Do you have any knowledge to back that up (don't want to know who told you, just IF someone told you he's not going to be appointed) or are you just talking out of your arse?

I vote the latter.

He's talking out  of his ass.
That right peg hits it and you see the future arc of the ball and time goes al gluey like a Dali painting, and for a second there's a 20yr old StevenGerrard and your young self cheering him on through the prism. His big smile fades in an the net is shivering and J.Hart's trying not to look grateful for the privilege of being that close to greatness

the only reason Rafa is at 9/2 is because hopeful Rafa fans are throwing money at it, in the hope that it will come true.
it's not an accurate reflection of his chances.
which are zero.

Why are you so confident that his chances are zero mate?

He was just on sky and they asked him about age and he said that no candidate would be included or excluded because of criteria like that. He was also asked about Rafa and that maybe after Kenny we should not be "going back" again and he again said that no candidate would be included or excluded for that reason.

Looks like they will give everyone a chance to throw their hat in the ring and then wittle them down.

They have put huge pressure on themselves to get it right now either way.
He could be speaking the truth. He also could quite easily be making a conscious decision to not comment on any specific manager, whether directly or indirectly. I'd be happy with him doing either.

With the owners giving the next manager 4-5 yr contract it would make absolute fuck all sense giving the job to a guy without any European football knowledge. So that should rule out martinez, Rodgers lambert etc

Best man available - rafa, 2nd Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas

Buy out a contract - klopp, de boer, Low, Bielsa, ancelotti

Can't see Rafa getting the job mainly because I think they'd want to create something new here

I think the point regarding Rafas odds being skewed by people putting on a tenner cos they want him back is a fair point. Saying there's no chance is a bit too much though.

And why would you be so surprised?

because he's his own man,
and he doesn't fit the FSG template of young, eager to prove himself and good value for money (cheap).

this is FSG's first real chance to stamp their identity on the club and I think it's most unlikely that they will go for someone who has a history here already.

One plus for Rafa would be his self implemented scouting system(I think he mentioned it in an interview?) which he kept running despite being without a job.

Haha- Rafa and his ideals. A model of a manager and a genius.

Made me chuckle that.

It is very important for FSG to get the man they feel fits their vision. Funds and time can then be given to him to see the roadmap take place over 3 or so years.

You could say the same about Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas's odds or anyone else's odds. Or do we now believe that bookies have someone sitting in JWH office listening to who he's talking to? And it doesn't matter if people put money on anyone, because they want him or because they think they have a decent chance of getting cheap money, because they read in a newspaper that xy has been approached...

change the record lads.
Rafa won't be back under FSG.

why are  you convinced of that ?

wont they consider candidates based on their achievements?  Benitiz did very well with little money to spend. I would have thought that appealed to the owners.

I love Rafa & pretty sure no one on here would be against it if he did come back but he is not the only option. I feel the if anything the very pro-Rafa people would be the ones disappointed in the long term as they remember him as peerless & without fault.

Not true.

I don't think anyone has any concrete knowledge, but all the noises coming from journos etc. seem to indicate that Rafa isn't being considered. Oh and Ayre was on the board when Rafa got sacked.

I really, really can't see it being Rafa unfortunately.

It won't be Rafa we need to look to the future and not the past if we want to push on and move forward, simple as.

I love this argument - which, in the absence of any further justification, is hilarious.

"I had some brilliant nights in boozer 'x' last year, so I'm never going to go there again, as I need to look to the future".

"My boss sent me on an all-expenses paid jolly to New York last year. He's just said I can go again this summer, but I need to push on and move forward, so I told him to fuck off".

etc

I think it's unlikely Rafa will come back but I wouldn't pay much attention to journalists at the moment. Already, one has said Villas Boas is in the frame and another has said he isn't. Most probably have about as much clue as you or me.

OK I'll stop talking about Benitez now.

I promise!

I do find it odd how everyone is so pro Benitez on here, but if you go on The Liverpool Way for example, most don't want him back.

Maybe forums are like sheep and people follow what the most influential posters say?!

Anyway, if Benitez coems back he will have my support.

That's not the case what you say about the Liverpool WAy.Lot's of arguing over there about Rafa.A few seem to think he said some "nasty"things -are diddums.maybe Carra posts on there. Most would at least want him over Martinez.

So far we have some reports saying Rafa no go and Wigan manager is in, same guys saying clarks gone etc

Then we have the club saying they not spoke to anyone yet, and Clark is still at the club hmmmm.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benítez admitted after the match that the manner of his side's victory had stunned him and he stated: "My problem is that I don't have words to express the things that I feel at this moment"

Does anybody think they haven't already gotten their man?
Seems to me this isn't some kneejerking from FSG, and that they now are implementing their plan after a (prolonged) assesment period.
The sacking of Comoli et al, and the swift dismissal of KK the day the season ended all points toward a bigger plan that is being executed know. Would be very surprised if they haven't sounded out their man months ago, and now only put up a show out of respect of Kenny and us (and maybe some employments laws i know nothing of), and is waiting the appropiate time to appoint him.

Kenny wasn't their man, or at least not manager, and to be honest if he hadn't been at the club when Rafa was binned, he probably wouldn't have been on a list of 25 possible candidates. Hodgson threatened to relegate us, so FSG had to react, they had not made their plan yet, so Kenny was an easy choice, and since avoiding relegation and maybe unify the club once again was the only real aim, a risk free one.
Kenny worked miracles and almost got us CL, so they simply had to give him some sort of chance. They still wasn't gambling on him, so they roughly gave him what was raised through playersales and what was saved on interest payment, they only risked a year, but gained time to really get a plan in place if the miracles didn't continue.

To some of us and probably and definately also to FSG (who know him as Kenny and not King) this season raised more question than it answered and since Dalglish originally didn't tick too many of the boxes of their idea of a manager, if any,  they are implementing their plan.
First time they really show their hand, it is going to be exiting to see what they are about.
“I think the fans know that when I was fighting some of the press said, ‘Oh, he’s fighting for the power.’

“I was not fighting for the power. I didn’t need more power. I was fighting for the future of the club.”

The way I feel right now:

Dream scenario - Pep Guardiola
Would make me very happy - Rafa Benitez
Would really welcome - Jurgen Klopp

I can't say I'm remotely interested in anyone else mentioned to be honest.

I hope this is the case.
