I'd move him on. A club legend, no doubt. But if he really still does have the intention to play Premier League football, there are a lot of sides he could do a job for but not Liverpool.
It's just sex and violence, melody and silence.

Theres not much between Carra and Coates in ability now...ones the better footballer and the other has the experience...The difference is one will get better
and one wont....its a no brainer in my opinion and there is only one decision that makes any sense for the future...Coates is going to be very good...

It's fashionable to have a pop at Carragher on here at the minute. We all know how RAWK loves a fad.
I don't think he should be anywhere near the first team anymore, but the character assassination is a tad over the top.

In one.
The production of too many useful things results in too many useless people.

Wont happen. No one can afford his wages and we aren't going to just pay off the final year of his contract, that serves absolutely no purpose.

Coaching role?!

No one can afford his wages

Unless he does an Anelka or Eto'o and goes to China or Russia to get those wages.

Coaching role?!

Think that's the way it's going to go unfortunately.
"My coach told me to warm up just before the break. He told me I was going to take care of Kaka. I didn't think it was possible to turn things around but in the dressing room at halftime Rafa Benitez was calm - "We are Liverpool FC, we have so many fans, we are not going to be slaughtered. If we can score a goal quickly we push on from there.""

I think he'll see out his contract over this coming season and probably start between 10-15 games (unless we have an injury crisis).

After that I wouldn't be surprised to see him move on, either by retiring or maybe taking a last payday in the US or somewhere.
Sit down, shock is better taken with bent knees.

He should be sold but I'd imagine he'd want to stay and see out his lucrative contract.

He has nothing to add to the first team or squad to be honest, he should do the decent thing and retire.  5m a year on wages is a hideous waste.

Based on what exactly?
How about he proves his coaching skills elsewhere first, before he is employed.
Is that really too much to ask?

Somehow I can`t see Carras long balls fitting in with Rodgers possesion based controlling football. Fourth choice CB with next season being his last before moving into coaching.

At the end of next season a very big thank you to a long serving legend who`s put his body on the line time and again for this club.

Surely he's good enough to keep for this season to help bring younger players on and to be a squad player when we need cover.

this

as for coaching role,no thanks...he's xenophobic, and i dont want him anywhere near that role,at  junior or senior level it doesnt matter

Is he? I think you should think carefully before describing someone you don't know as xenophobic.

I hardly post on here because I don't feel too comfortable with how moderated the forum is at times, I'm surprised comments like the above are accepted though. Interesting.

If we opened the debate on why Carra shouldn't get a coaching role this thread will get locked.  Personally I'm against it.  When people say Rafa would be devisive if he'd returned, I think Carragher has the same question mark hanging over him for different reasons.  Again I dont think it's a debatable issue on Rawk.

and anyone would have done the same if in his position.

Just like getting a pay rise at work.

If it was just a pay rise then Carragher is just another employee of the club.Stop with all the legendary player riff-raff then. People can't have it both ways.

Why?

Cause like it or not he is a student of the game and knows his stuff. It's not shock rat boy is coaching England cause he is in the same mould as Carra.

Simple question - What should his role be at the club from next season?

- Still a first team player, third choice behind Agger / Skrtel?

- Very much fourth choice, with Coates third choice?

- Fifth or sixth choice - with Wisdom, Kelly and Wilson back up to Skrtel, Agger and Coates?

- Coaching role?

- Other?

One of Rodgers toughest tasks this summer is to decide what to do with Carraagher.

Lets have respectful replies please to one of our best players and certainly most committed players the last decade.

Let's try and stick to the question and not debate whether or not Carragher should have got his last lucrative contract.

He has that contract, whether right or wrong, that can't be changed.  But his future role with us (or somewhere else) is what matters more and the point of the topic.

Bet you would of took Hyypia in a coaching role with us straight after his last playing season though?

Such as what?

I don't like him saying the club should pander to the likes of Martin O'Neil and Steve Bruce, I don't like him criticising our managers, I don't like him saying that it's better for Liverpool signing British players so that his wife finds it easier to speak to their wives and what it potentially could mean for him as a coach, I don't like him shouting at his teammates even when it's his fault and what it potentially could mean for him as a coach, I don't like the press pushing him to be part of our coaching set up and the cynic in me thinks it's there's been at least little push from him in that department, I don't like the fact that he signed a new contract a few hours before FSG took over and what it potentially could mean for him as a coach and I don't like all the stuff that went on whilst Rafa was in charge. So no, I don't want want him to be a coach here and I'd prefer us to let him go as soon as possible.

How is he a student of the game? How do you know he knows his stuff? There's no evidence to suggest he'd be a good coach.
