I and know plenty that don't. So there !

I'm sure you do. But you were suggesting that it's only internet folk that want him back. This isn't true. There are plenty of match going Reds that want him back.

Been casting my mind back a few weeks, when Kenny was openly praising the work Rafa did in laying the foundations for the good work done over the last few years at the Academy, getting Pep in and all that. Call me a nugget for mentioning it but I can't help think that seeds were being planted early doors...

I think by the sounds of it they are splitting that idea. Segura: identifying talent; General manager type: doing all the deals.

Could be interesting.

He's not defining the roles. He's the one that shed some light on the new structure.

Oh right, still don't think he's qualified to do it, but it just shows what a mess the club is in.

Aye. We'd be fucking stupid to have a position of strength at the club.

More FSG and their fucking Peter Principle, supplemented by the experience and magnetism of Bobby fuckin' Martinez.

They thought Comolli was qualified last time. The club's in the shit and hiring another bad DoF that they'll sack in a years time would compound that.

Haha, I wasn't being a smart arse. Just wondered what more senior duties meant in general. Just seems like it could be a whole host of things to me. Very vague.

No worries mate, just wondering who the senior football people are at the club who are making the decisions. Presumably Clarke may have recommended him and possibly Kenny before his departure?

So now the owners don't want a DOF...Couldn't make this up.

That sounds like Segura taking up a merged role, which might not be that bad a thing. New manager has a little more power. Academy has more of a link with first team.
In Holland, they don't say they are developing players - they say they are developing future coaches.

Wigan in the premier league:

Before Martinez:

2005/6: 10th
2006/7: 17th
2007/8: 14th
2008/9: 11th

With Martinez

2009/10: 16th
2010/11: 15th
2011/12: 15th

I'm not drawing any conclusions from this, but after 3 years he's reduced their average finishing position in the league.

I'm not entirely sure that's what Segura does at youth level though. Segura is basically responsible for the coaching set up at the academy level. All things at academy are done to his program. Him being promoted would suggest he's been given a similar responsibility for the first team IMHO.

Tony Barrett:

Although Ayre stopped short of defining the disparate roles or identifying the individuals who will fill them, it is understood that Pep Segura, the technical director at the club’s academy, is likely to be promoted to a similar role with the first team. A direct replacement for Damien Comolli as director of football is no longer being sought, but FSG is in the final stages of filling a general manager-style position.
Please let this be true. Rafa brought him in- as anyone within the borders of Rome knows and he's done fantastically in that Directors' job.
A true bootroom-style appointment!

To be honest I wish fans would leave the owners be on this and let them decide.

So now the owners don't want a DOF...Couldn't make this up.

Dunno. Could mean the 'General Manager' role encompasses the DoF and more, or that the GM and a promoted Segura as 'Technical Director' fulfill that expanded role between them. Either way, it still seems to mean that effectively we will have (in one or two individuals) something like a 'DoF', with a less powerful 'manager'.
Today, truth.

Another thing to consider though is that it is more difficult for a small team to succeed playing good football because they can't get the best players. That being said I would rather Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas or De Boer
