Shelvey looks really good here. Intelligent play, good passing and movement

He's the best player on the pitch, just as he has been the past two games.  He looks very, very promising.

Mad mad half. Im sure Pepe has consoled Doni and told him it happens to the best of us.

Maxi has to start every game to the end of the season. Shown more skill and desire to score than Carroll, Downing and Henderson combined. Love that guy! Shelvey doing a job and Craig Douglas Bellamy doing alright. But the goal we conceded was poor marking. Need to control the middle like we did in the first half.

Harsh on Doni in the sense that he misses the semi final through no real fault of his own. But we can only wish Jones well and hope he warms his gloves adequately for wembley.

Flanagan had a poor game, he will learn though.

Fucking gutted for Doni. A fair few keepers have done it and got away with it but it's a red by the letter of the law. One of those, the referee obviously didn't want to give it, but there was no way our lads were going to get back.

Shelvey and Bellamy look sharp. Johnson is a cut above any of our other full back options.

Maxi, what can you say? Another game and he'll be our best goalscorer in the league...

Flanagan had a poor game. Could well have been sent off and was more or less responsible for Doni's red. It's part of the package with a young player. The important thing is if/how he can bounce back from it and learn from his mistakes.

Thought their goal was soft. We gifted them that. Too many gifts lately. Other than that, I kind of like what I see from the team. Big task for them now in the 2nd. We can expect Olsson to attack Henderson and naturally aim for Yakubu. I wonder how long we are going to stick with our players. And who do we bring off/on? Aurelio, with Johnson to RB and Henderson back to CM? Would expect one from Maxi and Bellamy to get subbed.

You can nip and pick all day, but people need to take their rose tinted glasses off, if they think that wasnt a red.

I'm comparing it to the Arsenal keeper's foul at Anfield that led to our missed penalty. You know, the one where Suarez was clean through.

This referee, as with just about every other ref we've had this season, is a c*nt. Nothing less than a c*nt. How can he let David Dunn away with not even a yellow for going in with studs showing, then less than 2 minutes later he gives Maxi a card for a far lesser offence? And as for the sending off, don't even get me started.

The refs, proud supporters of Anyone But Liverpool all season long. I hope that regardless of the result Kenny rips into this spineless prick at full time, this is getting beyond a fucking joke. Just as we start to guild some momentum, just as we start to grow in confidence, whooosh, up pops the ref, right on cue, flashing cards and fucking it all up. He's given Blackburn a license for thuggery and fuck all for us. I can't go to games like this any more because it would be hard for me to resist the urge to run on the pitch and lamp the fuckers.
Yeh joking? Ref is actually having a good game. He should have sent flanno off but decided to give benefit of doubt to a young kid. Thats great refing, common sense and something we should praise. God knows we get enough shite refs.

what planet are you on? Did you not see Dunn's tackle then Maxi's a couple of minutes later? Regardless of the score, the ref has been atrocious, again. I think you should the one getting called blind.

Agree the ref has been atrociously inconsistent but its not why we are down to 10 men and playing desperately.

What a crazy half. Started so well Maxi popping up at the back post time and time again putting us 2-0 up then the madness.

Feel bad for Flanagan, not a good game for him atall tonight and hopefully it doesn't affect his confidence too much. Devastated for Doni, wasn't much he could do with the pass really, was never gonna beat Hoillett to it and he had to make a challenge which he did.

Well done to Jones for the penalty save, can tell that was huge for him and it was a great start to the game for him, cant blame him for their goal as it was simply poor marking from a number of players, delivery was perfect and made it easy for them to score.

Hendersons been great at right back, was brilliant seeing him get right into their half and even block the attempted clearance at the byline. We are holding on well but we need to try and get the ball out and retain posession, obviously alot easier said than done but we are looking so much better with ten men when we keep the ball and keep moving forward in the triangles.

refs been inconsistent yet again but long gave up hope of that changing.

we need another goal to give ourselves more of a cushion, this 45 is definately going to be hard

I've said for a long time that a penalty is enough punishment. A red too is harsh, especialy for a goalkeeper when you are pretty much always going to be the last man.

I wonder if it might be a decent idea to bring on Suarez to run at their right back. He's on a yellow and on a slippery pitch, it might even up the numbers.

I just posted the exact rule. Doni didn't hold the player down like it states, he mis-timed the tackle.

Agree with the calls for Fabio; Jonjo's been excellent but he would probably be the one to make room.  Put Aurelio in the middle of the 4-4-1 and let him pass it about.

For their goal, on looking at it it's really Carroll who's let Yakubu alone.  You'd never guess it at the end because he's 5 yards away when he scores, but he was the one originally standing right next to Yakubu when the play started.  It's just that he ran diagonally for some reason, leaving Yakubu all alone to tuck it away.

Actually, there's no consistancy on that ruling at all, which is why you see more goalies _not_ getting a red for it, when going for the ball. Lots of refs seem to consider it a "double punishment", and lets them off... which is really the fair thing to do, considering a goalie can be red carded for almost anything except punting the ball outside the box.

How many "coincidences" does it take for it no longer to be regarded as coincidences... :butt

To be honest, dont know what the ref has done wrong. Booking Maxi maybe? Probably more to do with how lard arsed Dunn fell on him.

He could have sent Flanagan off but made a decent decision. Flanno fucked up for the pen but it was a pen and a sending off. Flanagan will learn. Feel sorry for Doni.

Refs done little wrong to be fair.
