I think getting as close to the top 4 as possible with 65+ points should be the target and a decent cup run wouldn't be bad either preferably the europa cup (blooding the youngsters in the group stages then taking it more seriously in the knock out phases.)

  • Thanks Rafa, YNWA.
1) See clear signs that the attacking passing/pressing philosophy is being implemented into the first team's style of play.

2) Bring in new young and hungry players to the squad whilst removing those who are unwilling or unable to adopt the clubs new playing ethos.

3) Improve on 52 league points - something which should be achievable given the players at Rodgers disposal. Personally I would be disappointed not to get at least 60.

4) Improve our home league form - we should be aiming to win at least 10 home league matches.

5) Good run in the Europa League to help improve co-efficient rating and also use as a learning curve for Rodgers when he actually takes us into the Champions League.

That's the important thing, I feel. Some signs of progress.

Like most, I want to see an improvement in the way we play instead of being "rudderless". I want to see signs of what BR's footballing philosophy promises. All that has to translate to better results especially winning more games at home.

If we talk points, then I think that's a realistic aim. 65+ points.

09/10: 63 points.
10/11: 58 points.
11/12: 52 points.

Even 09/10 wasn't a very good season by our standards. If we go by points, 65 has to be a minimum target. (And again, failure to reach it does not equal a sacked manager).

In my mind Kenny would of improved us anyway. So I need Rodgers to improve us more than what I think Kenny would of done.

So my expectatations are top 5 in the PL.

Points tally has been on the slide for 3 seasons.  Need to make clear points progress.  I'd say the hope would be to make 65-70 points.  That puts us close to top 4 and is a clear improvement.  I actually think we can do better than that, but with a new manager and new style of play it will take time to get things right.

Manager will not be sacked for failing to make top 4.  Only a total disaster would lead to sacking imo.

One game at a time.  Approach each game to win it. If 90 minutes of graft goes into each game I'll be happy.

Not sure why we should be targeting just an improvement on 52 points. 55 is an improvement but surely that will be unacceptable?

Why go for fourth? Why not go for first? If we get fourth by trying to get first I think most would be happy. However, if we get seventh by targeting fourth do we start another manager search?

Newcastle have a better team than ours?

If all our players are fit, then I'd argue only Cisse would get in our team.

They have better goal scorers, but other than that we are better than them in every aspect of the pitch.

Who is better?

Reina or Krul - a few years ago no contest but Krul is now on the up and I would have him
Kelly or Simpson - Kelly
Enrique or Santon - equal
Colocinni or Agger - Agger
Williamson or Skrtl - Skrtl
Ben Arfa or Henderson - Ben Arfa
Guiterrez or Downing - Guiterrez
Cabaye or Lucas  - Cabaye
Tiote or Gerrard - Gerrard
Cisse or Carroll -Cisse
Ba or Suarez - Suarez

In terms of individual players it is 5 of each and one tie.

However I feel Newcastle played better as a team than we did over the season.

Shouldnt you compare Lucas with Tiote and Gerrard with Cabaye?

Cabaye probably played better than Gerrard over the season.     :'(
Tiote and Lucas are very similar.

I fear we may not see Gerrard back to the player he was 3 or 4 years ago.

More the point they played out of their skins for the club last year, and our lot under achieved massively and cost the boss his job in essence, i dont buy this Kenny would have got an improvement next season reasoning, show me another club who are giving the same excuse, our starting teams last year were an embarrassment to the club, too many Charlies thinking they had made the bigtime and didnt have to put effort and work in. Rodgers needs to get hold of this lot and shake them up, if he doesnt get the response needed ship the lot out and start again

I think I'll wait and see what transfer business we do before the season starts.  I would say that top 6 and maybe semi finals in Europe with a good showing in the domestic cups would be a solid start.

Personally I wouldn’t swap a fully fit Lucas for anyone in the EPL, before his injury he was playing some of his best football ever.  His ability to break up the opposition play and recycle the ball for us was so badly missed after his injury.  I hope with time he recovers and returns to be the player he was becoming for us, a true world class player.

The minimum requirement is fourth.  However, just don't think that we'll manage that.  I think we may have to settle for some points progress with a bedding in period for the new manager.  No more sackings please!!

I just want competitiveness. Lose no more than 2 games at home all season. Lets have a good solid home record.

First season under Rodgers, I'd be happy with top 6 and no more than 20 points off the eventual winners..

To be in contention at xmas would be magic.

Above all...

We had an angry, defensive club, fighting everyone for all the wrong reasons last season.

That had a massive effect on our league form from November onwards.

Happy club = Results will take care of themselves.

Really good point.

When Kenny first took over in Jan last year this is exactly what we had.  There was a fantastic attitude and feeling around the team and this translated onto the pitch and the results we gained.

I know we changed a bit of the playing squad over the summer and no doubt that effected things but dont underestimate how getting the players we already have in the right frame of mind will pay huge dividends for us

My expectation is that Liverpool will start relatively slowly, lots of possession but not many goals.  There will be lots of comments that nothing has really changed other than the manager and the formation.  Most of the blame will be put on the players.  As the season goes on the form of the team will pick up as the system becomes more and more familiar to the team.  Someone will point out that "if we had played like we have between Date 1 and Date 2 we would be challenging for the title.  Final result top 6, still with a shot at the top 4 in March, encouraging signs but no Champions League.  In the Europa League getting through the group stage and then getting knocked out before the semi-final.  Not much progression in the FA cup because it won't be viewed as that important.  A youth/development side captained by Carragher that gets through until other teams start taking it a bit seriously.

I think the minimum requirement is 8th while playing the same system as the development sides.  The results can't be worse than under Kenny, but with some sign of the progress of a plan throughout the club (which the owners didn't see under Kenny) Rodgers can do as well.

RAWK will be split between those who love this "tiki-taka, modern football" and those who don't think it direct enough.

Give us 110% and see what happens as I feel only a couple of lads last season even came close to their potential and let the boss and us down badly.  Ideally a good challenge on a top 4 place and as the season goes along we can start to aim even higher if the team get their shit together.

Realistically, I see no reason why we shouldn't be fighting for fourth place ?

Rodgers has inherited a squad which vastly underperformed in the P.L. but did get to two Cup finals winning one (two more than both Manchester clubs, Arsenal, Spurs and Newcastle)

Man City, Chelsea, and Man Utd I'd expect to finish above us but we should be challenging Arsenal and Spurs.

and if we finish below Newcastle again Id be very very disappointed.

We need to show some ambition atleast

It's nothing to do with ambition. Obviously we all want to see the club back at the top and we want to be challenging for the titles and cups consistently.
However, when asked about what we EXPECT this season, it'd be a bit harsh to say "title winners" even if that is our eventual ambition.
There's nothing wrong with setting our expectations lower than our ambitions, they'll rise in time.

My expectation is steady improvement season after season(measured in points earned) and gradual shift towards a pleasing style of football. Then re-evaluate where we stand after 2 years.By then we will be in the last year of Rodger's current contract.
Barring a miracle, top is gonna be very difficult for us in next two seasons imo.
