Suarez gets it spot on
« on: May 25, 2012, 03:25:10 PM »
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/may/25/luis-suarez-liverpool-patrice-evra?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+theguardian%2Ffootball%2Frss+%28Football%29

Luis Suárez has reopened the controversy surrounding his race row with Patrice Evra by revealing his conscience is "completely calm" over events at Anfield on 15 October last year and accusing the Football Association of wanting "to get rid of a Liverpool player".

The Uruguay forward served an eight-match suspension this year after being found guilty of racially abusing the Manchester United defender by an independent panel appointed by the FA. Suárez and Liverpool did not appeal against the decision, despite protestations from the club over the process that led to him being charged.

Suárez caused further problems for Liverpool and the then manager Kenny Dalglish when he refused to shake Evra's hand in the return league fixture at Old Trafford in February. That prompted a series of apologies from Liverpool, Suárez and Dalglish, but the striker has never apologised to Evra personally for what occurred at Anfield in October and, in an interview with Russia Today, claims he has no cause to.

"The suspension, I suppose, you could call strange and unbelievable," said Suárez. "Without a single shred of proof, they suspended me. I accepted it without saying anything obviously because they could have made [the suspension] longer and it would have just made the whole thing continue, but my conscience is completely calm, and so is that of the club and my family.

"There was not a single convincing proof that I had done any of the things they accused me of doing. I am very calm about all of it. I have played all my childhood and everyone knows that in Uruguay there is a huge black population. I had team-mates and friends of both colours all the time in the national team, in Liverpool, in Holland, where the majority [of players] are from Surinam, and I never had any problem with them.

"Holland is one of the countries in the world where there is the highest number of black players and at no point was there an issue. Well, these are the things about football. It seems to me that they had to get rid of a Liverpool player and, well, they definitely were gratified by all of this."

Liverpool's owner, Fenway Sports Group, sacked the long-serving head of communications Ian Cotton this month after a season that attracted fierce criticism of the club's handling of the Suárez affair. The striker, however, claims his wife bore the brunt of the fallout. "She has suffered more than anyone during this," he said, and is unconcerned about the damage to his reputation or the reaction of opposition crowds.

He added: "What the English press has said about me does not interest me. What interests me is what they say about me in Uruguay and in Liverpool, and they have always been very supportive.

"After the suspension was confirmed, I was told that the fans would taunt me, they would whistle me, insult me and shout at me, but to be honest it is not something I was worried about or paid attention to. Everyone whistled me in all of the stadiums I played in all the time anyway, even before the allegation of racism. It was just the same. I tried to pay it as little attention as possible to focus on what I like to do, which is to play."

Football has reached the ninth gate of farce and pathetic, unbelievable trite nonsense. It's supposed to be a game and it's turned into pantomime, hype, quilts and bellends.

It's a pity, or maybe on second thought, no it's not, that the English media will still deny this.

I mean, during the debacle was there any media outlet that mentioned the fact that there was not one convincing shred of evidence ? No. How this was allowed to happen shows the FA for the failure that it is.

haha, HE reopened?... yes, sure.

He added: "What the English press has said about me does not interest me. What interests me is what they say about me in Uruguay and in Liverpool, and they have always been very supportive.

Good lad.
He's got a tattoo on his wrist that says "I hate blackie blackie blackie blacks, and I fucking love handballing it into the opponent's goal and away from my own goal, and biting people, and kicking young kids in the bollocks when they ask for autographs. And diving. I fucking love that."

glad that dalglish is not going to get dragged into this time, although who knows he might be allowed to speak his mind too now he's unaffiliated with the club

like it or not, people saying he's 'reopened' this, it was never shut, the FA have permanent put a taint on his career, any time he does anything there'll be reference to it. any mention of our season there's been reference to it. people calling dalglish a racist too. it's a mess and probably always will be.
I think I may be turning gay. That back heel & through ball to Enrique made me jizz like Ive never jizzed before. My fiancee has got some serious work to do if she wants to get me as excited as I do about Coutinho.

Hi guys. Long time lurker, first time poster.

When I read that article, my heart sank. Whatever the rights and wrongs of the situation, it was an immensely damaging incident for Liverpool FC, and I would have thought that the most important thing was to put it in the past, and move on as quickly as possible. yesterday's headlines being tomorrow's chip wrappings, etc. As far as I know, this is official club policy. Whatever you think about what happened, the FA are going to look as those quotes as an accusation of bias, and they are almost certainly going to charge him with bringing the game into disrepute. I'm afraid that the next thing that we will hear from him will be that he has been hounded out of english football, and he'll be off to another club.

Even if that isn't his intent, bringing this up now is just bad for the club, and gives more fuel to what was a very bad story. He is a grown man, and receives a large salary from liverpool, who have stood by him through thick and thin. He owes the club a certain responsibility, and He is putting his own interests ahead of the club. As fans, I'm not sure that we should be so keen to applaud this. This interview is not a good thing. only bad things can come of it.

1) Nothing he has said brings the game into disrepute
2) If asked the question better to address it than be seen to evade it. I'm sure he did not ring Russia Today to offer his thoughts

He answered it directly without any controversial remarks that I can see.

Fair dues to him.

I'm hoping the FA try and take him to court. In a court of law if he sues them they'd get their arses handed to them.

Never going to happen, last thing the FA are going to subject themselves to is the law.

Mate he's been accused and found guilty of racism, without any proof. Stains on his character that could stay with him for life. Why should he stay silent if he knows he's innocent? Would you? I know i wouldn't.

don't agree on a number of levels but most of all what happened to suarez happened to us all. Long after suarez goes we will be remembered as a racist club without people knowing why. Never admit to doing something you didn't do and certainly never say sorry for it.

The PFA owed Suarez impartial support and the FA owed him a fair hearing, neither happened so he's more than entitled to speak freely IMHO.  He's been badly let down by the powers that be in this country for the sake of political (football politics that is) expediency to score points against Blatter.

At the time i wanted it to go quiet and to go away, that was for one reason and one reason only. It was being used as a big fucking stick to beat a man i love. With Kenny Gone, and nobody in place to take the flak for it, Suarez is perfectly entitled to comment on it as much as he likes. Any way he is merely stating facts as i see it.

Why bring this up again? Seriously what is the point?

To clear his name? He was found guilty of using racial language, we don't agree with it but that's how it is. Liverpool's name has been taken through the mud for the last year, all the way around the world, do we really want it to continue? Our reputation is more important than Suarez and I'm afraid this is doing more damage to the club than he is worth to us.
We've dodged a bullet on this one. Similar fees, different degrees.
