By starting at a team better than Wigan of which there are plenty in the league, doing something there and moving up to the the top table and that is where I still see us, in name at least.

They want CL football. Well, the best way to go about that is by having the best people on board, not by gambling on a releagtion team manager.

Would Spurs, Arsenal, Man City, Man Utd or Chelsea entertain him as manager.? No and neither should we.

Juventus appointed Conte. Porto appointed Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas.  Doesn't always work that way.
Rafa Benitez forever.

That Arsene Wenger fella was dead famous when he became Arsenal manager. Oh wait...

Yeh, but he did win the French League before heading to Japan and then England.

Listen, I've not said I'm jumping for joy at this announcement and there's other candidates who I hope the club consider but those saying 'fuck off' and the like is just reactionary. I just hpe the club get this appointment (whoever it is) right, otherwise I fear we'll be fucked for a long time.

The problem is we get this wrong it's going to fuck us over again. We need the correct appointment, not someone who is going to step into a job as their "big first club" job. We need someone who has been there before, who has handled top flight players, who can attract players, who can go out and get the necessary people we need to get back into a top 4 position. While Martinez might play nice football, do we really want to see if he is ready to handle a big club when we are trying to get back to being a top 4 club, and then what if he fails? We are fucked royally.

If FSG want to make their intent known go get a world class manager, do anything possible to get him, make a statement, this statement says "we have very little idea what we are doing and hopefully we don't fuck it up too badly"

Wigan won 4 of their first 29 games....

On the flip side Rikjaard got relegated before he joined Barca , just imagine the reaction on here if he came to us instead.

Has any manager ever been sacked before playing a competitive game?

How many league games did Kenny win since January? Not slating him, just saying stats can be misleading. Consider the resources Martinez worked with.

If you look at their place wage league table based on the 2010/11 accounts, they finished 1(2) place above what their wage bill would indicate.

(If Birmingham's wages were higher)

Martinez, by the way, has done well at Wigan avoiding relegation. Wigan had the smallest revenue last year, yet came 16th. Without a significant spend, they improved this season to go 15th and I think they still have got the smallest revenue. So that's five places better off than their income suggests.

Using the wrong metrics for LFC.

We should be looking at, how many competitions won, record of signings, competing against financial powerhouses.

Martinez is going to be a really good manager in the future. Not now though, not the right time or place.

My worst frears are coming to light! FSG have given up, they feared possible relegation under Kenny at some point in the future and are now looking for a safe pair of hands to keep us bouncing around mid table season after season so they can use the club as their own little piggy bank! once the cash they paid for the club has been recouped over the next ten years we will be flogged off on the cheap to the next cowboys a' la Hicks & Gillette!

If this happens all we will have left is our history. A sad day a VERY sad day indeed!  :'(

Either that or FSG have been taking advice from sir Fungus Features!!
I wish united would hurry up and win more European cups than us. Perhaps then the F.A will stop all their shit decisions against us to keep us out of the top four!!

Tactically better than Kenny. Actually manages his team. Reminds me of Rafa. Kenny is too involved in supporting Liverpool. It's a great thing, but whenever we'd score he'd practically be in with the fans instead of drilling them and organising them on what to do next.

My only worry is his lack of experience. It's not the big name we hoped for but he's the best out of the smaller prospects... Lambert et al.

Saying that, Arsenal got Wenger from a Japanese team and that turned out pretty well

Yeah wengers great? He's record really stands up over the last 7 years.

not really

martinez is a young manager/coach that likes to play passing football, tries it with wigan with what are nothing but average players, even while they struggle against relegation every season he does not change his style.

Give you in interesting little thing I've just got off WhoScored. Percentage of passes that are 'short' (therefore presumably the requirement for passing football): Wigan 81% Liverpool 82%. That calculation negates any potential discrepancies that the differing abilities of players might present, as it only takes into account the tactical intentions of their side. Yeah, it's only one stat but it tells the story that getting rid of Kenny and replacing him with Martinez is not a guaranteed (or even likely) progression. Interestingly, Rafa's 'nadir' at Liverpool, exactly the same - 81%

Have a word, stop being such a complete fucking knob. Shows how great of a supporter you are.

Honest Question, why not Martinez?

Apparently because he's not Benitez and he's such a downgrade to Dalglish, how? I have no idea (apart from experience), people really need to calm down, take the shades off and have a look at the possibilities with him as our next potential manager.

We need someone who's going to come in, implement tactics and a style of play (Regardless of who we play against.) and stick to it.

So many games last season we "shook up" the side to suit the team we were playing against, rather than play OUR way and let them fucking worry about it. It didn't smell of confidence one bit what so ever, who knows if Martinez or Rodgers are the ones who can implement that?

We just have to see the structure that's put in place from the top down before going off on one about any single specific role being filled. As stated what if we get in a top notch DoF who can handle and mould the squad with a manager such as Martinez in the style and way we play, nobody really has any clue what the man is like or capable of with the right backing.

If and its a big IF they do appoint Martinez surely to God they are goin to have to realise that they are goin to have to give him time to get things right, to build slowy and work our way up the table year by year, because if they honestly expect him to get us into the CL places in his first season then they really are a bunch of idiots who have been very poorly advised.

IF he comes in he starts with a blank page onto which he can write a new chapter in the clubs history. Let's hope it's a glorious one.

Never a truer word, brother. IF it's Roberto, we need to see who else is brought in as DoF, and look at the coaching set up that is provided with and for him.

If he gets the job after all the wind and piss been spouted as regards to the calibre of our next manager by the club honestly. as I live and breathe, that's me done with football.
