Look at Puyol trying to set up a basketball type screen. Giving a free for the pull is retarded because it is a tiny fraction of what is happening in the box which the referee has chosen to focus on.

Or as others have said, soft as fuck!
Yep. Six of one and half a dozen of the other, or whatever its called

My first thought it was a Pen, what was Nesta doing very poor marking, & that was the first foul, before Puyol's foul.

Definite penalty, can't see how it's being argued. Nesta is dragging out of Busquets well before Puyol goes near him. If that's not given against one of ours people would be complaining like fuck on here.

Love this Pizza Hut Half Time show.

Trance music over the highlights. Sky should take note.

Warren Barton really gets on my tits. Tend to agree more with Wynalda.  :P

No they shouldn't, if the ball is coming straight to you and it's because you pulled down that you didn't get to it, fine. Not like that one. The ball was going nowhere near them. According to the rule book it is a pen but that's why it's hardly given, because they don't tend to be anywhere near the ball. Maybe the rules should be refined to point this out.
Nesta has a firm hand of Busquet's shirt, Nesta does not leave him run anywhere near the ball as he pulls him back by his shirt, he completely stops his run. Busquets even puts his hand up to notify the ref, Nesta still refuses to leave go. It's a penalty. Aand it should be. Just because it's not commonly given doesn't make it any less of a penalty. And if it was given more often, shirt pulling would definitely be reduced.

If they did start taking it more seriously, it'd be interested to see what would happen with us, Skrtel can be bad bad for it but up the other end we'd be getting bucketloads from shirt pulling on Carroll.

Warren Barton is "delighted" with the call. I must admit, I would be too if it actually helped to change anything about the wrestlemania that goes on in the box during our matches.
The one most important thing that we all must remember, in case it slipped our mind, is this club is much more important and bigger than anybody. I'll never forget that and anybody that does is being a wee bit irresponsible and stupid I think because the club is more important than any one individual. The Club is, The Club.

Would this not be a major plus to ref's properly implementing the rules? Thought it was a brave call by him and spot on.

Don't get me wrong, I agree with the decision but the fact is, it will happen 100 times before another ref calls it. Lack of consistency pisses everyone off really.

I don't think we would, and I know I for one certainly would not. I've watched our defenders get away with the same thing in our own penalty area enough times to know not to ask for reverse calls in our favor at the other end.

Should it be a penalty? I'd say more obstruction, you're impeding the player getting to the ball with no intention of playing it yourself.

And to be fair, giving free kicks would have a more sensible effect into stamping it out rather than giving 12 penalties a game.

Whatever he was pulled back but let's be honest, if Skrtel was done for it next week we'd be up in arms. Ref chose the wrong game to make a point in.

Carlton Cole has discovered the word 'Alluded' today, as he can't stop saying it.

Footballers so prone to it

remember Robbie Fowler being interviewd and he mustve said 'As I said before' when saying things he clearly had not said before about 10 times in 3 minutes. It was ridiculous

Then you have Gerrards 'Yeah of course' at the start of every sentence

And Rooney and the word Obviously must be on the stock market

Berlusconi's a c*nt though. Poetic justice, typically Italian style, if the score remains the same and they go out.
In Holland, they don't say they are developing players - they say they are developing future coaches.

Christ you can see Sergio being hailed back well before Puyol goes near Nesta. It's a clear Peno, all day long.

Specifically because the same thing had been attempted from one of the previous corner and Nesta knows what is going on. ffs, Puyol rugby tackles Nesta!

This is the crux of it. Whether or not you think calls like this should be made, a second leg CL quarterfinal between two giants, level scoreline, is not the time to award a penalty that will have massive implications towards the final result.

Well now that a precedent has been set at what is allegedly the highest level of football, it will be implemented into the lower leagues - like the PL.
robbie keane got a pen for the same thing at the '02 WC, after uefa made loads of noise about how refs would blow for pens in such cases.
but it didn't last long.

Kuipers always does it, see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8647m57yvfg (1:49)

They should have picked a different ref then. If it's a penalty, it's a penalty.

Refs should not pick and choose in which games to enforce the rules, they should give it no matter how big the match.
The only way to stamp it out is to give penalties in big games and make sure other refs follow suit.

The only thing I would not be comfortable about is the UEFA/FIFA directives to enforce certain rules in certain tournaments and certain matches.

No. As I said, it harms the integrity of the competition. The proper way to handle it is for UEFA to make a public statement in June or July, very explicitly, that this sort of foul WILL be called in the box. That way no one can say it was a soft call, because everyone was warned.
