Andy Carroll- no fan of his, well it's a love-hate thing- played well tonight but the good and bad of his role in the team we saw tonight. At 2 mins 30, or was it 6 mins plus, there was quickfire exchange of passes, and last pass on the left went to Carroll. It was laid into space for him by Maxi I think. Carroll stood where he was- expecting the ball to come to him. That was the bad. The good was his hold up play and flick ons. The inexplicable was his inability to head the ball from a cross to score. He has not scored a headed goal from a cross from open play this season. How is that possible? Lastly, if he plays at the front, defences know he's never going to make a run to get behind them. You've set the team up with a weakness essentially. I like Carroll but how do we incorporate him. When he plays with Luis, it is Luis who comes short and Andy stays up top. Kenny has to hold his hand up and say I made mistakes, and all managers make them but that not one of his signings has been an outstanding success is deeply worrying. Tonight Fabio Aurelio put in 4 better crosses than Enrique, who many rate, has all year. You can feel Fabio's crossing technique when he shapes to strike the ball. It has a beautiful curve. That is not a feeling you ever get when Enrique is about to cross. Fabio stays side on with the ball, as late as possible. It gives the cross shape. I pick Enrique not because he had a bad game but because he is viewed as one of the better signings. I want to drink hemlock.
