Rodgers plays with 4-3-3, where else are Sigurdsson and Adam going to play other than as advanced midfielders?

Funny how people are accusing Fordy of defending Adam when it's others bringing him up and trying to bait him. He didn't even mention Adam ffs. Besides I think Adam or Gerrard would play alongside Lucas behind Gylfi, as if it matters at this point.

Forget other teams, we do what we need to do and we've got till the end of August 31st to do it. Man Utd signing Kagawa or whatever doesnt stop us taking 10s and 10s of points from the massive amount of shit teams in this league. Its up to you if you've set a date of July 15th to judge our summer business on but I find that ridiculous. Earlier the better but I'd happily take August 31st if it was all the right players.

Which massive amount of shit teams are you referring to? Swansea? Wigan? Sunderland? how many of those shit teams did we manage to beat at home? and why is it that we always seem to fail to break them down? it all comes back to the same point, we don't have the quality in the key areas that make the difference & we certainly don't have quality in depth, Mid July gives us one Month to work with the new signings, to get the bedded into the system / style of play, to form partnerships and cohesion, it's an arbitrary deadline of course and perhaps too aggressive but people need to get their heads around the fact that the teams above us will most likely sign much better players than we will (with the possible exception of Newcastle)

I can see why people think this is an over-reaction but times change, have you re-evaluated and taken stock of all of the things that we can do to gain an advantage? or are people still stuck in an old mindset i.e. this is how things were always done so it must be right?

This sounds like a load of bullshit to me. is there a reliable source? Is the Daily Express considered a source?

Yes. They're wanting to move away from the manager running everything which is why 'Arry got the bullet. They don't need a manager to recruit. Their scouts are still in place as well as Sherwood who's rumoured to be a front runner to become DoF.

Fee agreed last week, Personal terms and medical needed.

If he wants to go somewhere for money then so be it. From what I'm told though he is all set to join lfc.

I do not understand for the life of me why you are panicking when it's still June. Bizarre.

Let's follow this through:

What are our aims for next season in terms of league position? most would agree Top 4
What levers do we have to achieve the objective? off the top of my head the following, no doubt others can add more elements:

A) Signings that improve the team and address our weaknesses
B) tactics, superior teamwork, collective, mental strength, variety of different options to cause different problems, prioritising our resources to a single aim
C) Time

Everything under B) is what the manager has complete control over but you can't just throw all of that together at the last minute, you need (C)
The quality of A) is what will determine our success, if you sign average players you can mold them into something good but not something great.

Right now, we are starting in a massive deficit compared to where we want to be, so you may think I'ma fucking loon but honestly, we need to get a move on because there is alot of work for the manager to do and the teams above us have already signed/agreements in place for better players than we have so his job only becomes more difficult.

More of a Van der Vaart replacement, I think. He has a similar playing style and Van der Vaart might be leaving Spurs this summer.

I think he's better than VdV mate, links play better, and from what I've seen, and read about him he's more consistent. Better workrate too, I honestly believe Gylfi could be our best bit of business this summer should he join.

Not being funny mate but, you cant of seen Gyfli play that much because you thought he could possibly do a job as a DM if Lucas got injured before. Gylfi is more of a Van der Vaart type player then a Modric one.

I didn't say that, I merely asked if he could do a job there, Gerrard can and he's not a DM. I was thinking we could better spend our money elsewhere, we have a need for that many positional cover.
Gylfi has better workrate than VdV, is more consistent, and imo is more able to spot a pass.

I'm sure he will sign here. Just wait until July 1st. I'm more interested to see who else we have on the radar since this one has probably been done and dusted for a while.

This. I think the lack of recent information is making too many people worry about something that there probably is little to worry about. The only people who are putting out other names are sites and papers who are looking for something to garner hits or fill in extra column inches during the Euros. Most of the reliable sources have said it's pretty much a done deal. I think if anything the lack of news is a combination of people returning from holidays and a tightening up of leaks and moles around the club.

Modric doesn't really play that way for Spurs, he comes deep to take the ball off the back four and Parker, to start the attacks with a burst of pace through the middle or by playing the ball into van der Vaart, who then usually looks to bring their widemen into play. Sigurdsson is a lot more like vdV, in that he's an around the box type midfielder, that's where he does 90% of his attacking work.

What other teams have done in the transfer window in comparison to us becomes relevant on August 31st

Even then, what's the point beating yourself up over Chelsea City or Manu's signings? They have far more cash and far more pull. Our job is too get players in to improve our position and get back to challenging for CL places.

We're not going to splurge and gate crash the title challenge. We need time and that requires patience. Comparing ourselves in the transfer market to the three clubs mentioned is a pointless exercise at present

The reason I say that mate is that Modric isn't really much of a goalscorer and plays for Spurs in central midfield rather than in an advanced attacking midfield role - Sigurdsson is more like Van der Vaart in that he is known for moving into advanced positions on the pitch and is known for his long-range accurate striking and passing ability. If you're talking about the quality of Modric being better than the quality of Van der Vaart, then I'd agree, though I don't think Sigurdsson is of the ability of either of them yet - which isn't a negative considering he's only 22.
