the cup finals set a false picture of the way the team were performing. Considering we had no european football to contend with the players have should have been completely capable of reaching 2 finals. We have never had a problem raising our game for big one off matches.
The problem for kenny and comoli was the players they bought in in the summer simply didn't perform and we all spent months on here discussing how poor they were. Coupled with the costs of these players then you can only conclude that the summer spending was a failure and DC and kenny paid the price, simple as that. If it had been any other manager everyone would be in agreement.
The two of them failed and now they probably feel they need to put their original plan in place of getting a new up and coming manager who is their man.
Its really that simple the way i see it. We can all kick off and moan about the club being in dissarray and ni senior figures in place but they are clearly working on all this behind the scenes with 2 big appointments being made last week.
people are hysterical and just need to calm down a bit
The squad was trimmed down to the bone because of the lack of European Competition but as it happened we played one less game than 10/11 when we played 12 Europa League games. We lost our back up Striker to Bolton and Meireles put in a transfer with hours of the summer window to go. We entered a season we were expecting to play 40-45 games two players short.
As for reaching two domestic finals it's only been done a handful of times in the history of English Football talk about damning with faint praise.
Again it's nonsense to say last summers signings failed up until January Enrique and Bellamy were superb, Adam did a decent job filling in for injured Gerrard alongside Lucas and Doni and Coates where barely used. That leaves Downing who started brightly and who faded as the season went on and Henderson who had a decent first season at a big Club the kind of season Phil Jones had at united.
The big problem was that the two players we went into the season short of the backup striker and the centre mid where not replaced in January a situation compounded by the loss of Lucas for the season after 12 League games, Going back to your line about the two Cups clearly they did affect the League season Lucas was crocked at Chelsea in the Carling Cup and Agger was crocked in the Carling Cup final.
How the hell can you judge Kenny and the signings after six months which is what FSG did by pulling the plug and denying kenny the players he desperately needed. The day the January window opened we where two points from the top 4 with all our rivals Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs having to come to Anfield.
We were two players short going into a 40-45 game season lost Lucas for the season and ended up playing 52 games that for me there was a strong argument for bringing in 4 players in January, replacements for Meireles, Ngog, Lucas and an extra body to cover the extra number of games.
As for working about things behind closed doors they have been here for coming upto 20 months and again they are hiring and firing people it's the kind of thing we used to laugh at Newcastle for doing. We have a Commercial Director rustling up a Managerial shortlist for a couple of owners who have no idea about English Football.
It is akin to Purslow drawing up a shortlist of managers for Hicks and Gillet to choose from it is ridiculous and incredibly dangerous. We have an unqualified MD playing at Football Manager and absentee American owners AGAIN.
