So when we’re looking at bringing in new players we should consider players to fit in in the modell who’s used by Rodgers and who’s divided into zones. You can read more about the zones in this excellent piece:

Going through our squad as it stands today we’ll have some gaps to fill and we have a lot of players that can play a part in this setup.
Zone 1: Reina, Doni, Gulacsi
This will not be changed if all of them want’s to stay. Doni is a good backup that could get more gametime when we’re challenging in Europe League this season.
Zone 2: Agger, Skrtel, Coates, Carragher, Coady, Wisdom, Wilson
There could be some questionmarks about Carragher and Wilson. I’m more convinced about Coady and Wisdom taking a step up.
Zone 3: Lucas, Spearing
This zone will need to strengthen, Spearing needs to step up his game a lot if he’s going to stay. We need to bring in a good backup for Lucas that also challenge him to be on his toes. And with the amount of games next season we need to rest Lucas in some games.
Zone 4: Johnson, Kelly, Enrique, Robinson, Flanagan
I have high hope for Robinson next season so I don’t see any reason to bring in a new player for this zone. Maybe Flanagan should go out on loan to gain some experience to make further progression.
Zone 5: Gerrard, Adam, Henderson, Shelvey, Aquilani, Suso, Cole
Aquilani would fit in well in this system but I still think he prefers to live in Italy and he’ll be off to Milan or Fiorentina. Cole doesn’t fit in at Liverpool so he’s off to. Henderson and Shelvey fit’s in well in this system so do Suso. Gerrard will need to adjust a bit but he’ll do it and excel at it. Adam is used to this modell when playing at Blackpool so I really can see him stay. But still we could do with a new playmaker.
Zone 6: Suarez, Maxi, Downing, Kuyt, Sterling, Pacheco, Bellamy, Eccelstone
Suarez will be more suited to play in this system and he’s better starting on the wing then as a CF. Sterling knows this system already and it could be a huge season for him nextyear. Could Rodgers develop Pacheco like he did with Scott Sinclair? Questionmarks have to be made on Kuyt and Maxi since they both seems to want more gametime then we can offer. Downing and Eccelstone could go as well if Rodgers does’nt see him as a starting player. We need to bring in at least one or two new faces here and they need to be teamplayers as well as a good passer with great movement.
Zone 7: Carroll
This zone is we’re we need to get more choices in. I this zone we need a good finisher who has a good firsttouch and as well are a good passer with great movement. Carroll showing glimpses of that at the end of the season.
So what could we expect nobody knows for sure, thinking of the strategy that FSG want’s to use when buying players here’s my thoughts on who Liverpool should aim at.
For zone 3: Javi Martinez £20m or Banega £10m
For zone 5: Gylfi Sigurdsson, £7m or Rasmus Elm, £7m or keeping Aquilani
For zone 6: Two of Bellhanda £12m, Gaston Ramirez £16m and Hoilett £3m (compensation)
For zone 7: Luuk de Jong £12m
Cost between £44-67m
Migth leave: Cole, Aquilani, Kuyt, Maxi, Spearing, Pacheco, Eccelstone and Wilson
