The reason he might come is because, given the license to do here what Dortmund did, our club has a higher potential ceiling for achievement, it's that simple. We, potentially, can make more money, attract better players, keep more players etc etc.

Put it another way - if we had Dortmund's squad only with the young German's replaced by young English, and with wages comparable to our current ones, would OUR Sahin be desperate to leave for a 'bigger' club? Would we have to fend off offers for a Japanese playmaker if we'd just won the Premier League?

I don't think he's likely to come - though I think he's the perfect man for what I'd want the job to be - but Liverpool manager is a fucking great job, one of the best in world football, and there's been far, far worse times to take over the club than right now, there really has been. There are still players and managers who can be attracted by a project - and we could certainly be an astonishingly attractive project to the right manager. In some ways we're the perfect project - expectations lowered to slightly more realistic levels, owners who are clear in their targets and very supportive if those targets are met - a reliable amount of money to spend - a quality youth system, and above all else there isn't a name in football that comes close to our legend where a new manager could come in and actually be under relatively little pressure. It's a much easier job in many ways than taking over Barca right now, for example.
Or he could look at it like he doesn't need the hassle because we seem absolutely rudderless at the moment. Would he really like that when he is probably in a position to cherry-pick were he wants to work either? I dont think so.

I was asking a honest question mate, if what Stephen Martin is true (big if) it makes no sense to me that Kenny would turn down a resignation package if he did not want to force the hands of FSG to sack him off.

Still shocked he's been sacked to be honest and not the usual left by mutual consent - it just does not add up to me.

I just took it that Kenny still thought he was the right man for the job and Fenway didn't.

Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas looks a it of a quim to me. We need a ruthless bastard who is prepared to kick arses, regardless of who they belong to.

?

I imagine that "not looking like a quim" is top of FSG's list of managerial requirements.

Sounds like Van Gaal is your man there.

Van Gaal knows his stuff and has seems able to identify talent. Having said that I can't see him as a Liverpool manager.

Well what do you expect? A long debate on how an internet fanbase, who, in most cases has never even been to Liverpool let alone set foot inside Anfield, can have some sort on say on our next manager? Come on la, think abar it....

And Kenny's seat even hasn't got fucking cold yet and people are already drawing up wish lists on new managers. Embarrassing.

As one of the guys off the Anfield Wrap was saying earlier, who ever comes in now will have a clean slate. I think were doing ourselves a disservice in who'd be interested in the job. Were a massive club that's gone through a lot of board room and financial  hite over the last few years and most sensible posters have been saying it'll take 2 or 3 years before were back to the position we were at under Rafa.

Well that's the end of year one, it hasn't  gone the way any of us wanted really but in hindsight it never does.

Currently - bearing in mind it's barely four hours since Kenny's dismissal - the most credible and likely is Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas, obviously because FSG have reportedly been in contact with him, but for me he's the stand out of candidate of  anyone who'd be interested and who could benefit from the massive profile boost it would provide.

He was a good coach at Porto and was always on a hiding to nothing at Chelsea, where far better managers than him had previously been fucked off for no good reason.

IF he ended up in charge it would be interesting to see how we'd be set up at boardroom level. I mean, he's already been given loads of shit by the media in England so who ever comes into direct our communications needs to be ready from the off.

If Pepe wants to leave, let him go.  He has been no better than average for the past two years.

We need to get the new manager in quick so he can sort this kind of thing though.

There have been strong rumors about Valero returning this summer: It would be just our 'luck' at the moment that we'd fumble keeping Pepe just as we get his Goalkeeping coach back.

This.

Honestly, people rating him at the same level as the likes of Lambert and Martinez is fucking idiotic.

I never said I rated him like them two just said it's a gamble. Winning the Europa League (Hodgson almost did that) and two trophies in a minor european league (Hodgson did that as well) does not make him a god.

Chelsea bought into that and he couldn't control the big players, he's a nice bloke and probably a good manager but he did fail at Chelsea whatever excuses are put up to defend him. Are you saying Di Matteo has succeeded because he's given in to those players?, no, he's managed what was put in front him well, just like he did at WBA.

I wish to fuck we weren't owned by people out to screw the club for money.

As I've said before, that's utterly ridiculous.  If money wasn't the only concern, they wouldn't be paying off the current staff, hiring a whole new one (which will almost certainly come at a higher price), plus having to provide the funds for the new hire to build his own team.  Instead, we'd be looking to cut funds and "build from the youth program" for several years of mediocrity, all the while "selling" the club to fans on the basis of its history rather than its current accomplishments.

To me, this move (right or wrong) shows that FSG is serious about winning, and will sacrifice short-term gain to do so.

Yes, this Club is rotten to the core. Just like modern football is.

Has been for years, before, during, and now after Hicks and Gillett. Look at ticket prices. Look at ticket allocations. Look at today.

Sacking a legend like Dalglish in the manner that they have (and don't be fooled by KD's statement) is out of order. Fly out to Boston, issue an end of season report that we won't understand because we don't have a clue, then we'll decide it isn't good enough and bin you off without a farewell. They've tossed the Club's most valuable asset to the curb, and they've no idea where to go from here.

I got the Lucas thing wrong. Will be right on Henderson though. Play him RM, play him CM - Not good enough and never will be.

I just took it that Kenny still thought he was the right man for the job and Fenway didn't.

Totally agree Alan, but once the first 'resignation package' was put forth surely all parties knew the end was nigh.  I am with Kenny as it happens, he should have been given more time - why give him a three year deal and oversight if they will hire and fire at will.

I'm a big fan of Rafa but it's not going to happen, at all, so stop banging on about him.

If it were an open forum and all the managers were assembled with their accomplishments, their understanding of the City. Of the Club. Of the aspirations, aims and ideals and their view of the English media machine.

There can be only one.

You know it. I know it. Many on here know it. A fair few hate it.

But it's true.
Football has reached the ninth gate of farce and pathetic, unbelievable trite nonsense. It's supposed to be a game and it's turned into pantomime, hype, quilts and bellends.

It can't hurt to approach, although I see your point he may see himself being able to do more at LFC in the long haul, and bring over some of his more loyal players with him. Although I've got a horrid feeling it's going to be Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas or Martinez, I think Klopp would be the best shout.

I still rate Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas.  The mistake he made at Chelsea was coming in and trying implement a full rebuilding process that really wasn't required.  They already had a strong squad and knew how to play to win, but he was too eager to get them playing his way and make them his side.

You could argue therefore that that is actually the kind of coach we need.  Someone who will come in and restructure and rebuild like Rafa did.  It's just a thought, but I know plenty of reds who would've been buzzing at the prospect of Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas before he went to Chelsea, and no manager has had a faultless career.
Someday soon everyone will know the truth.  96 never forgotten.

A lot of bullshit in there. Is there a good way to sack someone? And judging from the moves they have made in the last month or two, I'd say FSG know exactly where they are going.
Let us never forget Rafael Benitez and what he did for us. A fighter full of guts and passion. A gentleman full of class and dignity. A football manager full of intelligence and pure genius. A Legend.

It is FSG who have to deliver, if they succeed this day will ultimately be forgotten (by most), if they fail then it is FSG who will feel the heat. Kenny was in the hotseat for the last 18 months it is JW Henry and Tom Werner who sit in it now, not the man they appoint.

"The club have great supporters, but the place is a morgue, a desolate place, without heart, all I can say is what a shame for their supporters," he said.

"The club needs a management structure, it needs a boardroom filled with the people running the club. When we went there, there was Alan Hansen welcoming people, it was a bit embarrassing to be honest, although he was doing his best."

but other than that i am really looking forward to the next few years to see what they bring to the table....... fresh start

Well put it this way, if this time next year things are no better then they'll have to start looking in the mirror for people to blame.

Its RAFA. Nobody else can fill the void that has been created.
Public enemy number one: On the RAWK watch list for offering alternative views, supporting Rafa and abusing ill informed WUMS with dubious agendas. Where's the crime in that? Victim of self-important mod with itchy finger.

John Terry is managing that Chelsea team.
