We're on course for around 58 points which is the same that Rafa managed in his first season. Considering the fact that Everton finished above us that season (and Bolton weren't far off) and our recent spending spree, that is an absolute embarrassment. As is 4 home league wins all season.
No game better sums us up than the one today.
Miss a penalty? Check.
Awful substitutions? Check.
Usual suspects playing well/badly? Check.*
Carroll and others inexplicably left on the bench? Check.
Negative line-up, lack of players in the box, and 4-4-2 despite having the players for a 4-3-3? Check.
And so on. It's absolutely ridiculous. We've learned nothing at all since the opening day, which was actually very similar in many ways.
Once again we've managed to create a lot of chances in the first half (see Sunderland, Norwich, Swansea, and so on) but not take them and let the opposition back into the game, only to lose the game in the middle of the park in the second half and start to crumble under the pressure mentally. Then just let them score for fun at the end.
Coates should undoubtedly start every game from now until Agger's return. Shelvey should play instead of Adam. And Carroll - out £35m man - should be starting every game with Suarez and Bellamy (or Downing if he's not fit) either side of him. It's fucking incredible to spend so much money on one player and then refuse to play him, particularly in big games, and when he's in form, and when no-one else is scoring!
Also, what the fuck do we do in training? Because though our players are obviously bad at finishing and are mentally really weak, it's still not good enough. Finishing, corners and penalties should be the only things we ever bother on, because they're so far behind the rest of our game it's unbelievable.
Kenny has done absolutely fuck all to address the problems that we had on day one. We didn't do a fucking thing in January. The players still don't believe in themselves and generally only come out to play for the big games. And we're leaving our most expensive players (plus the likes of Shelvey and even Maxi!) on the bench when there's absolutely no reason to. In fact we don't even know our best formation.
The cups, I feel, are about to save some very important people from answering a lot of difficult questions. But generally our league campaign has been atrocious. We've certainly got the potential - in fact we could be six points(+) better off from converted penalties alone - but serious questions still need to be asked. Apologies if you disagree, but the truth hurts.
* What I will say is that Martin Skrtel is already our Player of the Year. What a set of terrific performances from him. He's a real leader.
