Looks like Clarke has left too.

All these people saying Martinez isn't the right man for the job - and I don't direct this specifically at anyone in here, but the general consensus of what I'm reading - then here are a few points about why you're talking out of your arse:

- Martinez is unproven? Well, you have to step up to the plate and be given your chance sometime. You cannot become proven if you're never given the chance. He's young, hungry, and shown he is a very intelligent person and manager. FSG did the identical thing with the Red Sox and it didn't turn out too badly for them.

- We must get X, Y and Z who has done it on the big stage. Why? We're not getting Guardiola, Mourinho or anyone of that caliblre - reality check - and anyone besides a select few have just as much chance of failing.

- Martinez has shown he has a keen eye for young talent, is young himself and is not only very personable, but has got some great football out of a Wigan side that should have been relegated years ago.

- Unlike Roy who many weren't convinced of due to his other failing's and flash-in-the-pan appointment, Martinez hasn't just done well with a team this season, he has consistently done it throughout his short managerial career.

So anyone quick to jump down the young Spaniards throat needs to take a careful look at themselves, and on the official LFC TV forums in particular some of the comments posted are shameful. I wish these people would shut their mouths and if Roberto, who is currently the 11/10 favourite, does get the job then support him 100%, because whether you want him or don't; the only way we are going to succeed is by getting behind whoever is placed at the helm.

Naturally feeling a little sad, but ultimately I think this is the right move.

The next move though is key. Whoever comes in I will support wholeheartedly and despite any reservations any of us may have, we need to support them until there is reason not to.

Rafa would be my choice, but it's not.
It looks to me as if we have signed another 'average' player. I'll hold back my complete opinion until I see the lad play

Did some reading and found this on theanfieldwrap, makes interesting reading:

http://www.theanfieldwrap.com/2012/04/stick-or-twist-a-lesson-from-history/

But the year Liverpool were last crowned champions was also the year Alex Ferguson almost lost his job.
Ferguson had spent big and expectations were high. Manchester United kicked off hoping, expecting, that for the first time since 1967 – 23 long years – they would win the league.
United had broken the British record for a defender with the purchase of Gary Pallister at £2.3million while deals for Danny Wallace (£1.2m), Neil Webb (£1.5m) and Paul Ince (£1.7m) were hardly cut price either.
The Pallister deal was in fact the second highest fee paid by a British club at the time. The biggest was by Liverpool to bring back Ian Rush from Juventus.
Ferguson had also tried to lure Glenn Hysen to Old Trafford but lost out – to Liverpool.
He still made a total of 10 signings that season as he tried to end years of underachievement in the league.
But while Liverpool won the title, as per usual back then, United slumped to 13th, their lowest league finish since their relegation from the First Division 15 years earlier.
It’s all sounding eerily familiar isn’t it?
Ferguson came under immense pressure with even the United fans turning on him – one producing the infamous banner: ’3 years of excuses and it’s still crap – ta ra Fergie’.

Thanks for everything Steve.   :(

Most managers have their own assistant manager anyway so whoeveer is next will bring in their coaching staff whoever that may be.

He might be a c*nt but hes a winner. I'd have Mourinho over most of the other names that are being mentioned.

Kenny, Clarke and Ayre all gone...Martinez, Rogers etc rumoured to be next manager...this really is a nightmare

If FSG sacked Dalglish for not making top 4 then they have to appoint a proven top 4 manager not Rodgers or Martinez!

The thing is though

Who are we going to bring in? If it's a top manager then they'll be expected to get results straight away surely? Is there going to be loads of finance for them to use?

If it's anything less than a top manager it doesn't really make sense to sack Kenny without giving him another season.

That's the problem, is next year going to be a 'transition season'. If they're going to bring their own ideas in with money then they'll have to be a very good manager for it not to be.
I think I may be turning gay. That back heel & through ball to Enrique made me jizz like Ive never jizzed before. My fiancee has got some serious work to do if she wants to get me as excited as I do about Coutinho.

I am shocked. I know that results weren't that great in the league and I guess managers live and die by results.

Just dropped a letter off at Kenny's house thanking him for everything he has done for the club.

We were 5 points off the bottom when he took over and finished his reign with 3 trips to Wembley.

The king is dead. Long live the King ! YNWA Kenny !!!!

Its not the discussion for this thread, but retaking the reigns in a club you adore, is not sticking the knife into a former manager/friend/king.

I'm saying if they interviewed Rafa while Kenny had the job, Rafa is sticking the knife in Kenny's back.

You don't do that to an alleged friend.  Not until the job is open.

Gutted, don't think the right decision has been made at all. One of the greatest managers and players in the club's history and I believed he was on the path to better things with us.

Disappointing about Clarke too, Gerrard spoke very highly of him.

Well... i wasn't expecting that....i knew out results were poor i myself was getting a little pissed off with our playing style.

BUT wow it doesn't half show FSG mean business.

Regarding a replacement i can only think of three people i would take on such short notice:

Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas - Young, good style, successful would be the best option IMO, dont like this chat about him being shit because of Chelsea does that mean that Scolari, Hiddink, Mourinho, Ancelotti,  Ranieri were all bad managers no.

Rafa - Know what you get, wouldnt be very exciting IMO, would be interesting to see what he would do with money, and i do love the guy, plus you just know he would get us 4th.

Rijkaard- Lovely football, top manager

The bit about Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas I don't understand, Mourinho, Ancelotti and Hiddink won trophies? Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas did nothing? He would be the worst option imaginable, his style proved it doesn't work here.

That's a poor excuse. If we thought like that, then maybe we should not have replaced Hodgson either as clearly at that time, there were not many options. So therefore that was the only reason kenny got the job.

It will be seriously worrying if there isn't a new manager in place fairly soon (i.e. early to mid June) - if we're still scrambling around for a manager during/after the Euros it will show that the guys behind the scenes really don't know what they're doing. I sincerely hope that they've already drawn up a list and know who their top choice is, and are actively in talks at the moment.

Also I hope that they have worked out what the overally structure for the club is going to be - who is responsible for what etc etc. It was by no means obvious at all over the last 12-18 months.

Those of you who have never been to Anfield to see what this man has done for Liverpool FC please kindly fuck off elsewhere, Kenny Dalglish is a legend.

Can you get off you high horse? I have never been to Anfield. I have never even seen the man in flesh. And you know what? I am feeling sick to the stomach at this news. I haven't needed to visit Anfield (though I would love to) to understand what Kenny Dalglish means to this club. And you have no idea what Kenny means to me.

to run through a brick wall for me then come out fighting on the other side."

Same.  We need a proper CEO (or whatever the hell we'll call the position) but it would be a shame to lose Ayre.  Despite losing the Champions League, or total revenues only dropped 2m last financial year, which is a pretty remarkable achievement.  And it's mostly/entirely down to Ayre's work increasing our commercial revenues.

Kenny. What is there to say now except thank-you? You were there when we needed you, then we cast you aside - the club acting in the new Liverpool way - like an ungrateful child with ADHD. There needs to be some sort of plan to create and promote stability and the situation can be recovered but right now I'm just gutted for the man. Good luck Kenny, with whatever you choose to do next.
