England crash out of the tournament tomorrow.
