Well that didn't last long!

He spoke well though. Took his time to answer the questions sensibly and thoroughly, batted away two questions on the 'raiding of Swansea' very nicely and clearly stated his opinion on the DoF role. So whilst the most extended of press conferences we got confirmation of a few things at least.

Love Rodgers cutting in on Ayre and clarifying.
haha class that. you can tell he's not coming in all meek and nervous to this club. he's confident and he's got fucking balls. VERY impressed with that, he's got a real steeliness when he speaks and you can tell he won't take any shit.

Interesting last comment by Ayre - unless i heard wrong, he was asked directly if anyone would be specifically appointed to that role re dof. He seemed to say no...

He said 'correct'. Question was for confirmation there would be no DOF.

So we scrapped the structure we intially wanted to get Brendan Rodgers?

:lmao

Not sure.  Remember, Ayre was saying there wouldn't be a DoF, but a collaborative structure like they're talking about now, a day after Kenny was let go.  I doubt they'd talked to Rodgers by then, let alone decided to jettison their structure at his demand.

These press conferences are so pointless, mostly stupid questions like how do you feel etc that we know the answer is gonna be a standard one. Only the questions about DoF that really interested me there.

The fact Tom Werner emphasised attacking play is hopefully a good sign - this is what they expect from him, rather than just talking about "targets" in terms of league position etc.

It also looks like Brendan realises that living near the city will help him to settle within the club

Came across well, spoke intelligently, calmly and with passion. Was respectful to Kenny, the club, the supporters and Swansea. But what impressed me most is how he's obviously his own man.
FSG were obviously so impressed with him that they've basically strung their nutsack to his vision and are hoping it comes off. Fair play to him for doing that, he obviously knows what he wants. I have to say, it reminded me of Rafa. This is definitely FSG dancing to Brendan's tune, not the other way round.

Key Points
1 - Wants to take LFC to the top
2 - Will continue his brand of football
3 - No agreement in place to not poach Swansea players
4 - No DoF structure, it will be Brendan's team in place primarily with other existing key LFC staff
5 - Steve Clarke may not be part of that future, although it sounded like there will be discussions
6 - Ian Ayre's a fudge
7 - Brendan Rodgers is the real deal
"So Bierhoff’s got a short time to press his claims, now that the other two strikers who started the match have both been taken off……Kuntz."

Still a little confusing on the DOF/whatever name front.

If we bring someone in, I suppose they will work together. Hope it works out.

very impressive performance before the cameras, came across very well and seems a very decent guy (particularly liked him cutting off Ayre's bullshit there and his insistence with not working with a DOF).

now remains to be seen if this huge gamble will pay off where it counts.

Doesn't it leave us in exactly the same position we have been in since FSG arrived with FSG wanting to go down the Continental route of reducing the power of the manager but a Manager who isn't standing for it. Rodgers came across really well but was already in direct conflict with Ayre.
One thing does need to be said: in the post-Benitez era, there was media-led clamour (but also some politicking going on at the club) to make the club more English; the idea being that the club had lost the very essence of what it means to be ‘Liverpool’. Guillem Ballague 18/11/10

This is how a new manager of Liverpool Football Club should conduct himself during an interview. Respectful + impressive vision & attitude.

Made it pretty clear that a Director of Football is a definite NO! Couldn't of been more blunt when he jumped in on Arye there.
Can only wish him all the best and hope he's the start of something great.
Bickering has to stop, Rafa and Kenny have gone and its now a new era. We as supporters need to give him 100% support unless he suddenly turns into Hodgson, which ain't going to happen.
Bring on next season.

Hopefully, that interview will win over a few of the doubters. Rodgers was very impressive. Humble, articulate, passionate, I think if we give him time, he can be the man to build us our new dynasty.

Thought he looked nervous at times, but thats to be expected. One part that stuck out for me was on the the issue of DOF when the question was asked would they be employing anyone in that position, the question was aimed at Rodgers, but he stalled and Ayre answered "no" . A bit of uncertainty there. Overall a positive press conference and nice to see him talk about Ireland.

I don't think he seemed in conflict with Ayre, it came across a lot more as Rodgers being the dominant alpha male and that's the way it's going to be.

I don't think there's anything wrong with altering an idea if it's going to mean progression. Besides, we never got definitive confirmation we'd be having a DoF so it could have been yes, that was the idea initially but it may have always been a flexible one.

No matter what anyone at the Club says now regarding that people will twist it to suit their own beliefs, so we might as well just accept what we've actually heard 'from the horses mouth' so to speak.

Rodgers will be similar to Rafa, he will give 110% effort into this club and won't be standing for any shit.

Certainly seems that way, he handled himself well at that press conference.

spoke very well, the way he conducts himself is very impressive.  i think he is going to win people over quite easily.   He is just the type of manager this club is looking for, he may not have had a chance to prove himself at the highest level but he seems to have the personality that will get the best out of players......i just pray we get off to a good start in the league to stave off the doubters!

That's not what was said. Ayre said they approached a number of people,,during the process.  But only Rodgers was offered the job.

They didn't say that Mac. There was a process, they talked to people, but the only offer they made was to the man they identified as their target after the process.

That's what they said. Might not be true, but that's the statement.
