Not sure where the Capello plays boring football comes from, it was just 2 seasons at Real Madrid who don't forget were moaning about Mourinho's boring football last season and at the start of this season (that's record breaking real madrid as well).
Capello's Roma team was one of the great teams, albeit only for one season they played 3-4-3 and were absolutely brilliant entertainment, and that at a time when Serie A was at it's height in terms of quality of players at clubs (Lazio won the scudetto before, Inter had vast swathes of talent as did Milan and Juventus).
Edit: infact, zonalmarking probably do a better job than me here - http://www.zonalmarking.net/2010/02/09/teams-of-the-decade-10-roma-2000-01/
Just thinking about how we could approximate a side like that, we could go:
Kelly Skrtel Agger
Johnson -- -- -- -- -- -- -- Enrique
Henderson -- Lucas
Suarez -- Carroll
which would somewhat approximate the side he had back then. I don't know if Henderson would really be the player we'd want in that position, but I think he would definitely suit it better than Adam. The other position of concern is that Carroll would need to start scoring some goals, or we'd need another option in that position. Perhaps the rumours of a Luuk de Jong could come to fruition, and he'd have a chance to make that position his own. I think we'd want another quality CB, in all honesty, if we were to try this. Coates could cover well for Skrtel in the centre, and Carra would fit into Kelly's slot well, but we don't really have another player other than Agger capable of playing on the left side of defense, and he's always an injury concern.
So, a left-footed capable backup CB, a striker and a CM option, and we could probably make something like that work pretty well.
