We were awful before he came on today.  But that isn't always the case.

It isn't Carroll's fault that he finds himself at the end of 60 yard missiles from our defence. To his credit, he does an admirable job of getting those balls under his control and laying them off to a teammate. Dalglish needs to utilise a system where the midfield gets as close to the attack as possible so that Carroll has enough runners to latch on to his flick-ons. And for that to happen, we need to start playing a higher line. Today was baffling how deep we played for the most part. And that was without Carragher in the side.

The problem is people seeing Carroll as part of the problem, when all in all, the lad is simply suffering from his teammates being let go scot-free by Kenny when they keep taking the easy way out by pumping long balls to him instead of trying to make him the focal point of our attacks.

Most people in this world are tits. The fact they have an allegiance with Liverpool Football Club doesn't change that.

That goal off the line, and the build up to that. That was pretty decent football. Just 'cos he's big doesn't mean we like Stoke. When he plays, Suarez gets the change to pull or drop deeper, and that's when his creativity comes into play.
It wouldn't be Liverpool if we didn't do it the hard way... ask Gareth Southgate.

Still don't get this. Was our football in the first half somehow better than when he came on?

exactly.... if carroll keeps putting in performances like that on a regular basis, i would happily go with any style of play that's compatible with that. I, for one, was MUCH more entertained by our second half play than that in the first half.. atleast in terms of desire if nothing.

Got bile rising up my throat right now, but not a bit of that is for Andy Carroll. Big game player, and if he puts that much heart into future games, he can be a real asset to this side.

For me, only Andy, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson and Gerrard really turned up for the battle, which is pretty horrendous for an FA Cup final that could have saved our season. I don't have a problem with Suarez 'cause he was totally up there on his own for much of it, and looked lively when Carroll arrived and made such a phenomenal impact on those around him.

Andy comes out of this game having earned a huge amount of respect for the sheer will to win he showed, eclipsed everyone else on that pitch. Well done man.

Hope Andy gets a surprise run out for England on the summer to keep momentum up for him. Yes, risk of injury but would be a good boost for him

I was critical of Carroll. Today he showed some ridiculous ability. If he can continue this form, i'd be happy for him to stay at Liverpool.

he finally seemed to find his fitness around january/february. and he's been showing great signs of doing what he does best, i really do expect him to absolutely kick on next season, he sohwed great feet for the goal aswell which is another thing he's improved on.

Our best passing move of the game came from Carroll bringing the ball down, a few neat passes and then him being played through on goal.

Its a myth that we dont play good football with him on the pitch. We do.

And its also more effective.

Cos we play like Barca otherwise?

We dont turn in to Stoke when he comes on the pitch. We play better football with him on it.

He was brilliant today but we would never play that direct & with so many bodies further up the pitch week in week out, the situation dictated it. After a performence on such a stage a good time to sell this summer & get some more suited strikers.

Its only a myth when Carra isn't on the pitch.

I agree completely.  Carroll is going to be a beast, and to all you who say we just hoofed the ball to for the second half, that's bullshit.  Yeah, we did some, and he won every damn thing passed to him, too.  You don't have to play like Stoke to get the best out of him.

Proved today that he's a Liverpool player. He's going nowhere, he's being supplemented with better players, we can afford to get another striker.

Disagree completely with this. Carroll showed today the player he can become for Liverpool. I certainly hope he sticks it out and keeps producing performances like that one. Let's not forget he's generally been on an upward curve over the last few months.

a thing i've noticed in previous scenarios like that i.e. carroll having the ball at his feet inside the box and going for a little too many touches, he used to scuff it or givee too much time for the defender to organise himself. This time though what he did with the ball when the ball came to his feet was absolutely spot on and i think that speaks volumes about his confidence and belief in himself at the moment.

I hope so. He was unplayable today.

Just get a poacher like KJH into the side, play him alongside Carroll. Get Suarez playing in a free role behind the two of them and watch them rip defences apart.

Before the game I thought their centre backs would ne happier facing him than our smaller, nippier forwards but he was an absolute beast. Well in big man.

What do we do with Carroll now?
« Reply #435 on: May 5, 2012, 07:42:04 PM »
In the last month or so, he's played consistently well and scored a few important goals. I have no doubt that he's earned another season at least. But has he shown enough to be in the first 11 next season? Does the change in tactics needed to implement him mean that he'll have to be a second option? Will we buy a striker with a better record, and put Carroll in the Kuyt camp, starting 15-20 matches and being a regularly used substitute? I hope it doesn't happen, but will we sell him and reinvest in a another striker?

He's shown that when he's up for it and is the focal point, he's pretty damn hard to handle. But he's also shown that when things aren't going for him he's ponderous on the ball, has the balance of a drunk fat man doing an impression of a mountain goat and can be reluctant to get into goalscoring positions.

What do you think we will do with him from here on in, and what would you do if you were in Kenny's shoes?
