Thought the Open would of been the most prestigious to win.

What makes the Masters so special - have only watched a couple of Masters?

It would be great if Sergio could win, always the nearly man, it could really kick-start his career.

The Open is great.  Which is the most prestigious to a professional I suppose would be personal preference.

In the case of the Masters, it's all about the course.  Playing the tournament at Augusta National every year makes it great.

Are any streams showing live golf at the moment? The firstrowsports one just seems to be chewing things over.

Rose on a bit of a move to -3 and Poulter is -2 ...Woods gained two strokes on the day and lost them again so unless he can get it to at least Evens he can forget it

It's the second biggest tournament in Golf after the Ryder cup.

It's the biggest of the four majors. So yeah, you might say it's the equivalent of the Champions League.
What the hell!
The Masters is magnificent. But it's the second biggest tournament behind The Open, and always will be. The Ryder Cup is a team event so can't be compared (my favourite sporting event along with The Ashes)

An American player would probably consider the US Open and the Masters as their priority. Hard to say which may take preference. The non-American player would probably be partial to the Open and then the Masters. The Ryder Cup has become my favourite but has only grown in mass popularity in fairly recent years with Europe's emergence.
That's actually not true, for most Americans to win 'The British' is the ultimate.

Not even close. For Americans The Masters is number one followed by The US Open. When it's played at St. Andrews it might move ahead of The US Open, but most years it's third. Most Americans wouldn't even know what tournament The Open Championship is.

Aghhh me arse!!

The Brits will say The British Open.
The Yanks will say The Masters, US Open or anything American at that.

In reality The Irish Open pisses all over them ;)

Absolutely untrue. Sure, many Americans don't rate the tournament but most do. It's the ultimate test of golf and they know it. When you say 'Most Americans' though it looks like you're talking about fans. I'm talking about players.

Fine. Just ask the likes of Tom Watson, Stewart Cink, Ben Curtis, Todd Hamilton, Mark Calcavecchia, John Daly, Mark O'Meara, Jason Leonard, the list goes on and on and on.

And yes, I have deliberately left off Duval, Nicklaus and Woods. Though it's entirely possible I should have included them.

Oh do go and boil your head. Silly reaction to me giving my opinion. Which happens to be an informed one based on, wait for it, what those American golfers have actually said.

Anyway, back to the Masters, which by the way I think is magnificent before anyone doesn't read my original post on this topic and assumes I'm putting it down.

I'm referring to all Americans (fans, golfers, commentators, golfer's family); it's not close. The Masters is easily number one. I don't think anyone doesn't rate the "British;" they just don't rate it as highly as The Masters. For instance, I heard an interview with Nick Watney the other day where he listed the tournaments he would most want to win in this order: The Masters, US Open, Open Championship. I think that is typical for most American golfers with the order of the two Open's possibly being switched for some. I'm highly confident that The Masters would be a runaway winner in a poll of American golfers, though. I've been lucky enough to meet a couple pros and they both talked about Augusta like it was a Mecca for golfers.

I'm not so sure. My late father knew a lot of pros (most of them at one time) and I have met quite a few.

Sorry but Bob Bubka said on Talksport without hesitation that the Open was the best golf tournament bar none - so that's one American who flys against the grain.

Was watching on Sky but can't do with Montgomerie giving his insight, might try the Beeb tonight.

What I would say however is that Augusta holds more prestige then the tournament itself. Obviously The Open has some sort of course relationship with St.Andrews, but if you took the masters and played it elsewhere it would not be held in half the regard it does at the moment.

Bogey on the last, +4 for the hole over the 3 days. Very costly. He only ever wins from way off the pace though, so he's not in a bad position.

-2 today through 16, level for the tournament. Good effort for his first Masters, can see him shooting a low one tomorrow.
