He must have had permission for that surely? At first it just sounded like he'd sampled and bastardised the riff, then the 'vocals' start and its got the exact same rythm as the vocals in the last minute and a half of Float On

Metallica - The Four Horsemen

Megadeth - Mechanix

That's just Mustaine using the riff he wrote. ... Or Metallica using the album he wrote. Either way you want to look at it.

Oasis' "She's Electric" has a part nicked from The Kinks "Wonderboy".
The Who's "Can't Explain" is pretty much them doing early Kinks, Townsend has later admitted this. Shel Talmy was a link betweem the two bands, and perhaps that's was why that Who's single sounded so much like the Kinks.
Harrison's My Sweet Lord, same melody as The Chiffon's "He's So Fine".
Many many Zeppelin examples - brutal way of stealing stuff and making money with them.

No Beatles examples yet? There are plenty!

I don't care if they nicked it, Figh Test still sounds great!

Nicked from Wiki:

"Fight Test" is musically very similar to Cat Stevens's 1970 song "Father and Son." Stevens, now Yusuf Islam, is receiving royalties following a relatively non-contentious settlement.[3] In an interview with The Guardian, front man Wayne Coyne stated

I want to go on record for the first time and say that I really apologize for the whole thing. I really love Cat Stevens. I truly respect him as a great singer-songwriter. And now he wants his money. There was a time during the recording when we said, this has a similarity to 'Father and Son'. Then we purposefully changed those bits. But I do regret not contacting his record company and asking their opinion. Maybe we could have gone 50–50. As it is, Cat Stevens is now getting 75 per cent of royalties from 'Fight Test', We could easily have changed the melody but we didn't. I am really sorry that Cat Stevens thinks I'm purposefully plagiarising his work. I am ashamed. There is obviously a fine line between being inspired and stealing. But if anyone wanted to borrow part of a Flaming Lips song, I don't think I'd bother pursuing it. I've got better things to do. Anyway, Cat Stevens is never going to make much money out of us.'[4]

Here's The Enemy ripping off two very famous songs virtually chord-for-chord.

Holy god.. :butt

As irritating as Oasis can be, they have never even come close to the abhorrent sludge that is the Enemy's music.

Their singer is an absolutely reprehensible thick bastard with a chip on his shoulder about the fact he's an ugly c*nt from an ugly town with shite trabs and no discernable talent. I was genuinely shocked at their success because it means there are lots more deaf people out there than I previously thought.

Checking on the British Deaf Association website, it reckons there are 9 million deaf people in the UK. So sadly there's even more potential for them to sell more records as by my recoking they've only cracked a million or so.

Fuck.

Is that the devil's riff or something? That's unbelievable!

He must have had permission for that surely? At first it just sounded like he'd sampled and bastardised the riff, then the 'vocals' start and its got the exact same rythm as the vocals in the last minute and a half of Float On

I'm not too sure mate but going by some of the comments on the video it says his label were forcing him to do the song despite him being against it which he's apparently spoken out against.

Most people in this world are tits. The fact they have an allegiance with Liverpool Football Club doesn't change that.

Spiritualized also stole the lyric 'There's a hole in my arm where all the money goes' from Sam Stone IIRC...Cop Shoot Cop. Tune that, might have to stick it on.

Here's The Enemy ripping off two very famous songs virtually chord-for-chord.

Common People

London Calling

Utterly shameless. And they're a shit band to begin with, this just makes them even worse. Embarrassing.

The evolution of a riff...

Bowie seems to have lifted this song, available on the Nuggets compilation album.

Yes, but to be fair it's such a common chugging riff it's inescapable that it would be a popular basis for many tunes, sort of proto punk like in it's simplicity and very easy to noodle over with lyrics and other instruments.

Here's another variant on the same theme...

Heres another one from the Nuggets LP. Mouse & The Traps (lol) ripping off Dylans Like A Rolling Stone,
