Did anyone think Suarez was given a real license to roam today? I know he pops up everywhere generally when we play but today it seemed like he just did his own thing. Lost the ball a few times during the first 20 minutes but even then he was just getting in all the holes, unmarkable.

Obviously its easier to do that against lesser opposition (no disrespect to brighton) but i think with Andy leading the line, winning the ball, laying it off to adam, henderson, gerrard etc that Luis can just float about and previously i hadnt seen him play with as much freedom alongside carroll. He was on the left, the right, in behind carroll, dropping really deep sometimes, i really enjoyed his performance.

Suarez is just fucking magical if he didn't play today we'd probably of laboured to a 2-0 win or something, just a special player, pulled it out the bag with regards to replacing Torres didn't we.

Brilliant stuff. The perfect way to lead into a cup final. It's given Kenny a headache on the selection side of things.

Great work, lads. Now bring on Cardiff.

Saw a stat displayed on the telly during the game that showed that Suarez had touched the ball something like 75 times, and Andy Carroll about 32.  Think that might be because of the free roaming role he has during the game, which makes him such a problem to the opposition.

I'll just say on the subject of today's chanting that I genuinely don't give a fuck about what anyone wants to sing and laugh about, but most of you on here clearly don't get the point. Read all my posts if you think me of all people is too PC or sensitive Talking about people being sensitive souls is just fucking ridiculous. When my dad was being called a ni**er and a wog in the 50s through to the 70's he'd have called you a complete c*nt and said things had gone mad at the thought that someone might be offended by any reference to coconuts or Bountys. Trivial as fuck to what he had to put up and he'd have laughed his tits off at it.  Now, people get arrested, convicted and criminal records for it.

Just think, Suarez was crucified because racism was the flavour of the month, with all the attention that the FA, Blatter and the Kick It Out campaign were giving to it. Today, our official website is advertising the Football v Homophobia week of action, an FA initiative. I couldn't give a fuck if every tabloid had a picture of the Kop with the headline "Queer Bashers" because their opinion doesn't matter to me one fucking bit. What does bother me is if just one complaint is made to the FA, who do you think is going to have it crashing down on them. The FA just fucking love us as we've seen. There's no way they'd stitch us the fuck up and throw the book at us is there? And if you can't see that singing chants like that is giving the FA the rope to hang us with if they decided to make another example of us, you're clearly a fucking idiot.

Probably said 75 because he never has the ball in his control, so the usual one touch is broken down into 5 for Suarez, 2 off his shins, one of his right foot left foot and knee before he's got it under control ;D.

Exactly the game we needed before Wembley.  Exactly the game Carroll, Suarez, and Downing all needed before Wembley.

3 OGs are the results of 28 shots and our team finally crashing into the box and kicking the ball towards the goal!  Imagine that...when you kick the ball towards the goal it sometimes goes in!

Loved Carroll racing back for the tackle to cover for Gerrard after his lung-busting run....it's a sign of AC's improved attitude and work rate in the last 6 weeks or so.

35 shots(compared to Brighton's 10), 14(some stats say 15) on target...

Oh yeah- a bit of trivia, Skrtel had a 94% pass completion and Gerrard had 3 times as many passes as his opposite number. With higher accuracy...

Agreed.  I think this was a match where it appears Suarez and Carroll found their appropriate roles as forwards, with Carroll, for the most part, playing central, on the last man.  Suarez, meanwhile, roaming all over the place.  Whereas in previous matches we at times had Carroll playing as a "7" or a "10."  It doesn't matter if Suarez is probably a better "9" than Carroll, if both are going to play, Carroll needs to be at the front of the attack, because Suarez is much much better at the "7" role than Carroll.

Overall, I would say, the partnership needs at least 5 consecutive matches with each playing significant minutes together, and each playing the roles they did today, (and with Steven Gerrard also playing!) to get an idea as to how effective it can be.  These are two very different types of attacking players, so naturally they might need more time to adjust to each others games.  And we've had injuries and suspensions that have derailed this process.

i saw somewhere that it was the first time gerrard, suarez and carroll started a game together.  hopefully more bright things to come :)

You honestly think those fucking bellend weren't writing more sanctimonious shite about how it was deserved that Suarez missed the penalty and how Liverpool should get rid after all their other fucking bile?

I can imagine them having to rip up their twatting bollocks in disgust when he scored.

Agreed.

I enjoyed the match tonight, thought the atmosphere was decent and the performance was good. There was a while in the first half when I thought we were lacking something in midfield, but we seemed to sort it out in the second half.

Skrtel is playing really well at the moment and as others have said, Andy seems to have remembered what he's capable of!  Nice to see him and Suarez looking like a partnership.

Most annoying part of the day was when they switched the draw off midway through in the concourse!

Was in 306 were a lot of the chanting was going on and everybody was in good spirits and having a laugh with the songs. Obviously people on here who watched at home will tell us how wrong we were to do so but hey I guess that's RAWK for you.

I was at the front of 305 singing my heart out all game, but swerved those chants.  I'd say that others did too.  Volume was 20%-ish down compared to other stuff sung.  Was embarrassed by them to be honest.

Tell you what, Carroll is climbing all over that Brighton defender for the 6th goal.

Not that I give a shit, but he is.
Shithouse ref mate. Andy won 4 penalties there.
The only way I can see it going through (signing Mkhitarayan) is if Pinky & Perky get their pilots licence.

fair play to wee Gordon there...dont expect to hear good sense on ITV's Football coverage

One of the good guys is Strachan, got lots of respect for him standing up for Kenny and Luis last week.

And he's responsible for one of my favourite ever press interviews too ("Gordon, can we have a quick word?" "Velocity" *walks off*)

Agree with that, couldn't make any sense of the previous setup with Carroll being the one to drop deep. It's not his game, never will be but Suarez with that amount of freedom can do real damage. I'd even like to see us try a 433 sometime with Suarez and Bellamy/Dirk either side of Carroll. Nice to have options though.
