Not sure how the Adebayor to spurs talks are going but 10 million fee is mentioned, would anyone want him here for that price?

It's his wages that are the problem

I'll be so annoyed if City or Chelsea get Cavani, I have admired him for a bery long time I think he would be lethal here and even if not in this transfer window then in another transfer window because chances are is he goes to another Prem Club he'll never cone here.

I think that's the biggest problem with this deal. If he was to go there I think he would take up a chunk of their wage bill and still have to take a wage reduction.
If Modric is to leave then there maybe budget free to bring him in but I don't know. Any idea what he is on at City? I've seen somewhere that the average wage at City is just over 80k a week

Adebayor ison 180k at City. Spurs are paying 80k of that. Wouldn't take him in a month of Sundays.

He only has a year or 2 max so city from previous cases will probably look to pay him off in exchange for a transfer fee.

Not a fan of Adebayor, massive wages, temperamental and has a habit of disappearing for half a season.

What the hell is wrong with City. Surely they dont need to pay players like him (or any player) THAT much. I guess it just shows you how much they've ruined the market...  >:(

Wonder what's happening on the Luuk De Jong front. One of those players that can be realistic targets for us.Of course,if he has a fantastic Euro12,that's one more name that we'd have to strike off. This inability to scout/wrap up deals before the Euros is going to cost us.

Think he's unlikely to play. Both van Persie and Huntelaar ahead of him in the pecking order.

It was a catch-22 for City when they were starting out with the new owners.

They were a mid-table club, so they had to pay huge wages to the likes of Santa Cruz, Adebayor, and Robinho to get them to come.  Then, once they did that, and they could attract the likes of Aguero and Silva, those players looked and said "yeah, if Adebayor is on 180k/week, I want 220k/week."  They dug their own grave, essentially, but they have enough money to float them due to the owners' huge bankroll.  FFP is obviously not going to do anything, so as long as the current owners stick around they'll be fine.

We will have been scouting him extensively and I doubt Twente would be too keen to sell him before the Euros anyway so we're not really missing out.

I thought they could only spend what they earn or something? Surely they would never be able to earn enough through titles/sponsorship to pay for those ludicrous wages?

City already circumvented the FPP's by the owners paying their own club something like 500m for sponsorship rights

Adebayor isn't the right player for you. He's another Suarez type, only very different style. Adebayor, like Suarez, needs a clinical finisher alongisde him. He worked insanely hard for us this season. He held the ball up magnificiently, worked the channels, brought others into play, won so much in the air, but his finishing is bad. Watching him and Suarez as a striker force would be painful, as they'd cause massive problems for any opposition, but miss so many chances.

Yeah just shows how toothless the FFP is going to be. Think if UEFA actually had the balls to properly implement it, it could of only been good for the game. The fact they did nothing about City shitting on their new rules shows it ain't going to make a blind bit of difference.
Shame cause when your paying players 220 grand a week plus massive signing on fees, it just makes a mockery of the sport. It's had a knock on effect all the way through the league, bubbles got to burst one day.

I always regret getting involved in any discussion about FFP because very few have actually read the rules.

Let me put it plainly - They haven't circumvented anything.

yeah but 100k to players is not a mockery right? face it, the game is fucked up and its not all down to manchester city. we ourselves are guilty of the ridiculous wages handed out which 'make a mockery of this sport'. how a paediatric surgeon earns 90,000 a year but gerrard earns 110 a week or whatever bollocks is ridiculous and embarassing IMO but thats life.

all city are doing are doing is an extreme version of what everyone in the top 5 or 6 teams per league are doing or would like to do. blaming city for the astronomical wages becoming even more astronomical.... .

city really haven't even affected the market that much. the transfer which fucked everything up was ronaldo for 70M. before then, all prices were mildly realistic except berbatov for 30M. we haven't helped with carroll for 35M. smaller clubs have shown they can still work absolutley fine and climb the league table. time our management put their hands up and say we havent scouted hard enough and we've simply not been good enough with managing the club's money when teams above us spend less and finish higher.

also although in the early years city made a lot of really crap buys (santa cruz etc.), recently they have been spending their money far more wisely and now they are a successful club established in the champions league and champions of england, they will slowly gain financial stability and although they might not ever equal out their initial outlay, players wages will come more into line with the the other top 3 clubs/league.

sorry if im being a bit aggressive. it is a bit unfair what city have done but i love them for simply fucking over united. dont wanna sound like a whiney manc afterall.

If we could bring in a two footed player capable of playing anywhere accross the middle like Nani can for United would bring us more goals from midfield.

Im thinking of Nicolas Gaitan but how much would he cost? Could he be a target?

This transfer window is going to be so key to the future of this club it is scary really. Get it wrong, and we really are cemented into the midtable.

It will be interesting to see what tactic our new manager goes with. Will they look to go out and really change the team to fit their style of play and philosphy? With the flop of last year such as Downing, Adam and Carroll, to a lesser extent, be given time to impress or will the manager make the decision to sell to help fund their own ideas?

It will be very interesting times.

No I agree 100k a week for playing a game is ridiculous but what City have done is pushed to an amount that is astronomical. Yeah they made some crap buys at first Santa Cruz being flavour of the month, but what they payed was stupid. But paying players a quarter of a million per week is fucking crazy and the FFP was supposed to make clubs stand on their own to feet while City got a rich relative to pay 500 million for sponsorship, probably even gave him the money to do it? City will never stand on their own two feet, Chelsea haven't managed it and their 10 years down the line from City.
Don't get me wrong I was dancing round my frontroom when they scored the two injury time goals to shut the other fuckers up.
I know the days when the likes of a Shankly or  a Clough will take unfancied clubs and turn them into Europes best, not by having a Russian gangster or Arab oil rich royal families who want toys no one else can have, but do it by building teams and making more out of them as a team than as individuals.
Buying your success seems to be what the way forward is, the sport I loved is slowly resembling American wrestling.
It was the top clubs greed that brought us the premiership, so i guess what we have now is the natural evolution of what happened when Sky invented a game called football or should we just call it soccer now, cause it doesn't resemble anything that I used to love about football.
I used to feel a part of the club, now I have very little in common with it apart from them wanting as much of my money as they can get. Even then I don't think match going supporters matter anymore, its the ones who pay Sky or ESPN, buy from the club shop on-line and live in far flung parts of the world, new money.
As for Man City not being to blame for stupid wages, 100k is one hell of a lot less 250k and that is being fed down to any club with aspirations of trying to achieve success.  But no City Aren't the devil incarnate, their just another team buying a place at the top instead of earning it. Hughes was always going to buy crap but the Italian has bought much more quality, suppose it shows City's true standing that they have to pay such stupid wages, then for some reason we gave Jole Cole 70/90 k a week but with the twats we had in charge, that's kind of understandable.

A little bit of information that I heard Ballague say last night on the Copa Del Rey final broadcast.

Llorente has one year left on his deal, and will leave it as late as possible to sign an extention because he is looking for a move to England.

There are alot of deals out there where CL football is not essential. One that interests me hugely is Stevan Jovetic of Fiorentina. Rafa was chasing him a few seasons ago but didn't have the finance to sign him. He has recovered well from his injury and has scored 14 league goals this season I believe.
Fiorentina were chasing Alberto last summer so if we are determined to sell him, we could perhaps offer him in a deal with Jovetic. Jovetic would be a quality signing, and if we decide to play 3 up front then two of those being Suarez and Jovetic would be very interesting. Especially if we were able to bring a third in who like those 2, could play all over the fron 3, as it would give us a very fluid and flexible strikeforce.

All ifs, and buts ofcourse.

He seems to have recovered from that very well this season, his most successful league goal scoring season of his career so far. I believe it was a cruciate injury he suffered yes? Alot of players have had that injury and returned from it. If it had been last summer I would have been worried also, but I am now less so due to him having come back this season and played very well.

I am very much a fan of having  more technical, fluid and interchangeable strikers, so a forward line like I said of, Suarez - New ST - Jovetic would be very interesting indeed.

He has played 27 and scored 14 but still would have concerns unless he was going for a very low fee but that's not the case as would cost £20m+ ?
But big plus is he is still only 22

20M for a player of his quality though is not actually that high in todays market, so I think it would be worth the gamble, certainly if we were to finance it through sales of other players. Like you said he is only 22, and he is already at a very high level, and will only get better. He would offer us another match winner which I believe is something we need to push ahead with in the summer, as right now we seem to be in a scenario most games where its Luis scores, or nobody does.
