Am sitting here watching lfctv and trying to explain to my 4yr old why today is such a sad, sad day but he has the attention span of an ant and doesn't understand yet.

RIP JFT96. YNWA!!

But he will one day, keep dripping it in and you'll suddenly find one day he will come out with something and you'll realise he understands

Had a ticket for the Leppings Lane end but broke my ankle playing footy a few days before the match so couldn't go. My mate's brother had my ticket, and was one of the 'lucky' ones to survive.

May justice be done for the 96 lost to us, and their families and friends who have suffered so much since that terrible day.

Rest in peace.

Goodbye

Goodbye my old friend, I’ll see you in Heaven one day still wearing red.
The Kop will be a sadder place without you, though quieter it has to be
said!
I can’t believe your dying before me, where’s the help that you need?
I mean we’re only at a footy match mate, maybe no trust do we breed.

I don’t think it’s my turn today fella; maybe God wants the better man.
I’m not the type to say my prayers, but I’ll say one for you when I can.
My coach home will carry your empty seat; I think it could be one of few.
And Heaven will be an even better place now for having the likes of you.

Mind you, you were always a bit of a tight sod, now you’ll see the match for
free!
So I when I meet up with you in Heaven, will you save a decent spec for me.
Until that day arrives what I am supposed to do without my very best mate.
I did all I could for you today, but sometimes for the best God’s unable to wait.

Don’t Go

Please don’t go, a young life should never end like this.
Please try and hang on, don’t make this my final kiss.
What do I say to your loved ones, your brothers, sisters
and so?
Can you still even hear me, if you can, please don’t go.

Please don’t go, life should never have to end in this way.
Don’t let these whispered words be the last I have to say.
Don’t leave me, can you hear the desperation in my voice.
Who above makes these decisions, why oh why this choice?

Please don’t you dare go, a whole life you have still in store.
If God does decide to take you, then he couldn’t ask for more.
But please don’t go I don’t want to speak these words in vain.
I can’t go home without you; I can’t lose you to the Leppings
Lane

Respect Mike.

Hillsborough – Why Time Doesn’t Always Heal

Sunday April 15th marks the 23rd anniversary of the Hillsborough Disaster.

Unfortunately, there are still a great many people – educated, usually-intelligent people – who remain ignorant about what actually happened that day. When I say “ignorant”, I include all those who continue to believe the tide of lies propagated by a certain publication. Lies which then became “truth” in the public consciousness, simply because they were printed in big letters and circulated millions of times on the front page of a newspaper.

For that reason, it makes me fume when I watch those same people roll their eyes and say “oh are people in Liverpool still going on about Hillsborough? Can’t they give it a rest? It was soooo long ago….”

The issue of Hillsborough will never “rest”, not while there is still so much misinformation changing hands amongst those who can’t be bothered to educate themselves. Not while there are still individuals and groups who refuse to take responsibility and are held to account for what they did (and didn’t) do, that day. Not while so many lives remain suspended in a hellish state of trauma and despair, largely forgotten by the rest of the country, the rest of the world.

For these reasons, and many others, it is more important than ever to press home the real truth about what happened on Saturday 15th April 1989.

The truth is that the South Yorkshire Police deployed a unit of officers unqualified and untrained to operate at an FA Cup Semi Final.

The truth is that Liverpool fans were herded into two central pens that were far too small to hold them, as two other pens stood virtually empty either side.

The truth is that, from the control room, senior police officers could see a crush forming, but refused to direct fans into the adjacent pens.

The truth is that the highest ranking officer that day – Superintendent David Duckenfield – personally ordered the opening of an entrance gate, which sent 2,000 more fans into the same tunnel that was already full.

The truth is that there was no stampede. Fans were suffocated in a slow and agonising inch-by-inch crush, every second of which was witnessed by those present in the control room.

The truth is that it was the police, not fans, who prevented ambulances attending the scene.

The truth is that both Liverpool and Forest fans engaged in acts of breathtaking heroism, trying to save lives, as police stood by and did nothing.

The truth is that nobody urinated on the bodies of the dead.

The truth is that nobody stole from the bodies of the dead.

The truth is that neither alcohol, nor ticketless fans, were factors in the disaster.

The truth is that The Sun editor, Kelvin MacKenzie, knowingly orchestrated a smear campaign in a deliberate and cynical ploy to sell newspapers.

The truth is that Kelvin MacKenzie has admitted to this, yet refuses to apologise.

The truth is that more than 96 people died as a result of the Hillsborough Disaster.

The truth is that thousands more remain traumatised and forgotten.

The truth is that the persons directly responsible for the disaster walked away with big fat pensions and were never held to account for their actions.

The truth is that the government and South Yorkshire Police tried to cover up what really happened that day.

The truth is that they failed.

Amazingly, there is a whole generation of people who have no idea what happened at Hillsborough.

For those, and for others who would like to know the real facts, please take the time to visit Hillsborough Context And Consequences  where you can find an excellently laid out, easy to read summary of the actual truth, together with Hillsborough – 20 Questions, which still need answering.

Fundraising to help pay for counselling, treatment, and numerous ongoing court cases related to getting justice for Hillsborough survivors and the bereaved, remains an important mission for many football fans, regardless of which club they support, because they know that this could have happened to any one of them.

For more information on how to help, please visit the Hillsborough Justice Campaign or pop into their shop opposite the ground the next time you’re at Anfield.

96 men, women and children went a football match one Spring afternoon 23 years ago, and never came home. In the years since, too many more have taken their own lives, unable to cope with what they experienced that day. 1989 might seem like a long time ago to some people, but only to those who have had the luxury to live a life in between. For many others, the horror of Hillsborough happened yesterday, is happening today, and will continue to happen tomorrow, the next day, and every day to come.

Time does not always heal, especially when “The Truth” is entrusted to the custody of liars.

So when you hear people asking why Hillsborough is still such a big deal, after “all this time”, don’t just give them one reason, give them ninety-six:-
