Dirk Kuyt - On his way to Fenerbahçe?
« on: May 14, 2012, 07:27:01 PM »
http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12691/7756004/Kuyt-rules-out-step-backwards

Not back to his old club, it seems.

No other "concrete" news as of yet, but I think it is no secret that Dirk will not be at Anfield next season. Whatever happens, I'll wish him all the best.

Quote
Feyenoord's hopes of re-signing Dirk Kuyt from Liverpool have been left in tatters after the Holland international ruled out a summer return.

The 31-year-old is almost certain to leave Anfield this summer after struggling to hold down a first-team place under manager Kenny Dalglish.
In April, Kuyt was seen having talks with Feyenoord technical director Martin van Geel, sparking reports he would sign for the Rotterdam club, who he left in 2006.

However, although the player admits he considered a move back to his former club, he believes he still has much to offer a top European side.

Ambition and fitness

"The fact I held talks with Feyenoord indicates I wanted to give it a serious chance," Kuyt told AD Sportwereld.

"But in many ways the gap is too great at this moment in time.

"If I returned to Holland, I would have to take an 80 per cent cut in my Liverpool wages.

"If you are 35 or 36, you know your career is almost done. But I'm only 31 and in the prime of my life. I still have two or three years left at the top.

"I still have the ambition and fitness to play at the highest level, a club in a major competition or a big club with European ambitions."

Doubt we will be able to get a whole lot of money for him, and doubt we'll be able to replace him for that amount.

I think he wants to go back to Holland but noone there will pay his wages.

Will probably end up in Germany.
I'm really hoping Sturridge busts out the wacky dip when he scores.

Just saying wherever he ends up, we aren't going to be able to replace him for the money he leaves. Hoping we put it towards a good transfer though.

Not sure why we can't replace him for the money...Newcastle are sitting pretty with Ba and Cisse for a combined £9M.

I agree. Doubt we will be getting a large fee for him, especially with just 12 months left on his contract. No idea what his wages are, but I suspect he is one of the top earners. And at 31 (32 before the new season starts), how much "value" will we be getting over the next 12 months? Would Dirk sign a new contract? Especially if his wages are reduced?

I think the move is best for everyone here, unless Dirk is happy to play a squad role, and will sign a new 12 month extension (till 2014), with a wage cut. However, that is unlikely.

Ah the continued typical Liverpool player sales continue. I swear we're incapable of getting a good fee for any player (Bar Torres)

Honestly he should still have been a regular all season, far better than all players in that position. Can't blame him for leaving.

Anything <3M I think we need to keep him, get another year out of him, and let him go on a free a year later.  He'll still play hard...because it's in his nature and he'll still be trying to attract clubs next summer.

What's Derek paid per week? 80k ish?

FSG are after streamlining the wage bill and once Dirk, Carra, Cole are gone and replaced with younger, hungry guys I'd expect to see a more competitive squad.

I think that's the key point here. Kuyt is a great option to have, but we'd be doing him personally an injustice by not giving him enough game time, and whilst he is a good option, is he really worth £80k a week when most weeks he will be playing 30 minutes at most? Even if we don't get a very good fee for him, it's probably better economically than keeping him.

Its the right time to sell him.

His performances have dropped considerably in the past one year and is one high wages. He will be 32 by the time next seasons starts. So, the scope for improvement isn't there as well. He has been a good servant for the club but this is the right time to let him go.

Another one that can pass and move on his way out. Why is it we are intent on selling everyone that Suarez links up well with??

As said, little justification for the large wage packet so it clearly is the right time for him to move on.

He's turns 32 in a couple of months, and in the last 12 months of his contract.

Can't see anyone wanting to spend too much on him, especially given the wages he seems to be looking for.
I can see the club taking a low fee just to get him off the books.

His minutes dropped drastically this year and with Sterling coming up next year, cant see him getting much run next year.  If a suitor comes calling, the club should consider selling if only to reduce the wage bill.  It's the sad aspect of sports.  He is a true Red and will be sorely missed.

this is from Tony Barrett, so ultra credible -

Dalglish has told his players that he is not looking to let any of them leave, with the exception of Fábio Aurélio, the defender who is out of contract. Instead, the Liverpool manager is looking to add to his squad with Rasmus Elm, the AZ Alkmaar midfield player, and Younès Belhanda, the Montpellier winger, under consideration. Dalglish is also hoping to bring Xavi Valero back as goalkeeping coach.

Kenny would be foolish to tell players under contract that he wants them to leave. We need to be seen to want them to stay so we can derive maximum value from their departure.

Ideally we'd bring in some players in forward areas and keep Maxi and Kuyt as backup, but that seems unlikely with their wages.

There's a difference between Kenny wanting them to stay and the players wanting to stay. I don't think Kuyt would be happy to stay playing as few minutes as he did this year. I get the feeling he wants to be somewhere where he's played week in week out.

Guess Kenny wants to keep him for a squad role, Kuyt wants more football and thus out.

Aurelio and Maxi got matches to say good bye to the fans, but Kuyt got his now usual 15 minutes at the end. Have a feeling that's Kenny telling him he he's not prepared to let him go just like that.

Think he'll go though, and we'll see what we had when he's gone. :(

Yep, which is probbaly more important.  Dirky's wages along with Cole's and Fabio's probably make up a tidy sum, which could be used to secure a very high profile target.  Could.

Assuming Kuyt's on 80kpw then that's 4m a year in wages we are paying for a player that scored 2 league goals and 1 assist this season as a striker/wide forward. If we can get 3m for him with one year on his contract. We should absolutely let him go.

He's 32, not going to sign another contract so we could get another player for 15m (on a 5 year deal) and on 80kpw and it'd cost us the same amount per year as Kuyt. He's not worth that.

he has been such a great player for this club, but if he is not prepared to play a squad role then it would be best for everyone if he left. Im so stoked we won the carling cup, mainly for dirk. but with 2 goals and 1 assist in the leauge..and 80k a week...it probably best he left. If belhanda comes in then his game time is going to be even less, along with sterling, maybe even seeing suso on the right at some stage this year i just done see where his playing times coming from

but what a legend...good luck and all the best...a true red and will never be forgotten!! YNWA Dirk
