Hes still on loan at Swansea till the 1st of July mate.

A few people have quoted SSN stating he has passed a medical and agreed terms with Spurs.. I can't see that piece of informed journalism anywhere on SSN apart from the "winning the race" piece that has been there for days.

Is that a legimitate argument? Can't a club confirm the signing anyway and say he'll be going there on July 1st?

Not sure how these loan deals work to be honest. I dont know if you have to wait or not. Besides, we are talking a matter of days here. Perhaps Spurs or maybe ourselves are waiting till the window officially opens until we/they announce it?

That was all meant to of been done 3 days ago, Ben Smith reported it. Which goes to show how far behind SSN are.

I think we should have dropped him as soon as he hinted at another move. Its only money. That should be enough to set the alarm bells ringing.
With that sort of thinking we'd loose all the quality players we try to sign as soon as another team becomes interested

It's Skaka, not Shaka, he's an Icelandic poster who claims with certainty that the Gylf has snubbed Spurs and will be a Liverpool player come Monday morning. It's presumed he PMed a transfer mod with his source, which is what is keeping this thread open at the moment.
He should be banned if Gylfi signs for Spurs then  8)

So will end up at spurs or take the lower offer
We really shouldn't discount the Rodgers factor, I know he has only been here a while but the way he talks you can tell he is the sort of manager players will run through a brick wall for. On the one hand I don't blame the club for trying to bring sanity back to the way we do our deals after what has happened in previous windows and I can fully understand Gylfi trying to hold out for a better deal because.

It's being said regularly on their TV bulletin. Its only a small piece about Luķs André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas being named manager as early as this weekend and The Gilf agreeing terms and expecting to sign early next week.

I'd never play for mancs no matter how much they paid me. I wonder if he feels the same.
Well that's nonsense isn't it. So if Fergie rang you now and offered you a contract for £60k a week, told you you'd be a millionaire in less than 6 months, you'd turn round and say "No tar mate, I'd rather stay at Asda for minimum wage"

Yeah alright lad.

I'll be honest, the whole saga is becoming more than a little boring now.

If Sigurdsson was happy to sign for Swansea for £30k per week, but he's unwilling to sign for us for £45k per week then frankly i'd be asking questions as to whether he's the kind of player we want or need. If his head is likely to be turned every time his agent flutters a potential payrise in front of him then perhaps not.

Luis Suarez signed on relatively modest wages, but undoubtedly with the acknowledgement that if he performed well then it would be reviewed. Surely that should be standard practise, especially for a young player who represents largely potential at this point.

From Sigurdsson's perspective I can understand him wanting to consider all of the offers that have been made, he's not a Liverpool fan after all, but from our perspective, again, i'm not convinced we should be persuing a player who's not certain they want to come here quite so readily.

The further point to all of this as well, is that if he does ultimately sign then he'll find himself with a bit of a battle on his hands to turn around the opinions that some now have of him.

For the right price he looked a low risk, efficient bit of business. For £70k per week that's arguably no longer the case. If it's true (as reported by Ben Smith) that we've essentially laid down our offer and said "take it or leave it" then I think that's absolutely right and if Tottenham think he's worth considerably more than that then good luck to them, and him.

Oddly enough i would. I would also take the time to insult him no end. Some things are more important than money and I am currently not on minimum wage but earn a reasonable salary so your analogy is as daft as my post which was lighthearted.

I have turned down many jobs which would give me 20-30% pay increase to stay at my little local practice. If money drives you then fine. It does not drive me.

I take my love of LFC very seriously and no money would sway it.

There's been total silence on Gylfi here in the Icelandic media for a couple of days now. They'd probably know if he was having a medical or anything close to that.

Totally resigned that he's gonna join Spurs. My two brothers and my dad are all Spurs fans, and they actually really don't seem to give much of a shit. They're much more interested in the whole Vertonghen thing, which pisses me off since I was actually pretty psyched about Gylfi. Hopefully the "5-6 other targets" we have are as exciting as him.

You see, I don't understand why people were 'psyched' about him, or found him so exciting. He is promising and a good acquisition at the right price, but nothing more than that, imo. (But then, I'm against the run of play on Ramirez as well, because I think he offers the deft quality we need.)

Spurs fans would care a lot more about Sigurdsson if Van der Vaart had already been sold. When he strolls off to Schalke at the end of the window, they'll either be thanking their lucky stars they stole Sig from under our noses, or they'll be cursing themselves for missing out.

£60k a week and you'd get paid a fortune to bring them down from the inside.  Bonzer!

In fact, just a word in a few ears...

"Ryan's been a bit close with your bird lately, hasn't he?"

"Why has your Nan beening popping round to do Wayne's laundry?"

"Hey Rio, is there a reason SAF is looking to transfer you to Chelsea?"

Mind you, a few laxatives pre-match in the drinks would be even quicker.

why not match the spurs offer but with incentives?  ie if you score ten goals you will get a £50k bonus per goal.

Or hold out the offer of an increase in year 2 if things go well.......
I still think it would be a bit short-sighted of Gylfi to decide based on money.  At his age the important thing is that his career develops.  The big money will come when he is over 25 if he makes the grade.

I wouldn't set such a target as achieve 10 goals. That could affect his play, whereby he chooses the wrong option in the final third as it will better his contract.

But there should be benchmarking, and performance based increases. (this may include goals & assists). Overall, he must contribute to the team improving.

Yeah, I feel that way too. He can shove it if money is more important to him than working for a manager who knows you and will get the best out of you. He could still earn £70k per week if he performs really well after the first season. And Spurs don't even have a manager

If he doesnt join us then fuck him. We're Liverpool, we're coming up the hill again and we are doing that with a manager who has managed him at two clubs, knows what he's about and gets on with. He's young, so coming to us would be a great challenege for him. But if he wants to go to Spurs then fuck him, we'll get by.

Just close the thread until there's an official announcement otherwise its going to go round and round and get even more embarassing.

I'm disliking this feller the more I hear/read about him. Not sure how much is true or not. But he sounds like a bit of a jumped up manc supporting twat to me anyway.

All the badge kissing in the world don't make up for the fact that they are, frankly, not Liverpool Football Club. It's not their fault. Its just how it is.

Hes still on loan at Swansea till the 1st of July mate.

This is the part I don`t understand. He is a Hoffenheim player, on loan at Swansea till the end of the month. Why can`t a deal be announced before his loan is up?

If Swansea had a set price clause to buy him (seen it reported both ways) then that would be valid untill the end of the load so could prevent a deal with another club being finalised till deadline has passed.
