As we dawn on the Euro 2012 we go back in time to read this beauty of a piece: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/2641675.stm

Chris Kirkland worlds greatest keeper by 2008 hey?

"A brace by 19-year-old Michael Tonge against Liverpool on Wednesday, while 20-year-old Neil Mellor was scoring at the other end, added two more names to this term's astounding production line of promise."

:lmao What a pile of overly optimistic patriotic shite.

Fuck me, it got worse. A lot worse:

"This is where England excel, with the maverick talents of Joe Cole and David Dunn backed by the steel and vision of Steven Gerrard.

With Dunn (28 in 2008) and Cole (26 in 2008) possessing maturity and talent, all England need is for Gerrard (27) to end his current run of form which is, unfortunately, rubbish."

Brilliant, Wright-Phillips as a full back and David Dunn playing for England.
"The club was great, the people were great and the people from Liverpool - the text messages, the phone calls, the emails, all the tweets I had on my Twitter account - it's unbelievable how much respect they showed me and it's also a bit emotional" - Dirk Kuyt

Leeds' Paul Robinson, 23, is unlikely to be far behind his Liverpool rival and the two of them are likely to vie, Shilton-Clemence style, for the number one jersey for many years.

From the comments:

Liverpool are in such crisis when it could be fixed simply by recalling Richie Partridge on either wing, why sign a wide man when he is already at the club.

Saw the England squad yesterday in Krakow, as I'm on vacation here. Gave a shout out of good luck to all the Lfc players and got a thumbs up from Hendo! And perversely for some reason to hodgepodge and he turned looked at me and said thanks. I felt a little dirty for a while.

How could you! ;)

Carragher:-
....... Expressions of surprise at Hodgson’s tactics won’t make sense since everyone who has followed his career, particularly his recent success at Fulham and West Bromwich Albion, knows how he operates.

Obviously he tried during his brief time at Liverpool to introduce the same methods but it didn’t work. Naturally, I’m always asked why it went wrong so quickly for Roy at Anfield and it was due to a combination of circumstances.

First and foremost, I must be honest and say he was let down by the attitude of some star players who’ve since left the club. But it is also fair to say not everyone in the squad bought into his philosophy.

He wasn’t perceived as the right type of manager for Liverpool. When Brendan Rodgers was appointed last week he talked about his feeling of Anfield being his 'destination’ — revealing it was his ultimate ambition to manage us. ....
