This Jenkins guy is incredible. He's using ITK information to troll people. It's evolution, happening right in front of us.

Rafa didn't sign Aguero because he thought that Aguero couldn't cut it in this league. He also thought that Barry could adequately replace Alonso. Every manager makes certain baffling claims at some point in his career. If you're going to be holding that as a barometer of their talent, then there is probably no manager out there who is good enough to manage us.
Any quote to back up on your Rafa - Aguero comment? I'm pretty certain we didn't sign Aguero as we had no transfer budget under G+H.

I've resigned myself to the prospect that this is probably going to be a disaster anyway and Hodgson 2 so I'm just looking forward to this thing being over.  I hope they make a decision on Friday.  They have a proven manager with a track record of spending money extremely wisely just sitting around not even being interviewed and we are throwing 'a Hail Mary' (to use an American analogy) and hoping that whatever relegation fodder manager we pick comes down with the ball.  They've made us a laughing stock with this.

According to Ben Smith of the BBC he's only a frontrunner/contender, so was Martinez and Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas last week. I seriously doubt we're close to appointing a new manager. Only FSG know that answer, not journos or "ITK"s.

Swansea were hardly relegation fodder. Finished only 5 points behind us. And also took 4 points off of us.

Any quote to back up on your Rafa - Aguero comment? I'm pretty certain we didn't sign Aguero as we had no transfer budget under G+H.

This was in 2008/09 I think.

Quote
Benitez said: "Two years ago the agents were talking with us about players and he was one of those but he was too young and [Atletico] paid big money for him, around 18 million euros for a player who was a risk.

"In the Premier League it's different and sometimes players will need more time here to improve."

Benitez did have a point if you look at it back then, even if its been proved false through hindsight. Similarly,  Rodgers or Capello may have some sound justification to provide for their claims about Bale and Rooney. My point is that, every manager will make some claim or the other like this throughout his career. If we're going to write them all off based on that, we may as well let Carragher and his wife take over as the DoF and manager of the club.

No, he wanted Barry and Alonso.

True, he did want Barry and Alonso. But when it came down to choosing just one amongst the two at the end, he made the call to move for Barry and hawk Xabi around Europe like a second-hand car.

Anyway don't want this to derail this thread away from Rodgers, who I believe is a fine managerial talent. I was just replying to Macphisto's comment about Rodgers based on a single throwaway comment about Rooney that he made as part of some lame PR exercise.

You know manager from 11th placed team moves to 8th placed team is hardly cause for a meltdown. Especially backed by Van Gaal as Sporting Director. And when it comes to becoming a laughing stock, I will admit that our owners havent exactly cast themselves in the best light (but the owners of football clubs rarely do.) What I find though, is that we are increasingly being seen by many as a laughing stock because our supporters are becoming viewed as perennial whingers and spoilt brats with an overinflated sense of entitlement.

all of these future LFC manager malarkey should make excellent viewing on the LFC series that Fox is currently filming.  I wonder if they are not the one sending fake ITKs out in order to build the suspense in their series?

I get that, but I hate it when "we eat our own". The reality is that the realistic choices we have as our incoming manager are hardly inspiring and frankly a cause for concern moving forward. Many have voiced reasoned and valid questions regarding the perception of this club, of the potential to sign players, the likelihood to keep the quality players etc etc etc. And they have the right to do so.  I think up until the new manager is appointed anyone is entitled to whine and vent concerns however ridiculous or rational they may or may not be. Once the manager is appointed then it's time to shut up and support. Time will only tell whether the owners and new manager get it right.

to be honest, don't know if it's our PR nowadays.
No one knows if Rodgers and Martinez would come good or not. (let's pray for that. ;>)
However, since last week, our expectation has been getting lower and lower.
My first reaction of Martinez == wow, really?!?! What the heck!
Then, ATM, I seem fine with him as time drag on...
News for Rodgers, too... what a nice transfer window. It has been totally shadow by manager picking

People will jump on us whenever we make a mistake. We had it against Manchester United. Angel Rangel had the ball at his feet and the commentary after the game is that he’s got to kick it into row Z.

"He had time on the ball, why would he smash it up the pitch? He just made a mistake. We need to give our players confidence in their ability. To play this way you can have no fear. The players respect that if there are any goals conceded through playing football I take the blame.

Rafa said he wanted Barry because he would have got 3 players for the price of one, he was not looking to replace Alonso with Barry.

And just to add to that, Aguero was a youngster and with any youngster, and specifically someone like Aguero, who would be coming from Argentina, it's a risk and they need time to develop, something we couldn't afford to do at the time when that fee could be spent elsewhere, hence Rafa decided against that move. Completely understandable.
"My coach told me to warm up just before the break. He told me I was going to take care of Kaka. I didn't think it was possible to turn things around but in the dressing room at halftime Rafa Benitez was calm - "We are Liverpool FC, we have so many fans, we are not going to be slaughtered. If we can score a goal quickly we push on from there.""

How does that quote mean he thought Aguero wouldn't cut it in the PL? What Rafa is saying that he didn't have a spare 18m lying around he could spend on some kid that might need a lot of time to adapt, when he had to use that money to improve the squad...

Rodgers' odds even shorter this morning (most of the bookies stop displaying odds on here http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/liverpool-specials/next-permanent-manager overnight but will come back soon; it doesn't mean betting has been suspended just because they are not currently shown - although I think Coral have suspended theirs). Best odds are 1/4.

But the reason I'm posting is that it's funny that Rodgers is as short as 7/4 to be Tottenham's next manager! http://www.oddschecker.com/football/football-specials/tottenham-specials/next-permanent-manager
