Think we have other priorities personally.

Deffo agree with this. Need someone who can cover/play alongside Lucas before buying another offensive midfielder.

Everyone claims this very little change to the squad ignoring the fact we lost the focal point of the side. That's what happens when you lose that in your team.

I don't care if people would swap our squad, we aren't as good as people love to make out. Every year its the same, excuses on top of excuses rather than just facing fucking reality. There's only a handful of teams who still have a fantastic squad when you take away their top performers, makes no difference whatsoever.

People can claim we just underachieved all they want, you could just as easily argue they underachieved aswell given the position they were in and how strong their side is

/

If he goes there so be it, its his choice but its so embarassing seeing the same kind of thing always watered down by our fans recently

Where has anyone said we have a fantastic squad?

People are saying we have a better squad than Spurs, on paper, especially now given Modric, Adebayor, King and VdV are likely to or have left.

Now thats only on paper, how it goes on the pitch depends on the manager, both of which have changed recently.

You listed some options as to why we haven't matched the Spurs wages (apparently), I was adding one more to the list.

Would you give suarez a new contract to beat of interest  and he had earned a new deal? I think they were right to give Bale a new deal.
The rest of your post backs up the theory they are looking to build a younger and better squad, again that makes sense to me. Until the window closes we can't knock them for not having cover in certain areas, would you not agree?

They didn't give Modric a rise when he was asking to leave last year?  Bale had 3 years on his existing contract.  Levy stood firm against Modric last year, and could have done the same with Bale if clubs came sniffing this year.
It's also worth noting he has signed a new 4 year deal.  That's just 12 months extension on his old contract but for a lot more money!

Not great news, but far from disaster.

Last season we wanted a young Centre-back. We went for Phil Jones, who was the obvious choice and looked fantastic, but snubbed us in favour of United.

We ended up with Coates, who I think has probably performed at a consistently higher level than Jones all season (although obviously with less games) and we payed far less for him.

Still a long way to go until midnight on 31st August.

We're shite, lets face it. We can't even attract half decent players anymore.

This clubs sold its soul to the corporation, you want to see what Liverpool fc is all about these days?
It's not the 11 players on the pitch Anymore it's the 350 odd staff working in the city centre trying to generate extra cash for the company. It's grey not red.

I don't know because i didn't claim anyones said that.

That's great but what does that really count for at the end of the day ? Its not even worth saying since its counts for next to nothing.

we don't have a very good squad, its good but not much more than that. Every single season our squad is 'better than ______' 'only needs a few tweaks then we can do this' 'can really push for this' then it comes to reality and all that goes out the window because other teams work better in the transfer market and deal with their problems developing better squads and they go on to do what they need to on the field rather than in the theory season.

So many people refuse to believe anything negative until its slapping them in the face. Just look at this thread, people kidding themselves into thinking he's still coming here when its been plain as day since spurs agreed a fee that he was going there. If you dare to actually say that you're wrong/a pessimist/going by what skysports says/you don't know that. Its not hard to read a situation and anticipate the outcome, happens on a daily basis with us.

Our squad is not good enough, putting down other teams won't make it good enough, the RAWK special 'add 2 top class players' won't make it good enough, we need alot more than people will actually admit. the sooner they realise that the better.

Sigurdsson isn't coming here, its been clear for some time now. If i'm wrong i will be ecstatic, but i genuinely do not believe i am

If he is indeed off to Spurs, can't blame him. If I a choice between the Mancs and Spurs, I'd choose Spurs too. Also Spurs are better than us at the minute anyway.

Not too fussed though. Players like Sigurdsson aren't hard to come by.

Not that difficult to see why reaching for a few extra million for this kid has put us off, especially if it impacted on our budget for other players. We have other areas of the pitch that are of more pressing concern. I'm pretty sure Sigurdsson was seen as a favourite of Rodgers that could be brought in relatively cheaply. The game changed. The numbers didn't add up for Rodgers and co.

Well I have always said I don't think we should be going for him, as we are strong in that area.

Maybe that is why I am not too disappointed.

Well it depends on peoples perception of the position. If you look at the current options

Gerrard - The Euros performances have many feeling he should play the deeper role for us
Aquilani - Many just want him gone or dont rate him
Shelvey - Highly rated but still young
Cole - Same as Aquilani

Now factor in that sigurdsson is so young, cheap and has worked with our new manager twice, its hardly suprising people want him here. I feel we could cope without his signing but i still want him here, if he doesn't come i would like us to go for another AM but if we don't i feel we have players we could use there. I'm firmly in the camp of Gerrard, Aquilani and Shelvey at AM and money being pumped into buying a top class DM who can also play alongside Lucas but i know many aren't. Sigurdsson was a great option but we've missed out unfortunately.

Players still went to clubs like Man City and Chelsea and they never used to be the top clubs until the money came to them. If we had the money he would be joining us and not them. To me it is all money related and not the fact Spurs are better.

For me a goalscoring attacking midfielder would be one of our obvious needs (I don't see Gerrard playing there), that said I think we have a fair few needs and they're not all going to get addressed this transfer window unless we have a lot more cash to spend than anyone suspects.

Surely would also take into account... both had a change of manager recently, one of which getting in a manager you know and like the other is up in the air having lost a manager many credit with getting Spurs performing. Spurs are likely to lose a number of key players.

If Sigurdsson was happy to sign for Swansea for £30k per week, but he's unwilling to sign for us for £45k per week then frankly i'd be asking questions as to whether he's the kind of player we want or need. If his head is likely to be turned every time his agent flutters a potential payrise in front of him then perhaps not.

this is from a few pages ago but i had to go back it because it's bullshit. at 30k he would have been one of the highest earners in Swansea, at 45k he would have been one of the  lowest paid first teamers in Liverpool. simply playing for a club with the stature of Liverpool you'd expect to be paid better than you have been.

But the point is we do have other options for that position.  Even Suarez could play that 'number 10' role.

I'd rather we improved cover for Lucas, our attacking wide positions and getting a clinical striker, than getting another option in a position we already have some good options, a great one in Gerrard's case.

I still would like to see Gerarrd higher up the field personally, despite playing well for England deeper.

Hoepfully, Sigurdsson signing for Spurs should wake some people up about how far we've fallen in these last few years.

On a footballing level, it makes sense for him. They're the better team. On a financial level, they're paying him more.

Was a time not so long ago where we'd just have to click our fingers for Spurs' best players to come to us.

I agree personally but i'm not going to be incredibly disappointed either way, we are strong there in my opinion but i do feel that could change given the constant uncertainty surrounding the players who we would use there. Various things like injury, the constant loans, suitability for the role all come into play in differing ways for that set of players. It would be great to have a specialist AM who's nailed on to stay here and has a decent injury record. To me that is essentially what Sigurdsson was going to be

Talking strictly players we can use there to good effect we have

Gerrard
Aquilani
Suarez
Shelvey
Cole (potentially)
Pacheco

and maybe more if you want to delve deeper and introduce the younger stars like Suso and Adorjan
