Perhaps they have all but sewn that up and are waiting to announce that next week aswell?

Have there been any concrete links to a manager for them? I haven't noticed any, but I also don't really bother with non-LFC news. Of all organizations, Spurs would be the last one I'd see getting any kind of deal done quietly lol.

EDIT: just seen Tommy's post from the last page.

Yeah, from what I understand Boas has been in place as manager for at least a week - probably more. Expected to be announced officially on Sunday

Tommy mate, why Spurs are so obsessed with our targets?

That's slightly different, the new Ranger club will be playing in the 1st or 3rd division, I could understand every player leaving as they would have gone from playing in a title contender side, so a side playing in the lower leagues.

Not to turn this into a Rangers thread, but the players would have been sold anyway. The difference is that the new club would have received a transfer fee for them, but they decided against that to get a signing on fee for themselves.
We've dodged a bullet on this one. Similar fees, different degrees.

yeah noticed after i posted haha. think he'd be a good fit for them. maybe that's what persuaded Bale to sign a new deal and what may be persuading Gylfi.

Probably...

This is what happens when you finish 8th in the league. Smaller teams like Tottenham look a far more attractive propostion then us. :(

I think it's natural that both spurs and us would go for similar players as our squads are of similar quality and we're both shopping in the same sort of store. We both want that player to take us up to fourth consistently and so it's inevitable there will be some crossover

Meh even if we do lose him (which is obviously not done yet) I won't be too bothered. He looks a quality player but there are others out there.

I have an optimistic theory...

Gylfi was willing to sign for us for around 35-45k a week, but then Spurs came along and offered 50k+ a week. Right. The media start saying that Spurs are the new favorites for him because they offered more money, but how do they actually know that Gylfi thinks Spurs are more attractive to him? Did he actually tell them so? The media are basically just saying that Spurs are the favorites because they offered him a better deal. Now, you might be thinking that why didn't he just reject Spurs outright if he wants to come here, but I think it's only reasonable for him to try and get a better deal with us because he has sort of 'proof' that he's more valuable than what LFC have agreed to pay him.

Anyway, I think he hasn't decided yet, which is why neither club has announced anything yet...

To be fair, I don't think this puts us in a bad light at all if he joins Spurs. It's obviously a really tough decision for him, and if he had a meeting with Rodgers yesterday as reported it's possible that he still mightn't have made his mind up.

To get even close to us spurs have to offer around £15k a week more and the chance for him to join his boyhood club in the future. Anyone suggesting that we've "slipped down the pecking order" needs to look at that. If we do get him, and I hope we do, I will have a good laugh at Spurs because it just shows what a nothing club they really are.

yeah didn't his dad come out and say that earlier this week to one of the Icelandic papers, that he would make a decision by the weekend? I mean the wages and medical were presumably already done a week ago and he's been waiting of us to make a move, so the Sky thing really isn't news.

I hate reading about how tough it is for footballers because their career is short. Even though they earn £40k + a week. Thats more than most of us earn a year. If he chooses Spurs for more money then fine. If he chooses us for less then he will earn some respect from me. However he is a Manc fan so i guess signing for spurs is an easier option. I'd never play for mancs no matter how much they paid me. I wonder if he feels the same.

I think we should have dropped him as soon as he hinted at another move. Its only money. That should be enough to set the alarm bells ringing.

We were willing to pay him tens of thousands of pounds per week and millions to his former club to train him and give him an opportunity to play football on the world stage. He's a smart kid and he most certainly doesn't "fucking hate us," he's just gone where the opportunity was more tempting. Can't blame him.

If he's indeed moving to Spurs, we have no choice but to move on and find different and better players to fill that void.

It's Skaka, not Shaka, he's an Icelandic poster who claims with certainty that the Gylf has snubbed Spurs and will be a Liverpool player come Monday morning. It's presumed he PMed a transfer mod with his source, which is what is keeping this thread open at the moment.

Not sure what anybody else thinks but I think we should be looking for the next Lucas more than an attacking midfielder.  Not sure we need another attacking midfielder as we have Hendenson, Shelvey and Suso, surely we have higher priority position to buy for?

A 21 year old and two 19 year olds who haven't found their feet, comparing with a 22 year old who knows the manager and has proven he can be absolutely class in the PL, instantly improving his team. Under 10m, I'd take that 22 year old without a second thought :P

This is such crap. You'd celebrate like a fiend because regardless of the shirt you're wearing, you'd be in it to win with a group of lads who all trust you and need your trust to succeed - you go through the hard times together and you win together, and all the while the fans are cheering your name, because they don't give a shit what your allegiances were before, you're making them happy.

And the boss is sweating and working to get you to work your hardest, and the club owners are paying you a god damn fortune to do every day what millions dream they had the time to do just on the weekends... You'd certainly give a shit about your performance, and you'd celebrate, too :P

His Dad coming out and saying he'll make a decision this weekend is most probably an attempt to make us raise our wage offer. I think he's made his decision, and he wants to play for Liverpool, otherwise I feel he would've already agreed to the deal with Spurs.

I'd narrow it down to celebrating vs Arsenal, Everton, Spurs, Chelsea and City then if I had to play for United. The rest doesn't matter and I'll just refer back to the Balotelli quote :D
