Gylfi Žór Siguršsson to Liverpool (no Spurs talk)
« on: May 31, 2012, 01:22:31 AM »
Likely. And Yes, I do know he's a 'Manc'.

Update - Tony Barrett in the Times:

"One further fear for Swansea is that Rodgers could attempt to hijack their proposed signing of Gylfi Sigurdsson, who is still to complete his £6.8 million transfer from Hoffenheim. The midfielder had been keen to remain at the Liberty Stadium after a successful five-month loan spell, but his agreement to a permanent transfer was secured partly on the premise that Rodgers would continue as manager."

Not sure if it will happen. He was poised for Swansea and not Brendan Rodgers FC.

According to Aristotle(the poster on here) ;), he's said some quite insulting things about our club in the past.

I'd be surprised if Swansea didn't tell us to back off when negotiating for Rodgers.

I wouldn't be surprised either - but money talks.

He's a Manc. Hardcore one. If Ferguson makes a move he won't think twice.

On the other hand...money talks and he's a professional footballer in the end. It's a big move from Swansea to Liverpool.

wow.

I have to hand it to you. As soon as i saw your comment I thought "what a ray of sunshine". So I looked through your post history to see if you were especially grumpy today. By the time I read your last five posts I thought you were miserable. After reading a further ten I thought maybe you were depressed. After another twenty I thought you had a problem. Do you realise it's been 86 posts since you actually wrote anything positive on this site rather than moaning or whinging or complaining about something? It's got to be a record. Currently you're the most miserable poster on RAWK - and that's saying something.

What exactly are you going to do if Rodgers turns out to be a success? You never know - with the right handling, Sigurosson might be the new Kenny!

this united link is really disheartening.

his record at reading, hofenheim and swansea is nothing short of remarkable given his young age and the fact hes replicated his exceptional technical ability and set piece ability (which we sorely lack) everywhere hes went!

has he got a place in our side? given his age, yes! the fact rodgers has already managed him and got the best out of him has to count for something too. heir to gerrard? that elusive AMF? or at worse, a solid squad player who can score the odd wonder goal when called into the side to grab 3 points (aka Kranjcar for spurs last season). for 7M, its a bargain to be quite honest. you'll sell him on for that in 3-4 seasons easily.

will rodgers go for him? i dont think he will hijack the deal, i think siggurdsson himself will see swansea without rodgers as a bad and potentially career threatening move were they to get relegated.

Honestly a lot of people won't want to hear this.

But he's very much like Gerrard when Gerrard was 22.  Would rather him than Spearing, Hendo or Adam in our midfield.

Spot on!

Henderson, Siggurdsson, Shelvey for the future would be fantastic. They won't win us a title next season but they sure as hell increase our chances for the seasons after!

Reckon he would be mad not to come to Liverpool. Would really be a good option that we have missed when Gerrard has been out. Lets hope Rogers can bring him in.

Yeah, good point.  Honestly can't see us having much/any other competition for him (besides Swansea, obviously) if we do decide to try to hijack the deal.  But like a few others have said, I'm not sure it's what we need, even at a good price.  I'd rather put the funds towards cover for Lucas and wingers, that's what we need.

If we move for Belhanda, I think Madrid, City or Barca will too. To snap him up, we should have moved last season. However we've waited and now hes had a spectacular season. It will be really hard to get him given the spotlight on him. I'd be made up if we did get him.

United won't go in for Gylfi because their whole budget will be dedicated to immediate purchases to fight for the title THIS season.  by 'united link' i meant his "like for united".

Different players no? Belhanda plays out wide, much more flair, can play CM too..Sigurdsson on the other hand is a proper CAM/2nd striker who relies more on movement.Reminds me of a young Steven Gerrard,a little further up the field.

He said he'd prefer to go work on his fathers fishing boat than play for Liverpool. About as likely as Roy Keane being our DoF
Again, how many times does a chance like this arise?Ferdinand,Solksjaer all Liverpool fans, they did go there and succeeded. His role model of a manager is making the switch.I dont see how we cannot get him if we try/if the deal has broken down.
