I for one think Shelvey will be a very good centre midfielder! There is no way he should be loaned out for the season, as he has a a decent sized part to play in next season.

I agree. He should get a decent run out next season. Apart from what he can bring to the team, he will give Downing something to think about when he decides not to attack his next full back!

I think it's prety obvious to most LFC fans that based on Sterling's age he will be used in the last 15 minutes of matche with defended tiring, that's it.

On GS, am I the only person who recalls him playing on the left for reading and whipping in right footed crosses???

No your not. He and Bertrand had a great partnership down the left for a few games at Reading.
He can play there, just like he can play cm or rw. it just isnt close to being his best position. He also has played on the left or right wing for Iceland on ocasions but his lack of pace means he is not gonna be bombing down the wing past players but rather cutting inside and playing 1-2s or looking for the overlap

Why do people always compare players? Rooney had no problem settling in young, neither did Owen. But Owen had injuries throughout his career that can be attributed to the amount he played as a young player. Players are different. Chamberlain played 26 times for Arsenal last season (1,062 minutes as pointed out by BabuYagu). However, the difference between Chamberlain and Sterling is he already had a season under his belt.

Sterling had three substitute appearances. He will get more action with the first team, alongside of appearing in the Next Gen Series and playing for England a youth level. He will get plenty of game time. He's too young to be loaned out anywhere as regular first team football isn't necessary for his career at this stage.

id rather loan him to a championship/league 1 side to get a full season of football under his belt rather than just playing in reserve matches, id rather him play competitive football

He doesn't need a full season under his belt at the moment. He's 17. Sure, Chamblerlain has more experience, but we shouldn't look to use Sterling in comparison to him. Gerrard didn't make his debut until he was 18, started his first full season at 19. Same with Carragher. We don't need him to play regular first team football. Continuing to work with the first team squad, working on his technique, his ability on and off the ball with the occasional first team appearance for Liverpool is necessary for him at the moment. Then, next summer, we'll assess where he is at and look at whether a loan will benefit him, or whether he can play a bigger role in the team.

For this year, it would benefit him to remain here. It's very rare that you see 17 year olds loaned out, if they are talented enough for Championship/League One level then, they will certainly be something the club wants to keep a hold of.

Sterling is already better than Downing, he just doesn't play ahead of him due to his age and size.

Think Sterling will make a name for himself this season.

This place has completely lost it. Sterling isn't even better than 19 year old Downing yet. He's played 2 games as a sub, calm the fuck down.

He came on against Wigan and did more in 10 minutes than Downing did all game.  Sterling has been brilliant for the reserves.

The only reason he isn't playing more is due to size and age, not ability.

That's complete rubbish, Sterling hasn't even gotten a complete 90 minutes under his belt and he is already better than an England International. No doubt he will become shite soon as he has a bad game

Downing, until this season, has consistently performed,  to suggest that a 17 year old with two top flight performances under his belt is already better is fucking insane.  I think Sterling will become a top player, probably better than Downing, but as yet he's an unproven kid, whilst the other is an England international.

Haven't seen anything yet mate. You would see the weirdest stuff coming from the transfer forums all season. January and June to August, are the craziest times on RAWK.

You'll see people lose they damn minds, attention-seeking ITKs, "Footy Manager" types throwing every name under the sun into the transfer hat, people arguing to death over the simplest things, outrages statements and people putting their cocks on a block for a "hooray" an all. The great ship, RAWK, plunges the depths of lunacy during this time and emerges with the brilliant rising of the new season, shakes of all the barnacles and thankfully, we move on again.

Best to stay on the perimeter at this time of the year.

I'd rather Sterling in the team than Downing.

He is quicker, fearless, exciting, beats defenders and is a real threat.  Downing is... well we know what Downing is - a disappointment.

Anyway, this has nothing to do with Sigurdsson.

Sterling better than Downing? Nope, not even close. Not yet.

The hyperbole on here knows no bounds.

Stick Downing in the reserves and he'd run amok. Hell, Jay dropped down for a match last year and bagged a brace looking like the best player on the pitch.

So are you judging him on 30 minutes of top flight football or the reserve league ?  As has been said, Downing would rip up the reserve league, be the best player by some distance.  I stand by what I said, fucking insane.

Anyway enough, back to Sigurdsson for the third time in trying to get this back on topic.

So what is Sigurdsson's nickname? A fried and I had a penchant for sendin each other SIGS!!! everytime he netted us those sweet sweet fantasy points last season.

Yet I've heard people more familiar call him "The Gylf" and of course referring to him by his first name is always viable.

Methinks this is probably a done deal, to be announced when the window opens. Good signing I think too, 2 or 3 more young midfield/attacking players and a fit squad the team will be a world away from last season..

One utterly uneducated, but possibly interesting thing that I've taken from the handful of highlights videos on Gylfi: he seems to be quite good at handling slightly misplaced passes. I've seen several moments where a pass came in behind him, and rather than either letting it go or completely breaking his stride, he seemingly-awkwardly sweeps his foot back for the ball and manages to get it under control without losing all of his momentum. Is this an actual sign of skill? Who knows. But it looks impressive to me!
You know what, I'm writing this here now and I'm going to put it in my signature and leave it there for the next 5 years, no matter how embarrassing it might or might not turn out to be: Jordan Henderson is going to be a fantastic player.

I for one think Shelvey will be a very good centre midfielder! There is no way he should be loaned out for the season, as he has a a decent sized part to play in next season.
Agreed.  I don't think he will be loaned out next season but he is not the finished article yet so if he is, then I hope it is to another PL team.

I'm all for not hyping up young players too much but Sterling really looks like the real deal.  At worst, I think he is going to become a Theo Walcott.  As for being better than Downing, nobody knows yet.  Everyone can see the potential though and Downing is as good as he is ever going to be.  I guess the fact that one cost 20 million and the other cost us nothing also has an impact on people's views.

They have separate functions.
When we want someone they come in the window and when we don't want them they are shown the door.
