Wouldn't mind him at all to be honest.

Massive overreaction on here.

he's a good coach but the options available at this time are staggering.

Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas,emery,laudrup and rafa.3 of them have pedigree far higher than martinez.

Disgrace the way some of you are acting and I genuinely hope the people posting shite about Martinez are not match going fans. No decent fan wanted Dalglish sacked but what chance has his replacement got if we are always so fucking negative? If he gets the job we should look at the positives such as the way he encourages his sides to play football rather than threatening to abandon the club.

This sounds like the kinda bull that was peddled when Roy was being talked to.

Wigan Athletic won 4 of their first 29 games. FOUR.

And Liverpool Football Club have sacked Kenny Dalglish to appoint the manager who managed them during that period.

Jesus.

My intial reaction to this is FFS, what the fuck is going on, but if he is appointed im right behind the man, he does have potential I suppose.
And like ive said, he seems like a really decent fella.

Pretty sure he's very good friends with Rafa isnt he ?

The reason Kenny was sacked was because we finished mid table.

If Martinez can keep Wigan up 3 years in a row. They, as a club, wouldn't look out of place in League 1 and he has virtually spent nothing. Not bad.

I would rather go for Martinez than a bigger name, remember Guardiola went from Barca B to the hot seat,Klopp went to Dortmund from Mainz at the time Dortmund fans didnt rate the appointment and hes won two titles in a row, this could be a good appointment if it happens in my opinion.

If this is what they come up with, when the likes of Rafa, Capello and Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas are available then it's the final fucking straw.

That's what worries me. There's far, far better candidates out there who are unemployed. Rafa would jump at the chance and Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas's agent has said he'd be interested. I just pray to god that we're interviewing these types as well.

I go to every match home + away and I don't want Martinez at all, we all tried to look at the positives when Hodgson was appointed and look how that one turned out? It's a negative attitude from the owners getting in the manager of Wigan and nobody is happy at all.

The reactionary stuff in here is just awful.  Comparing Martinez to Hodgson is absurd.

OK then...lets look at the bigger picture. Martinez is accustomed to fighting relegation battles or at best being in the lower half of the table. If he comes here, he will be expected by the owners (who have set a precident by sacking King Kenny after 1 full season) to get us into the Champions League places.  He would be a choice very few of us approve of, and will be under massive pressure from the off. I don't think he is capable of hacking it, simple as.

We've had one flavour of the month small club manager who had achieved fuck all prior to coming here already...and look how that panned out.

So much knee jerking in here right now.

Martinez as manager + Benitez as DOF, there's an idea, no? ;p
bullshit lad, rafa is no director of football he is the manager,  speaking of DoF do we need one? did we need one when we swept all before us?  did we need one when me marched across Europe for 8 years dominating the continents elite?
the whole model is wrong for me, this DoF bullshit is crap look at united, get a strong manager, back him , give him time and have no confused messages on teh football side, the manager is the gaffer

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, I was just pointing out the similarities after you said he's avoided relegation and done fuck all.

Similar yes I suppose, but come on with some really great managers out there we are approaching Martinez. Who lets face it played some nice stuff at wigan but ultimately avoided relegation. He should be 4th/5th choice once other managers say no.

I completely agree with the bit at the top there. Antonio Conte just won the league, undefeated with Juve in his first season. Previous he'd got Siena promoted and didn't do much with Atalanta. He's an adaptable manager and has got the very best out of a Juve team without a prolific striker, Matri was top scorer with 10 I think.

I'm not for Martinez coming and I'm not against, I could go either way at the moment. I think the reaction over him is completely over the top.

As I said mate , there are many success stories of young managers taking on big jobs and making a right fist of it. If he is appointed , the least we can do is give him a fair chance to do things his own way and back him until his position becomes untenable.

However some people will not be happy until their choice of manager is approached/appointed and anyone else will be met with hostility. A young manager from small club is easy pickings for them.

Rafa Benitez forever.

Martinez, by the way, has done well at Wigan avoiding relegation. Wigan had the smallest revenue last year, yet came 16th. Without a significant spend, they improved this season to go 15th and I think they still have got the smallest revenue. So that's five places better off than their income suggests.

It's just sex and violence, melody and silence.
