To everyone who said he wouldn't be double-marked in the premier league (me included): He was. In his second game.

Wigan double-marked him as well.

What are you talking about!?!? Kelly's crossing is amazing..just cuz he miscues a few doesnt mean he cant cross..one of our best chances tonight came from a Kelly cross..stop judging a players ability on his contribution in the last 5 mins of the match!!
More tongue in cheek comment than anything else, however, Kelly's crossing is not amazing. Still has plenty of work to do on that front. I think you will find that when Kelly moved up the pitch because of shit bricks inability to get in the game the attempts he made were rubbish. He either rushed them or they were just pants. On the other hand 2 or 3 opportunities for Sterling to cross and they were 'all' perfect.

Yes yes I know, Sterling is an out and out winger, but clearly Kelly wants to develop that side of his game. Thats how you cross Kelly.  ;)

Wrong on two counts. He didn't give himself a ten match ban. And this thread is about calculating the ban not about selling Suarez. In the spirit of your post I'm giving you a ten day ban for detailing the thread. It's completely out of proportion but you did it to yourself. I take it you won't be asking for it to be reduced.

getting a little bit excited here aren't we? the reaction to him coming off the bench was nothing short of embarrassing, let him have a full season in the first team before we are all wetting ourselves over him

Bit of encouragement for a 17 year old is embarrassing? I wouldn't mind if every player got that kind of reception coming on.

Sorry, this is bullshit.

With the access to reserve team football as it is, any Reds fan worth their salt knows how good this lad already is, and can be.

Lets boo him onto the pitch next time and see how that works out, eh...   ::)

Don't think he singled out to be double marked. As has been said he's come on very late in the game when the opposition are getting on their coach home whuch is usually parked on the 18 yard box. That said he still looks lively, just like the Wigan game. Think thats all we'll see from him now till next year. Cant Fucking wait.

so what do you think of the rest of the young lads who started, getting booed? middle ground needs to be found at anfield atm, as a set of supporters we like to put players on pedestals far earlier than its deserved, everyone around me thought it was a bit much, the lads done what he's done at under 18 level, nothing else, steven gerrard doesn't get a reaction like that anymore! needs to be put in perspective

Fucking hell. You're complaining because a player got too much support?

Of course people are going to be excited, he's a very promising player who we haven't seen a lot of.

Maybe you would prefer he got fuck all reception, he were clapped for ever decent pass, cross and good movement. It's called encouragement, what will just add to his experience.

Get a fucking grip. He is 17 years old.

For someone like this who is going to make mistakes and have bad games eventually you create a warm atmosphere for him. We all know what crowd hostility or even just being ignored can do to players of his type. No groaning, applaud him when he does something well and he won't be afraid of making mistakes.

he won a free kick, put a ball down the keepers throat and passed the ball back to either skrtel or coates a few times, if anyone else did that the shit would hit the fan

btw i don't agree with booing or any of the other collective negatives

Why the fuck do we clap and stand up for a new signing, after all what have they ever achieved at the club.

It's called a warm welcome, settle a few nerves. You seem to take issue with that, lacking in common sense maybe? I don't have time for those who boo or bitch all game rather than support, so yeah I will give you that. But moaning when Jordan plays a stray pass does nothing for confidence, if you really take issue with welcoming a 17 yr old bright prospect onto the pitch then I suggest you give your head a bit of a wobble. Because it's fucking stupid.

Put it into perspective: in both of his short cameos as a Liverpool first team player, he's come on and looked like one of the best players on the pitch. He's got past players, put good service into the box and made runs in behind their defence, which our disgustingly un-creative midfield (bar Gerrard) seem content to largely ignore.

He's 17 and still developing physically and mentally and it's yet to be seen whether he can produce this in longer periods of time. The signs are all there, but we shouldn't get over-excited yet. Excited, yes. Should he be starting games yet? Probably not. Would I start giving him more and more minutes? Absolutely yes.

I think when a young player comes into the game and plays well, you can tell, because the professionals look to rough them up. We did it with Frei and Kaca, and they to Sterling. Just need to be careful that we don't leave him out there to be bullied by the senior pros too much.

I certainly advocate him playing more minutes though. Also, yes, we have a damn fine player on our hands potentially.

its my opinion, i don't recall spearing getting that in his first appearance or shelvey, robinson or flanagan, if your resting your hopes on a 17 yo i suggest you take your head for a wobble, it won't be long after he has a sticky patch that the crowd will get on his back like they do with the rest of the side

to be honest I'd much, much rather have him on our bench for the cup final than 3 defenders (or, not to name names, some of our other wingers).  Not that I'd expect him to actually play, but who knows.

Yeah resting my hopes on him starting and turning Chelsea over. Welcoming a young lad on the pitch is resting my hopes on him. Fucking clueless. Gives him 6 months to settle in and no doubt it will be you on his back giving him shit, you will be if you posts in here are anything to go by. Enjoy that opinion, it's the most pathetic shit I have read on here tonight anyway.

getting a little bit excited here aren't we? the reaction to him coming off the bench was nothing short of embarrassing, let him have a full season in the first team before we are all wetting ourselves over him

ridiculous.

Raheem Sterling has played, what, thirty minutes total in two games?

And in those minutes, he has done about a thousand times more than Downing has during the entire season, in all competitions.

There seems to be this absurd meritocracy going on that somehow the senior players deserve more playing time by virtue of the fact that.... what?  the fact that they're older?  the fact that they were bought for massive sums of money?  what is it?

If I wanted an attacking threat in a game, I would play Sterling over Downing every day of the week.  That's not saying Sterling is a world beater.  It just reflects how dire and poor Downing has.  If he starts in the final, can you tell me what he has done, one thing, just one---to deserve to start ahead of anyone else?

No, you can't.  He hasn't done a damn thing since he's been here.  And yet he's undroppable.  And here we have Sterling, hungry to play, and he is rotting in the reserves when he is already miles ahead of any of our first team options.  They doubled up on him defensively tonight.  When Downing plays, they could practically take naps on the pitch without fear of anything happening.

Raheem is ready for the first team by virtue of the fact that he is the best winger we have right now, first team or reserves.  End of.

Anybody else think that he can cross the ball better than Downing already?  At least, he was connecting with Carroll.  I say - put him on the bench for the final.  He offers a spark.

He came on with 15 minutes to go and showed more desire and purpose than Stewart Downing has all season, and whats more, he wanted to ball continuously, kept running and moving continuously, didn't shy away like Downing.
