As long as we bury the buy british policy deep under ground we`ll be ok.

How can we do that entirely when we have new rules coming in?

Can't see Rafa working with a DoF or vice versa
I know that, but if it is Txiki, cant think he wouldnt interview Rafa at all.And I cant think that Rafa may not be interested in this job now.Come to think of it,if it is Begiristain as DoF,it effectively begins a revolution. Our footballing philosophy will change forever.
What is the United line-up?

Nine points behind us with a negative net spend.  Oh and 2 less wins than us the whole season.

#Martin Jol, Paul Lambert, Tony Pulis, Brendan Rodgers all rub hands with glee at this and check their phones.

'A big manager is less likely to fail ' is exactly the point. You go for managers with a good track record because they have proven they can do it. You don't go for managers with no track record because they have not. Your approach is akin to playing the lottery, crossing your fingers and hoping you get lucky. What's the point of vetting managers, checking their CV, examining their track record if you then turn around and go 'fuck it, they might fail anyway, I'll go for this unknown entity, I have a good feeling about him'. That approach is far more likely to fail.

So you'd want Mourinho, then? A facetious point perhaps, but the personality, philosophy and vision of a manager is important; it's not just a matter of picking the best win record or fullest trophy cabinet.

Today, truth.
Tomorrow, justice for the 96.

Imagine for a moment ....

Ferguson has just retired and first in line for interviews to replace him is Roberto Martinez.

We would be wetting ourselves with laughter.

We are a world-reknowned club and STILL this country's most decorated one.

We should be aiming higher.  The very top, in fact.

That's all that need be said.

Where more like Stoke Aston Villa Everton than we are Manchester United now sadly.

I'm guessing FSG are going to announce the manager, DOF and DOC at the same time. According to rumours the DOF and DOC have been filled so just the manager's seat left to fill.

Didn't FSG criticise Rafa's work in the past when they first took over (about the wage bill) and I doubt Rafa would want to work with a DOF  :-\

Hmm would have to agree

"The club needs a management structure, it needs a boardroom filled with the people running the club. When we went there, there was Alan Hansen welcoming people, it was a bit embarrassing to be honest, although he was doing his best."

Unprofessional.  Negligent.

Words to describe it, and FSG have had 19 months.

Honestly starting to wonder when this clear out was planned?

Think they might have put things on hold see how things pan out with Kenny, Commolli and everyone else they've sacked.

If they move swiftly over the next few weeks I'd assume plan B has been in the pipeline for a while.

That is not slating us that is bang on the money as far as I am concerned, I don't really see how anyone could argue with it to be honest.
No he was probably pissed off because the Boardroom allowed women in, and not full of men over 65, like the Golf Club he goes to in Blackburn.

True, but we're not a CL club, nor have we been for a few years.

We're going to struggle to attract a top manager, so unfortunately we're left in a position of taking a punt on potential or giving a 'failure' a second chance....

Bayern were out of the CL for a small period too.

Didn't stop them still believeing (and rightly knowing) that they are a rich/massive club known across the world.

And look where they are now.

Your last point is irrelevant.  It would be very smalltime of us to believe that we couldn't attract a top manager.  Chelsea may well win the CL this week but if they don't they will also be out of the top 4 and no CL next year.  Do you really think that that fact will stop Roman from still approaching Pep?

At the moment I wish so much for him to come back it almost hurts..

What's that all about mate? confirmed talks are to take place with Rafa?

I think this system they're implementing now is what they've always wanted to do, but couldn't because they had to sack Hodgson too soon and Kenny was too bad during this caretaker role to not give him a contract.

This is a key factor! Rafa has remained unemployed in part because he's been waiting for an opening in England in order to have a free hand.

Whilst I have nothing against Roberto Martinez and i'm sure he is a decent manager, what exactly qualifies him to be Liverpool boss?? A Liverpool manager should have certain credentials and have experience of managing big players at a big club where there are expectations to win every week! This is another Hodgson scenario in my opinion. Someone who is good at getting a small club to punch above it's weight is not likely to cut it at a club like Liverpool. Martinez is just flavour of the month after a few good results for Wigan and an amazing last gasp escape from relegation.

I would rather have given Kenny another year than give the job to Roberto Martinez.
I only said I done it so they'd take the rat out of me anus!

Its not exactly randomly selecting a name out of a box is it?  Other aspects should be in line with what is required , namely footballing philosophy and approach. You cannot overemphasize the importance of that while looking for candidates because that characteristic is not going to change.

My point is ,an experienced manager is not better than an inexperienced one in all circumstances if the inexperienced candidate has other desirable qualities. It is safer to go for a well known name but a more risky approach cannot be immediately discarded as a sureshot path to failure as many are doing on here.

Villas Boas , Conte , Klopp , Rafa etc would never have happened if their respective clubs all followed a zero risk approach based purely on past record.

"The club have great supporters, but the place is a morgue, a desolate place, without heart, all I can say is what a shame for their supporters," Whelan told ESPN
That's slating us and he's a two faced prick. Telling him not to go to us. Yet now he's offering him on a silver platter, knowing he'll try and pull our pants down over compo.

Of all the stuff going on at LFC at the moment you're moaning about Dave Whelan making a comment which could interpreted as negative towards the club?...

that's right, he's a pep guardiola-esque football colossus we'll be fighting all the greats of Europe to sign up...  ::)

So those are the only two choices? You either get the man who is widely regarded as the best manager in the game or you get Roy? No in-between? Thank you for proving my point.

Here's what I want in our next manager, not necessarily in order of importance:

1)Tactically flexible and intelligent
2)Good man manager (and by that I mean the ability to get players to play "above" their assumed ability)
3)Someone who gets 11 players to play as 1
4)Understands the supporters
5)Identifies and incorporates young players
6)Good with the press

I think if we can get a manager who has those 6 qualities it will be a very good hire. I don't care who the name is or where he comes from; I care that he can perform those tasks. Martinez for me has demonstrated an ability to perform 5 of those tasks to some degree. That isn't to say he would be a hit here, but I think he has a chance for those reasons. He plays a pleasing style of football and one that I think can yield results with better players like Suarez, Gerrard, Lucas, and Agger.

As I've said, he wouldn't be my top choice, but the people in here writing him off because all he's done is avoid relegation are really really short-sighted.

Erm how have I shown him disrespect? It's a fact Wigan only won 5 out of first 32 games. He's not the only manager who's kept little old Wigan in Premiership, I assume you think Bruce was suitable for us in the past then?

For the record I don't mind Martinez, he's a decent enough bloke. I just don't think its right time for him to join.

Its disrespectful that you are belittling his achievements. You keep banging on about him only winning 5 games out of his first 32 games. AGAIN HES MANAGING WIGAN FFS WHAT THE HELL DO YOU EXPECT? the same wigan that we only managed to be 9 points a drift of btw despite spending infinitely more on our squad then theirs.

As for liking him to Steve Bruce. Thats like night and day, chalk and cheese in ter s of footballing philosophy. You see its not just the fact that Martinez has kept wigan up for three seasons thats impressive, its the way his team has gone about doin it aswell.

What about Guardiola managing Barca, as an example of no track record?

Thank you. Another example. ALthough Guardiola was pretty much Barca through and through and learned his trade managing their B team. Plus their structure makes it easier for successors who are familiar with the ethos of the club and what is required.
