Roman will make a major play for him, but I reckon he'll be taking the sabbatical. So when Di Matteo is sacked a few months into next season, then Pep will be favourite.

But is the structure there at Chelsea to succeed? There's money, yes. But Roman has total control. He's shown no signs of willing to cede that power.

I don't think he'll come to Anfield when Kenny goes, but the structure here is certainly more suited to him.
Why wouldn't he want to come here? He's been praising our academy. He might be interested one day.

so Pep lose the title for the first time in his management career and a place in the CL final, then thought it is a bit too hard for him....hmmm comon go to Chelsea.  I would need to see if I can bet his sacking at Chelsea before he is even at the job

Pretty sure thats not the real reason he is taking a time out. For all we know he may just want to spend some time with his family, after all they've played pretty much near on 70 games all over the world for past 3 years.

So because I’ve got a different opinion than yourself you insult me? Your people skills need fine-tuning I would suggest. A very immature mentality do you think?

Your carrying on like Guardiola taught them how to play football. Messi, Iniesta and Xavi do not need to be told how to pass a ball, they are amazing players with or without the influence of Guardiola. Do you think Liverpool would have a better chance of winning the league with Messi, Iniesta and Xavi in the team or do we need Pep to manage them?

Roy inheriting Liverpool and Pep inheriting Barce... great comparison that.

Deserves his break.

The pressure on him at Barca is incredible, and unlike the pressure in any other job in football really. Not only is he tasked with maintaining the best in the world/best ever tag but he's got to do it with all of Catalonia breathing down his neck, and the rest of Spain willing him to fail, its not surprise at all to see it tell. Pep said all along he wasnt going to be there for too long.

Not going to lie, if Kenny left and we somehow managed to get Pep in (which we won't), I for one wouldn't be too unhappy about it.

Something was mentioned about his kids not recognising him anymore. It’s obviously hard being away from the family etc.

He's created one of the best teams ever. Of course you need good players for that, but Guardiola should take a great deal of credit.

Not surprised really, and if he wants to take a break from football and come back in a year or two, the Chelsea job becomes available once a year (on average) so he'll have a job ready to walk straight in to.

It's a shame. Really like him as a manager, intense and probably gives his all, but it's obvious that fatigue has caught up with him. If he has taken a one year break, hope he doesn't go to Chelsea because that bastard Abrahomvich will do it his all.

He has laid down a huge legacy for the successing manager (any guess?) as he is leaving the greatest team in the world, if not the best team ever behind. Pressure of the Barca job is going to be high and it's going to be a huge challenge now.

Personally think he'd love the Liverpool job. He won't get it as long as Dalglish is here and doing well. I'm okay with that.

I'd rather have a successful Dalglish over a successful anyone else in the world.

I believe there is probably a portion of self-imposed pressure there also.  He wants to succeed, be the best, be the best for FCB.  It's what helps the elite stay on top, that high level of mental tension.  But it has a strain on you.

Don't blame him at all for taking a break.

I don't think Guardiola will go to Chelsea.  In fact, I'd be shocked if he went there.  There would have to be major structural changes in that club for him to go there.

In this country I'd say us, United or Arsenal are better bets.

Good managers leaving jobs because they need a break is probably the saddest reason to see a good manager leave. It really makes you wonder what Pep and others like him could achieve if the pressure on them wasn't so great.

I think Rafa at Barcelona would be an unstoppable force. If he can get a team of their quality playing with the same pace we did under him they really would be the best team ever. I think when we were at are best under him we were the best footballing side in the world, so to combine that with the quality at Barca would be an awesome sight to behold. Plus I think he always had an answer for Mourinho in big games. If Barcas chiefs are smart I think they'll see this.

To a point, yes. But there is always the possibility of that pressure becoming too much (as with any job), and while a lot of the pressure is a direct consequence of their own success, it's still not nice to see it break them.

End of an era for Barcelona and for Guardiola me thinks. Not sure either will replicate the success they've had over the past four years. Maybe Guardiola will go back one day though.
I know what you mean. I really wish the Madrid born former Real Vallodolid, Osasuna, Tenerife, Extremadura, Valencia and Inter Milan manager stayed loyal and faithful to a foreign club that sacked him by never managing another club again. Burn him.

It's a fine line between enough pressure and too much.  Even this season, without consciously knowing, Guardiola & Barcelona probably didn't have the same motivation to win all before them as they have already done it.  Add that to the fact top opponents have been studying them for a few seasons now, there was always the possibility that they would not win the league and/or CL.

Dealing with the pressure is key, to save yourself being snowballed by the whole circus.  You have to have an out, some sort of release i.e. family, friends etc.

Good managers leaving jobs because they need a break is probably the saddest reason to see a good manager leave. It really makes you wonder what Pep and others like him could achieve if the pressure on them wasn't so great.

The Spanish and Italian leagues are a bit bonkers though. Have been for years, especially in relation to Barca and Real. Win the big trophies and you are king there, come second and you're gone. It's a ridiculous philosophy to live by, and the toll it takes on managers is clear to see ; something which we must do our utmost to avoid. When you have proven yourself, you are allowed to have the odd barren year, even a few consecutively, as long as you show you're still motivated for the job and work to get it right.

Guardiola will like it better in England if he comes, but sadly the league is changing more and more to reflect the other two.

Hope he doesn't go chelsea or either manc clubs anytime soon.

Hes a decent, humble, dignified guy and would tarnish his reputation if he went to an arrogant club with egomaniacs like Chelsea, as Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas did.

Hes more suited to us and I'm sure Henry and Werner will be monitoring his situation. Would be a huge project for him as he would have to rebuild our team but if we can hold on to key players like Suarez, Reina and Agger with some decent players this summer, we could tempt him in a years' time.
If he retires I'll eat my fucking cock.

Great anti climax for those expecting jizzihno....

All this talk of Guardiola going to Chelsea is weird.  The guy is the biggest proponent of the new wave of 'total football'.  If he went to Chelsea he would need several years to rebuild the squad and get them playing the type of football he would want (similar to what Luís André de Pina Cabral e Villas-Boas wanted to do).  Abramovic wouldn't give him that time.

So unless he's a mercenary who would just take the money, I can't see it.
