There's no way he'll be playing on the wing if we do sign him.  Doesn't have the pace that's needed for that postition and is much better suited in the middle.
He is all about drifting out wide, finding spaces. He may start in the middle, but he likes to roam.Infact I like everything about his game.Brilliant shot about him too.He wouldnt play as a winger, but his through balls would be a delight for Suarez and the other wide forward.
What is the United line-up?
Webb, Riley, Wiley, Clattenburg, Dean, Dowd, Atkinson, Friend, Mason, Halsey and Probert

Djimi Traore has won more European Cups than London :)

The positions he takes up & the way he plays reminds me a lot of Fabregas.

For £7m we'd be mad to not go for him. I'll be amazed if he's not rated double or triple that in a few years time. We need more goals in the team and that's a major part of Gylfi's game. Sign him up.

My thoughts exactly. Huw Jenkins acted in a dignified and thoroughly professional manner yesterday, I don't think it would be fair on Swansea to pursue this lad, as good as he is. Plenty of other fish in the sea and all that...

But it would be astonishing if the Sigurdsson situation wasn“t discussed during the manager and compo discussions between the clubs. They wouldn“t just have ignored the issue hoping it went away, there will be some sort of gentlemans agreement one way or the other even if it is just every man for himself.
Let's also never forget the 39!

Has this been posted yet?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/swansea-city/9302658/Swanseas-assertion-that-Iceland-midfielder-Gylfi-Sigurdsson-has-signed-for-the-club-wrong-says-Hoffenheim.html

A Swansea City statement earlier this week said the club was delighted to have agreed terms with the player and club following Sigurdsson's hugely successful loan spell last season.
It was believed the 22-year-old would be joining the Swans’ for a fee of £6.8million subject to a medical.
However, on the day that Brendan Rodgers is due to complete his move to Liverpool, the Bundesliga club has reacted angrily to the initial story coming out of south Wales, claiming that contracts have not been signed.
They told Telegraph Sport that Sigurdsson remains a Hoffenheim player and is due back in pre-season training next month.
Communications manager Holger Tromp said: “Gylfi is a player with a regular contract in Hoffenheim and we expect him to be back in training on June 18th.

Does Siguršsson have a clause in his contract or was the initial price a buyout on loan terms? I would imagine that given his play and the fact that he's probably in demand now, Hoffenheim may hold out for more. Possibly even desire to keep him.

It sounds like Swansea were eager to jump the gun on the announcement in an attempt to keep their man (Rodgers).

I think we'll be talking about a £20m + player in a few yrs so I would happily pay a few more quid to Hoffenheim now.

Glad to hear it isn't all tied up with Swansea, as earlier reported.

They can't do that. Rodgers has a 5mil get out clause and thats it. The only way I could see us agreeing to that is if we get Rodgers for free.

if we nick their players it would show Rodgers in a bad light and he seems like an honourable bloke to me!

They wouldn't legally be able to tell not to sign a player that doesn't belong to them. It would be a gentleman's agreement if anything.

Maybe, but it can't be both ways - pay the whole 5mp for Rodgers and not pursue their target.

If what Hoffenheim are saying is true - then the club or Rodgers wouldn't look bad. Sigurdsson can choose where he wants to go, what deal he accepts, etc. The same way Hoffenheim could accept a bid from us, there's no reason for them not to - they don't owe Swansea anything.

Not that I think this will happen like, seems too perfect lol.

So are we expecting the £6.8m agreed with Swansea to go up a few notches simply because it's us?  I hate transfer windows.

I like the idea of Sigurdsson. Even though he is a Manc, he has been with Rodgers at both Swansea and Reading, and may be willing to follow him to Anfield if he really rates Rodgers as a manager. Solskjaer was a die hard Liverpool fan when he was younger, and look at where he ended up playing. Stranger things have happened before.

Liverpool have in recent times signed an Icelandic manc fan. Granted he only played for the reserves but Victor Pįlsson, Gylfi“s former Iceland u21 team mate used to be a die hart manc, apparently.

Would love him to sign and doubt his move to Swansea is a go cause he seemd to be just going there for Rodger...

If he's good enough we should sign him, Gerrard / Shelvey are the only midfielders we have that look like they could trouble the 'keeper

What's all this about being a Manc fan and saying something about Liverpool? What did he say, can anyone summarize? It's not really clear on the first few pages of this thread.

What do you mean by doesnt have the pace needed? Some wingers dont need pace as they are good enough at dribbling and putting the ball on the big mans head (ala Beckham)

Rogers plays with wide forwards as opposed to wide midfielders.  You wouldn't see Beckham in one of the front 3 positions in a 433 formation because he's much more suited to playing in the middle, same as Sigurdsson.

Don't think we need a defensive midfielder every game. A Henderson/Gerrard in the middle seems good enough for some games, and there's always Spearing for the cups and such.
