Jamie Carragher - Sensible Chat Only
« on: March 21, 2012, 10:20:45 PM »
Carra for the last decade has been the centre of our back line, he has won everything at this club bar a league title. He should never be the subject to any abuse by fans after everything he has gave this club over his 690 appearances. He's always said that when he knows his legs are done he will pack it in.

So what stuck out to me today was the way he was ordering our back line, and how the rest of our defenders just looked more nervous because of it. It just caused confusion within the defence, although losing Kelly didn't help much either.

So at the age of 34 he looks like he's lost his legs and doesn't particularly fit in our defensive system. What would you do with him? I know he's done some coaching so maybe it's time to move him into coaching? I just can't see him playing another season for it, I don't think he'll allow it personally.

I'd be blunt with him. He has a definite job on the coaching staff/youth team whe he retires (or at Sly Sports), but he's not good enough to play any more. So he can either retire, or go and play in China/America for a year and then come back.

I'll probably speak for most when I say this, I love Carra but he should not be starting any game unless absolutely necessary. He should be 4th choice and then finally released at the end of the season.

Really, the thread title requests sensible chat only. So why start it straight after a defeat where we ship 3 goals in 2 minutes? It's so obvious it's not a sensible time to start a thread where one of our most loyal players is going to be made a scapegoat.

Pretty much a fourth choice CB picking up a first choice CB's paycheck and heavily enjoying the fact we're not exactly being run on merit every time.

Coates should be ahead of him, but there's no need for hostility.  He's been an unbelievable "servant" to the club for so many years.  Doesn't deserve the stick he's getting.

Was a great player years ago but he should have been dropped when Rafa was in charge and I said as much at the time. On huge money and gives us nothing. We should be asking him to leave.

Believe he should be fourth choice and take a wage cut.

He could still do well in some places such as vital games etc. a few more games so he can get 700 appearences though.

Still not seen enough of Coates to be convinced he is better than Carragher.

Rather see Coates play at the moment, given results are less important as we can't come top four.  But I still think Carragher is good enough for fourth choice at least, maybe even third choice.

Think he's been on the decline for quite a while. Mainly highlighted when alonso left and us not controlling the midfield and then his hoofing come into play even more.

Looking from the outside I'd say he's only playing through favouritism

I agree. But he's going to get it anyway, and that's why football these days is just garbage.

It's all about money and full of knee jerkers that just make me want to walk away from the game.

I just wish everyone could step away even from a rough loss like tonight, have a pint, still have a laugh and a bit of perspective.

While I agree that he should be used less frequently and eventually be phased out, Carragher was far from the main problem against QPR.

Absolute LFC legend.

But there is absolutely no way whatsoever he should be playing ahead of Seb Coates.

I don't know, I just think him being on the pitch makes our defence nervous. Did you see him screaming at the players? It's not on especially when he is the liability in that back four.

Not in the first, second or third dimension, should Carragher be third choice ahead of Coates.

He has always screamed, it was never a problemin the past and shouldn't be now.  That is how he plays.

Don't think he was at fault for any goals tonight, personally.

When Reina, Enrique and Gerrard do badly they should be immune from criticism.

But every single bad thing is Carra's fault.

How long have you watched football for ? I have never heard anyone ever say a player should step down. That doesnt make sense at all. Football players don't step down they either put in a transfer request or are sold by the club.

Don't let him near coaching side of things. he's a stuck in the mud. A Hodgson in the making. He's not a progressive-thinking player, he wouldn't be a progressive manager. He'll be an Ince, a Hughes, a trad jazz Churchillian yard dog of a manager. Please Fowler nooooo.

This is what we should all be saying. He deserves no coarse negativity just because he's gotten older, but he shouldn't be starting.
You know what, I'm writing this here now and I'm going to put it in my signature and leave it there for the next 5 years, no matter how embarrassing it might or might not turn out to be: Jordan Henderson is going to be a fantastic player.
