Today is a good day. Liverpool have unveiled an absolute diamond of an appointment. For the first time since the genius of Benitez was forced form the club by the tyranny of Hicks and Gillett Liverpool have someone in place to return the club to glory. It is the first time in well over two decades they have the proper owners and the proper manager working in tandem.

Rodgers has shown him to be a very astute man. The way he handled Liverpool's advances showed a man who knows he is a special manager and a man clear in his own mind about how he should run the club. Instead of whoring himself to the media he made Liverpool work to secure him. And he did it on his terms. The way he wouldn't go near the Chelsea job shows a man who knew his time would come. Rodgers is an intelligent man who has a modern knowledge and schooling few can match. His teams play great football. He uses his spare time to go and study other teams. A fluent Spanish speaker he spent recent summers furthering his knowledge and in particular has strong links with Barcelona. People in the know and people who's opinion should be respected all admire Rodgers.

Rodgers will be given time for his ideas and philosophies to take hold. This isn't Roy Hodgson. This is a man who plays football properly. Hodgson was foisted unto the club by a dysfunctional and toxic regime. Rodgers was the considered choice of a progressive regime that took advice from the right people. Liverpool fans will support him. For all the mud slung at how they treated Hodgson Liverpool fans were remarkably tolerant and courteous to Hodgson. He never received personal abuse at games and the first dissent voiced at his management came 6 months into the job with the team in a relegation battle and the dissent came in the form of chanting someone else's name.

Rodgers will not tolerate fools. Catching the Manchester City juggernaut is an unrealistic target in the next few years. But every other team that finished above Liverpool this year have inherent problems. Chelsea don't have a manager and have an ageing clique in their squad that rule the roost in the dressing room. Manchester United are a spent force as their trophyless season began to reveal. They are in financial trouble and giving Scholes a new contract as Pogba goes to Juventus shows Ferguson has no regard for the club beyond his forthcoming exit. Arsenal have a board who are pocketing serious money instead of investing and a manager who deflects the heat away from that. Not to mention the likely departure of Van Persie. Spurs have a manager who would have gladly walked out in the club this summer and the likely departures of Bale and Modric to contend with after a dire 2nd half to the season. Newcastle will have the vultures circling around their players this summer and will find it hard to repeat this year's success with the surprise factor. Everton don't even merit a comment.

Dalglish had to go and Liverpool had to move on. Today they have done that and they have laid the foundations for significant progress.

Because?

Because yet again, as with every major story concerning our club the story is available everywhere but the official website, Swansea have released a statement.....it's hardly idle gossip is it?

It's not 100% official at our end yet. Do you expect the club to announce a new manager that we haven't officially got yet. The T's and C's need to be dotted and signed before its official

The thing that made me like Rodgers the most is his thirst to keep on learning. Currently learning Italian, speaks Spanish and is spending the Euros with Spain.

Until its official what do you want them to do?

Would there really be any harm in releasing a statement saying something along the lines of

'As is being widely reported the club have met with Brendan this afternoon & should negotiations go well with Swansea we fully expect to name Brendan our new manager within the next 48 hours. We stress that currently Brendan is still under contract with Swansea but we thank them & him for their professional approach to proceedings thus far'

That's already known. Until the negotiations are over why thank them until then? No need to complain for no reason. Pointless releasing a statement based on what you've mentioned.

the promising young manager whose teams good football? :)
Produce one compelling reason he should be chosen ahead of Rafa, Van Gaal, Capello or Villas-Boas.
And if the reports are true that the DoF has been abandoned or at least watered down then his appointment makes even less sense.

Because just about the only reason I've seen used to justify him is that he can fit into the owners new system.

Lets hope we have a proper DoF then.

The Liverpool way went out the window a long time ago as was demonstrated by our twitter account asking supporters who they'd most like to see as manager in the aftermath of Kenny's sacking.

I'm not overly arsed about it really it just seems a bit pointless keeping this bizarre silence at the same time as doing shit like having Gerrard endorsing Martinez on there.

Not the man I wanted (Rafa notwithstanding). I prefered Martinez out of the pair, but it is important to say that these were preferences. Favouring one man over another does not mean I think Rodgers is shite.

In truth I'm not sold, but not in a hate the guy way and not in a waiting for him to fail way. I'm not sold because aside from one season at Swansea, I have no real idea of what to expect from the guy.
In 2004 I had no idea of what to expect from Benitez, but I was content to see what he could do and be a bit patient. I decided to judge him on his actions and not on what a fan might tell me or an article might say, because the truth is that whoever comes into any job, no matter how good (or poor) on paper, you just never know how it is going to work out.

So I am more than content to give Rodgers the same accord. In fact it kind of feels like it did back in 2004. Like we're stepping into a void which could contain something brand new. Not bootroom handing to bootroom, or Roy handing on to Houllier, but a total change.
I feel a tinge of optimism, but am as always tempered by pragmatism.

Whatever happens, it will be an interesting ride.

That was apparently done as a bit of sarcasm though. The silence from FSG over the managers job has been deafening. I for one am pleased FSG conduct there business in silence. Credit to them for that at the very least

The cat's already well & truly out of the bag, by saying nothing it's not like we're keeping it under wraps.
Just leave them be, please. They are doing this the right way. As Kenny has said time-and-again- the club will say something when it has something to say.
The media are baying for an announcement. Let them sweat more. Fuck 'em.

We'll announce it when we feel we have to. They won't do anything without a reason, so let them them do what they have to in the meantime- behind closed doors.

Huh?
I should think the only important question is 'How respected is he at LFC?'

Welcome aboard Brendan, I will support you and hope that FSG deliver on what they promised. Welcome to the best club in the world, which use to have the best fans in the world, but the jury is out on that at the moment!!
