Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was a Liverpool fan.

And Ronnie Whelan was a boyhood Man Utd fan.

If he doesnt come here I doubt its because of Man U.

Too many conspiracies.

This will come down to money and perhaps what he perceives as a quicker route to success with Spurs.

If he's got more of a thinkers head on his shoulders and he looks at our 'project', hopefully he may realise that by, as some might say, taking two steps backwards, he may in actual fact take more steps forward in his career in the long run, including financially.

We'll see!

Lot of fucking handwringing going on.

Like it or not Spurs are a lot better proposition than we are at the moment.

We shouldn't rely on the Brendan factor to seal the deal, incredibly arrogant if true.

Spurs.                                                                         Liverpool

More money.                                                               Brendan Rodgers.
Better team last 3 years.
London.
Pathway to Utd still open.
Fewer players for his position.

Get over it, on paper it looks like a no-brainer.

I agree. Sure we have an unrivalled history, and what we represent in footballing terms is as prestigious as they come. But at this moment in time we are a far-cry from where we want to be. Spurs are closer to it than us, it's a fact.

So they offer you a significantly higher pay-package, in one of the greatest city's in the world, a guarantee that you will be a key-figure - which, he must be if they're willing to pay them wages - in a stronger squad, with probably more chance of development too. We don't know our potential yet as a team, Spurs do.

If he does go to Spurs, then so be it, good luck to him. He's not going to single-handedly fix our problems, just add more strength - and as many credible sources have claimed, we are after better options anyway. The only reason we were ever interested is because he is a player Brendan could actually be in for without disrespecting his former club.

He is a manc fan and is widely known.

He doesn't come across as a money man. He was willing to join Swansea.

Andy Carroll was a lifelong newcastle fan, from newcastle, playing as their number 9 and he signed for Liverpool.

As for the real topic, who a player supports has no bearing on anything Robbie Keane is on his fifth boyhood team,

Nail on fucking head Geoff. Who gives a flying fuck who they support? They're professional sportsmen and they'd give their best for us, in the same way we've all worked our nuts off for people, places or companies that we've got no particular affiliation to. I'd happily take United's £100,000 per week and I'd give my all for them, no problems at all, regardless of how much I love Liverpool.

Yeah, cos Man United only ever sign Spurs players  :butt

How many games did Michael Owen play for Spurs ?

What you bashing your head for?

Directly liverpool to utd rarely happens.

Owen played for 2 other clubs before joining utd!

Not saying we havent ever signed a utd fan - what I am saying is that if it's the lads dream to join utd then signing for us makes that dream ten times harder for it to ever happen.

If Messi was offered a million a game to play for Real madrid do you think he'd turn it down by fuck he would, loyalty among footballers.. there's no such thing money talks.

I highly doubt messi would join Madrid for an extra million a game.

Not everyone is motivated by money!

http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11661/7851518/Spurs-set-to-land-Sigurdsson

Sky Sports sources understand Tottenham are set to complete the signing of Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson next week.

The Hoffenheim midfielder is reported to have already agreed terms with the White Hart Lane club and passed a medical prior to putting pen to paper.

Sigurdsson is set to become the first new signing for Andre Villas-Boas, with the former Chelsea boss the red-hot favourite to be appointed as Harry Redknapp's replacement in the coming days.

The 22-year-old former Reading man joined Swansea on loan in January and made an instant impact with a number of impressive goal-scoring displays in the Premier League.

He was expected to complete a permanent switch to the Liberty Stadium only for the deal to be thrown into doubt when manager Brendan Rodgers departed for Liverpool.

The Reds were also keen to lure Sigurdsson to Anfield, only for Spurs to steal a march on their Premier League rivals.

Despite no manager being in place in north London following the shock departure of Redknapp, Spurs look set to win the race for Sigurdsson, who cost Hoffenheim £6million when he moved to the Bundesliga two years ago.

Doubt that has anything to do with that. These days it's all about money and as soon as players get the chance of a salary bump they will jump ship. This is demonstrated pretty well in the current Rangers saga, where players instead of sticking with the new Rangers club and get a transfer fee for them, prefer to cancel their contracts and get a nice signing up fee with a different club.

In fairness while agree that it is in large bout simply about money these days, to make a comparison between a player joining a club for  more wages and the players leaving Newco (who they didn't sign for in the first place) is slightly ludicrous.

We really shouldn't discount the Rodgers factor, I know he has only been here a while but the way he talks you can tell he is the sort of manager players will run through a brick wall for. On the one hand I don't blame the club for trying to bring sanity back to the way we do our deals after what has happened in previous windows and I can fully understand Gylfi trying to hold out for a better deal because.
He played for Rodgers at Reading
He then moved to Swansea on loan to play for Rodgers
He was willing to move permanently to Swansea to, wait for it, yes play for Rodgers
Rodgers leaves Swansea and goes to Liverpool
He then decides he is not going to Swansea

I still believe that the lure of playing for Rodgers and playing for Liverpool is a greater lure than playing for Luķs André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas and Spurs....

Think about - he followed Rodgers but now Rodgers is at Liverpool he doesn't want to join us.

For me he doesn't want to play for Liverpool due to his love of Utd if he doesn't join.

But it seems the lure of money is more potent. & we may very well not be prepared to increase our offer seeing as Rodgers now knows Joe Cole is looking to return (see today's official site) and I believe he has had discussions with Aquilani as well. It may be that Rodgers considers one of those as an equal or better alternative in the same role, or that their continuing and wilful presence on the wage bill affects offers he makes to relatively unproven players.

Do we have any 100% confirmed guaranteed quotes straight from the horse's mouth that a)he dreams of playing for Utd b)he doesn't want to join us and c) doesn't want to play for us because it will ruin his chances of playing for Utd?

Surely if Utd wanted him, they would have been in for him by now? Wouldn't that make him think that they aren't interested even though he has just had his best ever season?

I think it's 'a' reason, I listed a few in a previous post, there's half a dozen or so reasons, in isolation I don't think any would be a deal breaker, but there's too many reasons that put Spurs above us as his 'preferred' destination.

Why not ambition? If he wants to play in the CL why would we fulfill that ambition better than Spurs given both clubs current position?

Spurs are just your flavour of the month. They will go into freefall next season once the exodus starts. Liverpool is a football institution with a lot more sustainability and long term ambition.

I don't think Redknapp leaving is a bad thing. As for Modric if they do sell him for silly money and reinvest the money into a striker and another midfielder its not like they will crumble.

Well the exodus is already started with their manager, no doubt Modric will follow shortly.

They sacked him.

Clutching at straws with that one.
You are on a mad cocktail of drugs, alcohol and funny glasses.

Redknapp's a crap manager anyway. Good man manager, but tactically inept. They did the right thing in getting rid of him. Spurs fans know it too.
