1. Rafa 2. Villas Boas 3. Rodgers, for me. I can't see anyone else doing much good. And Rodgers is only there because 3 sounds better :)

Because you seem to think we can throw 30m and 250k/week at Hazard and he'll come join us if Fabio Capello is our manager.  You don't think in a realistic frame.  You want "the success we deserve" but you want to throw money around all over europe.  At present time, we are a midtable club.  The only way to get out of the middle of the pack is you build from the ground up unless you're owned by a Sheikh.

No you misread what I said.

Capello would have the pull to demand a bigger budget. It would be down to the owners then to allow the negotiations fall through.

I'd accept another shit season if it meant we were building something.

Fans will turn on Martinez if we are sitting in 10th by November and don't pretend they wont.

Capello or another big name would be given the time needed to build.

And you cant discredit the fact players would rather play for a top european coach rather than a nobody.

I apologize for misreading.  I think the idea with the DoF is that the budget doesn't fluctuate based on the manager.  There are set targets in mind that fit the style and personality of the club.  I can be pretty certain that if Capello interviewed for the job and said I need 100 million, FSG would tell him thanks for your time.   If the rumours are true about Van Gaal coming in as Sporting Director then it's up to him to sell players on the manager (who he presumably backs) and the project going on.

For what it's worth, I don't think Capello would be interested in building a dynasty.  Also, Martinez wouldn't be my first choice - I would prefer Rodgers.  However, Martinez is a very intelligent manager and given the fact that most people on here can't name 10 players for Wigan - I think he's done a fair enough job keeping them in the league given the size/stature/revenue of that club.

Tony Pulis has done a marvellous job at Stoke by buying everyone over a certain height and playing hoofball, that's the easy way to stay in the first division.  Martinez made a commitment to playing football and that's a decision that I respect.

I know it's a different team and with arguably lower level players than at LFC - but our potential new manager has presided over these defeats.

Chelsea   8 - 0   Wigan (May 2010)

Tottenham   9 - 1   Wigan (November 2009)

And three 5 - 0 defeats in five games against Man Utd.

It has nothing to do with LFC, but lets just say as past records go it doesn't exactly compare with other managers who have perhaps won a league or european trophy in the last 2 or 3 years. It's a bit of a red herring yes, but it doesn't inspire confidence or admiration in the man.

I think the issue is that if there ARE better candidates out there then why is Martinez even in the running?  What does he have that makes FSG think he's the one?  As I've said before this is a seriously high risk strategy for owners who dealt with Hodgson and Dalglish is such a brutal fashion.  Granted they're businessmen, but they didn't strike me as the type to go into these sort of high stakes gambling.

Last season they stated their objective was top four, which we failed to achieve.  So either they believe Martinez can lead a Shankly-esque revival in the club's fortunes or their accepting they were hopelessly optimistic last season and are going down a slower, more progressive route.  But if that's the case why bother sacking Kenny in the first place?  I can only assume they want to do this their own way but if it fails they wont be able to blame the manager this time.

Don't really need another thread discussing the pros and cons of Martinez. Will say again, the fact that we got rid of KD are one season the. His replacement has to be a step up. Nothing against the guy, but he's been battling relegation for 2 seasons in a row now and that doesn't fit well with most of the fans especially when there are better options available.

Not sure what to believe that's been reported in the media, but all the candidates seem to be falling like flies. If that is the case,  then the it makes me feel very nervous about the FSG vision. Again all this baseless facts, so will wait to see.

If Rafa isn't appointed then I will be extremely disappointed.

I think the comments made by Gerrard about Roy Hodgson need to be seriously took on board by FSG

“I just thought he was very unlucky because of the timing,” he said. “To go to a club when a lot of the supporters wanted a different man in, you’re off on the wrong foot from day one.

“You have a couple of bad results and things turn against you."

Martinez won't play three at the back if he's our coach. He did that at Wigan because all teams have a go at them, and the extra CB is vital. But with Liverpool, most teams sit back against us, and the third CB would be wasted. We'd basically be a player down. He may use it against the top teams, but not the vast majority of the sides.

And now the Echo reports Maggot Whelan is setting a deadline for us.... nice of him.

"Roberto will be in Barbados until next Tuesday, and I will then set a seven-day deadline by which time I will expect a decision,"

http://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/liverpool-fc/liverpool-fc-news/2012/05/24/wigan-chairman-dave-whelan-to-set-roberto-martinez-deadline-over-liverpool-fc-job-100252-31038970/#ixzz1voAd0hOI

BBC reported that as Whelan giving Martinez the ultimatum. He has far too much to say about other clubs. The Grauniad actually called him 'Big Dave' earlier! Anyway they are now quoting him as saying that the manager will not have any say in which players come to the club so he has warned Martinez off because he likes total control and won't get it.

Think those of you who are unhappy about nothing coming from the owners need to contact Big Dave Whelan for info about our club.

Not necessarily mate.

The third defender at the back is used as an auxiliary midfielder against defensive tactics and joins the attack more often than not. This third defenders role changes as per the opposition. Thats why you need a proper footballer playing as one of the three , Daniel Agger in our case.  And 3 at the back also allows our fullbacks to attack with gay abandon and generally stay much higher up the pitch than they usually do.

Napoli used 3 at the back and dominated teams as well as played counter attacking football when the situation demanded.

You will never walk alone , Shanklyboy. RIP.

Reports Roberto Martinez is in Miami - I am lead to believe it's for talks with Randy Learner over a move to Aston Villa NOT Liverpool FC

Make of it what you want.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benํtez admitted after the match that the manner of his side's victory had stunned him and he stated: "My problem is that I don't have words to express the things that I feel at this moment"

Reports Roberto Martinez is in Miami - I am lead to believe it's for talks with Randy Learner over a move to Aston Villa NOT Liverpool FC

Napoli used 3 at the back and dominated teams as well as played counter attacking football when the situation demanded.

not sure parents should be letting kids watch our matches if this happens

I think the issue is that if there ARE better candidates out there then why is Martinez even in the running?

Was just about to write that...

If there are better attainable candidates, it's our owners under delivering. Removing a capable man in Kenny for some no mark who's won nothing in his life (ok that's a little harsh perhaps, but factually accurate)

If they had Guardiola lined up you'd forgive them, but fucking Martinez? how is that a step forward... he'd have to take a hop, skip and jump in what he's demonstrated as a young manager to do what the owners expect.
