History repeats itself, first as a tragedy, second as a farce.

They are nowhere near hicks and gillett, but they are another bunch of capitalists out to make money from the club. Every jersey, every season ticket, every scouse pie, the money all goes into their pocket. We should be grateful for any crumbs we get from now on.

I'd love to be as optimistic as some of the people on here. Similar to when Rafa was sacked.

Hicks is a winner, look what he's done with the Rangers and the Stars, give the owners more time. The owners don't pick the team, Rafa does. He's wasted £200m, etc, etc...

The warning signs have been there for some time.

History repeats itself.
Yeh I must admit I feel the same. Can someone pls explain who's advising these Americans? Go back a month or so and we were still going to end up with a poor final position in league so surely the decision was taken then if that's their reason. So if they have any nous they will know who they want now and that person had better have a pedigree and be a real chance. Otherwise they are crap.

I was one of the few dissenting voices when we gave Kenny the job.  He wasn't the outstanding candidate in my opinion and to use a phrase I used last January, it was a misty eyed roll of tThe owners need to act quickly and decisively and if the going gets tough next season, they need to give the manager total, vocal support.  If it is to be Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas we cannot allow the players to win that battle.  He's got the right ideas and if the players reject them, the club should reject those players.

I don't think Villas-Boas would have the same problems at Liverpool, I just can not see any of our players being anything like those at Chelsea.

Carra seems to accept he is 3rd choice, Bellamy knows he has limited playing time and Kuyt looks to be on his way.

I wonder how he would use the other players, maybe he would upset some, but I still can't imagine any of them kicking up much of a fuss - certainly none with any power.

I don't think Kenny's let anyone down.

I don't mean in the sense perhaps it sounded.  I meant more from the owners perspective.  You can't on the one hand say it's been a terrible league campaign and then blame everyone involved in that apart from the manager.  Kenny helped sign the players, picked the team, picked the tactics and we were well short on far too many occasions.  Like I say, I am very saddened, sickened a little bit, by him going, as a league victory or a european trophy under Dalglish would feel 10 times that under anyone else and even leaving all sentimentality aside, I do think there was cause for optimism this season but he, as well as the players underperformed and he shouldn't be exempt from critical analysis.

I'm angry they won't even consider Rafa. I understand their concerns but realistically he's the best manager we could get at the moment. There is no way Klopp would leave Germany now. And Guardiola has to take his break. Even Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas is too much of a risk imo as he only proved himself once at a lesser league.

If they appoint the likes of Martinez it will be incredibly stupid.

FSG have in my opinion set a precident by their actions yesterday. The likes of Martinez would not get us anywhere near the Top 4. Would FSG give him the bullet after one full season in charge? Not that I reckon he'd survive that long anyways.

They all seem reasonable, even the ammounts paid (barring Lukauku) but is it Roman or Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas doing the buying Ancelotti would suggest it is Roman.

We all love winning trophies and who didn't enjoy further increasing our record league cup haul but I'm sorry winning the Carling Cup isn't a great achievement in the modern era - it just isn't.  We played an average championship side in the final.  I agree the importance placed upon a 4th placed finish is an ugly addition to the modern football world but we do exist in that world and whether you want to accept it or not, finishing 4th means finishing 1st in future is more likely - that's the simple facts.

I haven't seen any proof of this actually ever happening. It seems to me that the only true competitors for the league title are the super-rich clubs and the established clubs - City, Chelsea and United. Arsenal and Spurs haven't competed for the title in years - despite qualifying for the Champions league, there seems to be very little in the way of progression towards winning trophies from either of them. Instead, they've become fixated on maintaining their positions in the league, which is all finishing in the top four gets you. It's about money, not success.

I think it's a myth. City and Chelsea spend money regardless of where they finish in the league, and players will come to them even if they're not in the top four.

Saw somewhere that a new manager would be given around 30m net to spend..That's decent enough if true. For 30m,and say 15 odd million from sales,we could get a good team, with some bosmans and a couple of 15m good deals.

If it's a myth, give me some examples of teams finishing outside the champions league places one year and then winning the league the next.

Qualifying for the champions league means you get higher revenue and can attract a better standard of footballer.  It's fairly basic mate.

I still haven't gotten over yesterday. I might be going over the top here but I feel as though, The Liverpool Way died.

The Rafa situation was far worse. Having given everything to the club for six years, the board went behind his back and sacked him purely because he stood up to the drivel they put him and everyone else who loves the club through. This was of course done whilst he was on holiday with his family, with Purslow telling the press before he told Rafa. At least with Kenny, things were done in a more dignified way with the reasons being footballing ones.

If the Liverpool Way died, it was not yesterday.

Well, of course, if you're owned by a billionaire sugar daddy and you can afford to offer crazy wages, that makes life a little easier. We're not, though, and for us and everyone else with ambitions to win the league, we need the Champions League first. It's not nice that that's the way it is, but that's the way it is nonetheless.
