Ye I would be happy with that as long as gerrard adopts the role Shevey had tonight and tries to support Suarez instead of picking the ball of the defenders feet

If we're playing a 3 I'd prefer Shelvey, Henderson and Gerrrard - and then in the future Lucas, Shelvey and Henderson. He played really well last night and some of his passing was top drawer. He has a big future here and he also 100% has goals in his game. I could see him scoring 10+ a season no problem. Amazing how developed he is for a just turned 20 year old.

Good to always see him up and around Carroll giving him support and picking down the headers that Andy win. Even created two chances for himself by winning the ball and storming forward, one of them was a goal. Great talent.
If he was Dudek would've saved it...and there would be no film.

We all know he has the talent but what sets him apart is his attitude and arrogance. He just knows he belongs here and nothing seems to faze him. He tries the audacious pass and may give it away but give me that any day over someone who opts to play it simple all the time

Play Gerrard as one of the 3 in front of shelvey, henderson and spearing.

I'd love to see him in the middle on Saturday. I think Henderson will miss out due to the effort he put in last night.

And play Stevie on the right? Has he got the legs to cover Baines and get up and down that Wembley pitch?

Gerrard should and will play.

I would start him and Shelvey in a midfield 3, along with Spearing. I would go for a front 3 of Downing, Suarez and Kuyt.

I'd be wary of both Gerrard and Shelvey in the middle. One or the other.

Agree with that. Thing is, Gerrard on the right benefits Carroll rather than Suarez as the main striker. Suarez on the left? Its a good problem to have though.

I think Jonjo is a proper footballer. He has almost everything to his game, a great touch, one good foot, the other decent, an eye to spread the ball wide, he isnt afraid to shoot from distance.  I think his emergence has triggered something in Henderson too, maybe he feels threatened and he's upped his game, but I do think that they are good players and like to pass to one another.

Its a good partnership thats emerging here, and long may that continue.

No I'd play Stevie on the left, against Hibbert. Suarez and Henderson can help Johnson against Baines, Carroll up top.

People need to remember he's 19 years old. He's got many many years to develop and get chances. He had a good game last night but he does show his immaturity at times, and in a game like an FA cup semi vs the likes of Everton (Who frankly are having a good season for them) you can't drop Gerrard for this nor expect Jonjo to play.

He's got some very good sides to his game. The Gerrard comparisons for me are correct. He has the energy, the desire, and the bollocks. The ability will be seen in time, but like i said, he's 19 years old, there's no rush. I think he'll get plenty of game time in the league before the end of the season, and then next year perhaps see more and more.

I see Jonjo's strengths as a player but there's something about him, his presence on the pitch. You always know when he's playing because he goes looking for the ball trying to make things happen. When he picks the ball up, his first thought is "Look forward" which many of our new signings rarely do, their first thought is "5 yard pass back to whoever passed me the ball". At times this season about 20 minutes into games about the likes of Adam or Henderson, you wouldn't know they were playing! You can't coach confidence, and Jonjo has this in abundance. I just hope his progression continues at this rate because if it does we'll have one hell of a player.

"When you walk through a storm, hold your head up high". Bad advice, I met a bloke once who'd looked up during a hailstone storm, took his eye out, blind now.

That lad is 20 and is starting to dominate in midfield and shows a lot of composure. I wonder if a 20 year old was playing like that in the Arsenal or Utd midfield the pundits and papers would be all over him. He's good enough to start now so he's not one for the future, if you're good enough you're old enough.

You know the real difference between Shelvey and Henderson. When JonJo gets the ball his immediate thought is to turn and drive forward a la Gderrard, Henderson's immediate thought is to pass it back to safety a la Ray Wilkins. I much prefer a midfielder like JonJo :-). I love him in a Bromance sort of a way you understand ;-)

And you wouldn't want them to be the same; that would be useless.

Hendo and Shelvey are different players with the common thread being both young and have good technique. Along with Lucas they can make an awesome midfield.
Would love the 19th; but would love even more to see a fan owned LFC.

Some of the movement and impulsiveness is similar aye, still reckon Stevie has / had that extra yard of acceleration from a standing start than Jonjo, but there's definitely similar attributes in their lockers.

Stevie had an extra 3yards of acceleration now hes got a yards and a half advantage

quality, confident. maybe a bit too confident if thats possible. if he keeps his headup he puts bellamy clean through , instead shoots on his left from 30 yards. will come with maturity, he will learn. very exciting prospect. i worry about his lack of accelration / pace though. then again if you got the brains it doesnt matter too much in his position and with the way we play,

He's only 19 years old, but he looks more mature and ready to play in the premier league than players much older.

He's English but only cost us Ł1.7 million.

He looks a bit like Voldemort.

He's been quietly a very smart signing, thanks Rafa. If he played for say United, Arsenal or Tottenham, you'd be reading more about him in the media. However our poor form has stolen poor Jonjo's headlines. Him, Henderson and Sterling give me hope for the future.  I just hope when Charlie Adam returns Shelvey doesn't disappear off on loan or warm the bench again.

You know the real difference between Shelvey and Henderson. When JonJo gets the ball his immediate thought is to turn and drive forward a la Gderrard, Henderson's immediate thought is to pass it back to safety a la Ray Wilkins. I wish people would stop making everything Henderson versus Shelvey. Apart from being young and English, they've really nothing in common and play different roles in the midfield. Positionally Shelvey is more of an attacking midfielder than a true centre midfielder for me (like Gerrard yes). But not everyone can try and be Steven Gerrard, other types of players are important to the team too.  We should be happy we have both.

If this boy receives the right coaching and works hard over the next few years, he will be a great player.

I like that we are giving him chances to play.  One of the things that will stop his development is if he doesn't play often enough now as he is already a good player.

In the games I've seen Jonjo play for us this season, I have not been too convinced.  I thought that he gave away too many senseless free kicks, was too ambitious or innacurate with his passing and seemed lost at times.  I have to admit though he played exceptionally last night.  Seeing him play off Carroll he looked impressive and always seemed to be aware of what is going on around him.  Gutted we went down to 10 men because I would have loved to see him play that role for the whole 90 minutes.  When we did go down to 10 men he worked his socks off.  Doubt he will start on Saturday but if he does come on, play him off the striker so he can get involved and show his capabilities.
Shelvey will become top class, mark my words... Infact quote me on that.
