£8m is too cheap though, why are they selling him for that much, must not be very good obviously.

They aren't selling him for that much that's Newcastle's initial bid

So checked out a couple of youtube comps of Borini and it looks to me like he's a poacher type of striker, for those that have seen him is that an accurate description?

There's optimism and there's delusion.  You are treading the line lad.

Us needing a striker and a DM is not an opinion, it's a fact.  We have NO prolific striker and no dedicated defensive mid apart from Lucas.  You're a tit if you think we can do without either and if you think we can compete for 4th without improving the squad you're living in a dreamworld.

Newsflash, Dalglish is a terrific manager.  He got sacked because we did atrocious, catastrophic transfer business.  The squad is almost certainly weaker now than it was when Roy took over and you think we can get 4th because Swansea had high passing stats?  Jesus wept.

Newsflash, Dalglish is a terrific manager.  He got sacked because he (and comolli) did poorly in the transfer business (aswell as league results).

Fixed slightly.

Also, I would like to see a goal scorer and another DM to challenge Lucas place or to play along side him or be used as cover. Main priority would be to get some decent and pacey wingers. Something we been screaming out for in ages. But we dont know what system Brendan is going to use here, but if its anything like the Swansea system. Fast pacey talented wingers.

A striker and a dm would be great, but more important to a rodgers team is a couple of fast, goal scoring wingers. I think sterling might get a good few minutes, but our squad desperately needs a couple of decent wingers. Hopefully we'll also get a half decent bid in for downing, not good enough imho.

Thing is Maxi, Bellamy, Downing, Sterling, Shelvey, Gerrard and Suarez are all capable as wingers in a 433.  I suspect if we signed a quality striker then Suarez would be first choice right winger as he played for Ajax.  As much as I hate to say it, Downing is probably first choice on the left unless we manage to move him on.

I don't deny I'm the optimistic type. No point in being a miserable sod, always thinking the worst.

Us needing a striker and a DM is not an opinion, it's a fact.  We have NO prolific striker and no dedicated defensive mid apart from Lucas.  You're a tit if you think we can do without either and if you think we can compete for 4th without improving the squad you're living in a dreamworld.

Thanks for calling me a tit   ::) I'll give you the DM arguement. Suarez is capable of scoring 25+ goals, I wouldn't say we don't have a prolific striker. Depending on how Rodgers decides to play Suarez will depend on how much importance is placed on getting in a top striker in. I think it's more important the whole team chip in with the goals than we have one man scoring a shit load.

Newsflash, Dalglish is a terrific manager.  He got sacked because we did atrocious, catastrophic transfer business.  The squad is almost certainly weaker now than it was when Roy took over and you think we can get 4th because Swansea had high passing stats?  Jesus wept.

Kenny's players let him down badly, we didn't perform to the level our team on paper should have.

I never said I thought we could get 4th did I? I said none of us know what will happen once Rodgers implement's his system. I can't see us perfomaing as bad as we did in the league lst season.

I'd forgotten about Bellamy, and suarez could be very effective out wide. I don't think shelvey, gerrard or even maxi are really the type of wide players rodgers will want to use. Shelvey, gerrard will be used centrally imho, and while i think rodgers will rate maxi i'm not entirely sure he'll want to use him as a wide forward. I can see maxi being used as a more central attacking midfielder. The evidence from swansea suggests he likes to use quick, tricky wingers that will take on, and dribble past players. The less said about downing the better, i'm really not a fan.

Before rodgers was appointed i remember reading an article about swansea, bolton and west ham being interested in taking sterling on loan, so i'm hopeful he can really make an impact next season. He's exactly the kind of winger rodgers seems to like.

Mmm, I hope we see a lot of Sterling too.  With his pace I imagine he'll be handy towards the end of games, the same way Walcott is being used for England currently.  Any technician deficiencies in his game can be masked by having him burn tired defenders while he finds his feet at senior level.

In my heart of hearts I don't see maxi being here next season bit if he stays hopefully it'll be because buck likes him.  He can play any of the front 3 and while his pace is all but gone his positioning is still amazing.  It depends on the striker though.

I can see this being plan A, passing and dribbling them off the park:

Bellamy New Striker Suarez
Sylfi Gerrard
Lucas
Enrique Agger Skrtel Johnson
Pepe

With a deeper, more defensive plan b using the long ball and crosses:

Downing Carroll Gerrard
New Dm Lucas Henderson
Enrique Agger Skrtel Johnson
Pepe

interesting how commolli was again sacked for making "shit overpriced signings" like at spurs.. Although after he left a new manager managed to turn quite a few of those players into successes and now i'd consider their squad quite strong. Maybe a after a season to settle in downing, adam, hendo will improve a bit like carroll has?

Speaks for the quality of some of our transfers when Padelli is more memorable than Dossena. Still... What a debut.

I Dont get why people lump adam and even hendo in with downing.

Adam had a good season for what he is, he was in the top 10 for assists and got what 2 goals? Hes a decent squad player and cost that much. I wont care if he goes but hes not as bad as people make him out to be, no he shouldnt be starting every game but hes a good choice to have for resting players like gerrard and lucas and im sorry but if we want to be a top 4 team and more we need depth. Henderson wasnt amazing, but he was also played out of position all season and the kid has talent and is only freaking 21....yes he cost 16m but i dont think he deserves to be considered a failure yet. Downing however i agree with, 0 goals and 0 assists (this is worse than the 0 goals imo) Is a fucking disgrace for a 20m england international winger. I hope he goes but if he doesnt i hope to god brendan rodgers turns him into a 5-10g + 8-15a a season player, dont see it happening as he clearly has mental issues with his game.

The Downing issue truly is bizarre. Without doubt it's the mental side he's lacking, he simply choked out of his depth. A return of absolutely nothing (PL wise, it's what FSG care about) on an investment of 20m is unbelievable. I do think he will improve dramatically this season, but if he doesn't I won't object to him being shown the door next summer.
Fuck it, I'm taking me dog for a walk. The pair of us are completely bollocksed and take turns a piece dragging one another along. We look a bit like one of Roy's midfield pairings, but with a wee bit more guile and panache. Well, on the dog's side, anyway

Instead of a backup DM would a utility player not be better. It's gonna be tough to get someone to play 2nd fiddle to Lucas so how about someone who's a backup that can play left back, centre back and DM. Similar to what John o Shea use to do at United.

I think it's pretty unlikely we'll see any kind of plan with an emphasis on the long ball.

So when the gylf signs, I still think we need a backup to lucas, a class winger and backup striker...

I'd be happy going into the season with those changes. Maybe jay leaving and shelvey out on loan.

Agreed. I'm hoping (once we qualify for the groups) that there's very little overlap between our Europa/domestic cup starting XI and our week in week out Prem side. This'll require a new striker and DM to keep everyone fresh and all positions covered.

Bad; two players in positions that we're not especially short in and none of the required quality.

Very loose rumours from ‘quality’ outlets like the Mirror, Talksport, Caughtoffside and The Kenyan Daily Post of an interest in Benedikt Howedes from Schalke.

Good player..Surprised that he didnt start the earlier game for Germany as he can also play RB.However,Schalke have UCL right?Looks difficult then.
