Played 30 minutes of 2 and 3 and got bored.

They should have improved as each game went on, they didn't, they suffer from Halo-ism in the fact that each game is all to similar to the last.

GOW3 was the best of the lot.

Not sure where that picture is from, but if that's anything related to the game, then it seems like E-Day would be the centre of the story.
Believe.

No idea how you can say they didn't get better if you only played the first 30 minutes like you said you did.. ;)

The problem with number 2, for me, was the online. They'd changed it so much it went awful and the lag was horrible.
Loved the third one though and the multiplayer is superb.

I say 30 minutes but get quite far.

Was probably about 2 hours knowing me ;D

Liked the first, then just lost interest with each new release. Just leave it at 3.

It'll most likely be developed by People Can Fly, who made Bulletstorm and are owned by Epic. It could be the 360's last great (financial) hurrah or a big money spinner to launch a new platform with. And for those who say GOW hasn't improved since one, it tells me that you've never played online in each iteration. So much better.

I've played online on all of them, still think the 2nd and 3rd are no better.

The story is all over the place, the gameplay is practically the same with just a few new animations per gsme and the enemy ai is shocking half the time.

I loved the first, but 4 games is 3 to many IMO.

The first is undoubtedly the best story-wise and my favourite overall, just down to the fun I had with friends online and it's fresh impact. Not the best technically though. For all of Epic's attempts to make the game more 'epic,' Gears always worked better as a claustrophobic cover-based shooter against small groups of enemies. The defense of Marcus's home in GOW 1 was insanely brilliant. 2 and 3 had awful campaign modes, I'll admit to that. 3's was just fluff all the way through. But to say they haven't imrpoved? Can't agree with that. If you spent a decent amount of time online in each one, you would have seen all the exploits and unfair play that many players came to discover in the games. Such as 'two-piecing' and 'cover-bouncing.' With each iteration Epic have made the gameplay smoother with more nuances and less exploitation. Granted three has it's own online problems, but it's a great all round multiplayer package when you consider the excellent horde-mode also (a mode which every shooter since has ripped-off, and rightly so). The story stagnated and the attempts to make it more bombastic took the series too far from it's roots. The multiplayer just kept getting better and better though. I played Gears 2 (3 less so because of an increased workload this year) in the way many played Cod. I reached the top rank which took something like 12 days of play. I really loved the online that much. Great series, defines the xbox 360.

Doubt this will be a 'Gears of war 4' anyway, more likely to be like an Halo ODST game. So just a big add on basically.

Still looking forward to it. :)

Bulletstorm was silly but great fun, took endless piss out of itself and its competitors/ genre bedfellows. They're a good up and coming developer and Epic are right to push them to the forefront of the operation. Give them a Gears-sized budget and I'm eagerly anticipating the results.

I'm not sure it'll be a 'big add-on,' but I think you're right thinking along the lines of ODST. I doubt it'll be a numbered sequel anyway. It'll either be Pendulum wars based, Emergence day/ early locust uprising, or a game that concentrates on Zeta squad (Barrick etc, the star of the comics) instead of Delta. Prequel territory probable. Although I'd love a pendulum wars game, will they do a Gears without Locust? Would be interesting and mix it up a little.

Interesting pics there. Baird and Cole (I think it's him) in chains? Not entirely sure where they're going with this now. Baird and Cole are better than Marcus and Dom anyway. Especially the Cole Train ;D That's assuming the game's based around them, there's still a chance we'll see the entire of Delta squad in chains. I'm not sure how that would fit the canon though, as the Locust are  I didn't think they'd bring a Gears game out without locust. They've become (to an extent) an iconic enemy.

We've heard nothing about Baird or the Cole Train previously being in jail, and indeed in the first GOW, it's obvious that they've never met before.

I'd suggest if those posters are official, then the game will be based after the Locust Wars.

Rod Fergusson of Epic has just confirmed that it's all based around Baird and his time as a Lieutenant in charge of Kilo squad several years before GOW 1.
