How do we spot a fake cup final ticket?
« on: February 15, 2012, 04:23:22 PM »
Not sure if raising this subject will get me a ban from the mods, sorry if im breaking the rules,
Disappointed in the fact they wont have an exchange for the final though.
Just have to wait till on the day.
Only ever missed one final ive turned up to with out a ticket and that was west ham in Cardiff because I took my 9 yr old son and needed two tickets.

Arsenal 2000  Athens 2007  Wembley 1996

So any way can I ask what we are looking for in terms of security, how will we know if it’s a fake?

All ways had good info from this site in the past about what to look for in fake tickets etc.

I'd suggest people with tickets to take some confirmation down with them.

That would be pretty easy to blag as well to be honest.

I assume the tickets will be getting scanned, not ripped.

They've got barcodes on them so I don't see how any fakes can work for this if it's scan?

You'll get through the turnstyle with a photocopy of the barcode only.  Its the fellas in front of the turnstyle which need to see the actual ticket.

I hope someone makes a fake from their ticket to try and rip someone off - then the person they sold to goes in early and they're locked out.  Happened in Barca 2007.

i got stung for a fake in the Chelsea champions league semi when Riise scored the og.  Wasn't planning on going but dot finished work early and was on way home up the west coast line.  Thought I would stop off at Crewe and go to game without ticket.  Was meeting mates but they were late so I had to walk round in my suit with one of those little suitcases on wheels that you drag behind you.  I looked like a naive dick and bizarrely behaved like one.  Paid 70 for a fake, all the warning signs were there but I still bought it.  I still imagine the tout laughing his pants off with his mates in the pub afterwards. By the time I had met mates, the ticket had fallen apart.  It was so bad I didn't even try to get in with it.

I knew a Chelsea fan who managed to get me a Chelsea spare and I ended up in their end.  Simply cannot describe how bad that was.  And then Riise..

I have had better days.

I wouldn't recommend buying off the black market, but a couple of hints regarding the tickets if you do.

The first 'L' in Liverpool underneath the price, is in a different font to the rest of the word;
The hologram has 'veritas' several times, with the Football League logo imprinted over it; and
if you hold up the back of the ticket to the light and look closely, you can see the Carling and Football League logos on the Wembley Stadium plan.

Hope im not in trouble posting this its hard to know exactly what the mods will ban you for sometimes.

ok been trying allsorts of sources, put an add online at a well know classified add site, your not supposed to but blagged it as i saw others on there, any way as you can imagine ive had a few right sorts tryin it on, one guy from london, he  had an asian accent wanted £200 per ticket he had 4 i wanted 2, i said i would meet to collect, he wanted me to pay half now by bank transfer and half on collection, lol. then he sends a text "do you want them or should a sell to the other bloke"  just said thanks mate sell them to the other bloke.
Now ive got this guy from scotland who has 4 he got them for his uncles birthday present but his uncle is already sorted so they are spare, he said he got them from ebay, i said how did you do that? you cant buy them on ebay, he said oh thats what my mum said she got them from ebay, hes saying what i have offerd him for them is too much and he wont accept that much so he will do me a deal for all 4,
so ive already said i will come to scotland and pick them up in person, he was willing to send them courier, as he works for a credit reference agency whos name i wont mention. I have his office land line number, and his gmail wich he uses his full name,
but cannily hes mobile is unknown, I believe at the moment hes a confidence trickster, comes across as nice chap wants to do me a favour etc, last phone call ended he will send me an email with the details of the ebay transaction and a photo of all four tickets with the days news paper headline in shot (if it’s the s*n I don’t want them)
so in case you don’t already know do not send money to any one in any way. Offering to meet them in person at a public place of there choice is good way to filter the con artists.

You know what I wouldn't bother my arse mate. Just watch it on the telly certainly wouldn't get one off the net. I know it's important and a final and all that but you know what you didn't meet the criteria so give it up as a bad job.

Right mods, can you kick this one around the staff room, and get back to me.

Being that there are shit loads of forgeries going around, can I answer the OP's question about spotting fakes?

As by now, the forgers will have had long enough to replicate the tickets, printed them, and distributed them.

Nothing I'm going to put on here will of been over looked by the forgers, but hopefully they didn't have the technology to replicate.

basically a guide to wary buyers, including the ticket safety features. Etc.

Failing that, If you want me to leave it until a couple of days before the final. etc, to give any would be forgers less time to do their dirty work. Although lets be honest here, they will of had their hand on genuine tickets for weeks by now,  anyway.

Let me know.

Sound Barney.

Just one quick one I'll throw into the ring, without giving anything away, and something very simple that everyone can do.

First of all, both short ends of your ticket should have a perforated edge, not a smooth one

Secondly, to address what someone else above has said regarding the forgeries being a little bit bigger than the originals.

If you offer up a Ten Pund Note to the bottom right edge of the reverse of the ticket, the opposite edge of the bank note should be in line with the Wembley touchline, on the ticket.

I'll leave it there for now.

Whats the head bang for?

Any ONE bit of info I put in here, next week is not going to solve every forgery spot. Some people will be that desperate, that they'll still get caught out, but fore armed is fore warned so to speak.
The forgers at this stage, already have their hands on original tickets, so sticking stuff in here ain't going to make any real difference.  By now, they'll have already started to pump out the fakes.

Later next week. I'll throw on here, five or six bits of info, which when combined all together should weed out 95% of the forgeries.  Thats not to say, some of them wont be sophisticated, I'm sure they will, but we can only do what we can do, to give people as much of a heads up as we can.

The ten pound note trick above is very simple, as most people will have a tenner on them, yet at the same time, it's quite effective if the fakes are a little bit bigger than the originals, as the printing may also be a little off. Combine that with perforated edges etc.

Don't get me wrong, there's no substitute for having a real one to compare it next to, if your mate has a ticket and you don't.

My simple rule will be to head to Wembley and if anyone offers me a ticket I will pay them once we are both inside the ground. :)  For me that is the only way to sort it unless it is someone I already know who has a spare.

There are plenty of cretins out there with £500 plus ticket offers.

I think I love football more than woman...

I'm sure you'll get a lot of advice about fakes, but one other relevant bit of advice I'd give anyone is to make a sign that you can hold above your head - preferably a hands-free one so you can carry on drinking ;D I went to Cardiff in 2006 without a ticket, spent about 3 hours walking around aimlessly asking people, was getting nowhere and wasn't enjoying any of it. Then I went to a Travel Agents (there was one just outside the station) and asked them if they'd print me a sign which they very kindly did. Within 20 minutes of going back into the crowds this lad came up to me saying his mate was selling a spare. If I was doing it all again, I'd even get a random 99p SIM card and print the mobile number on the sign as well. In big crowds someone just 10 yards away might not hear/notice you asking for spares, but they'll definitely see a sign, so let it do all the work and you try and enjoy the atmosphere.

I did pay the fella the money, just cos I wanted the ticket in my hand and also as I was worried he might renege on our deal if he got a better offer. But I did make it clear that I'd be staying right by his side until we were inside the ground. So I just stood there drinking with him and his mates - it was a bit awkward at first, me essentially saying I don't trust you to walk away, and him having to make small talk with a total stranger he'd just fleeced.

The funniest thing was after I got the ticket I ditched the sign, then I see this random bloke who'd obviously picked it up and was walking round looking for a ticket ;D I wonder if it worked for him!
I think we'd have won the league if we'd sold Keane to Man United.

If it was for a European Cup/Champions League Final i'd happily wear a plain white t-shirt with "NEED TICKET FOR FINAL, PAY DECENT MONEY, ONLY HONEST FUCKERS NEED APPROACH - NO FAKES" in large, black bold writing with a Liverpool Crest at the bottom....screw what anyone thinks of you if you had that or are even cutting about with a sign I say.....If I seen someone doing it, i'd think, "He's got balls" and if I knew someone who could help him i'd send them his way  ;D !!!

In is In  8) !!!
"If you can't support us when we lose or draw , don't support us when we win" - Bill Shankly.......the best quote the great man ever said.

its simple, buy a ticket from the club and you wont need to 'spot a fake cup final ticket'.
Above all, I would like to be remembered as a man who was selfless,
who strove and worried so that others could share the glory,
and who built up a family of people who could hold their heads up high and say

not looking for a bite mate, just seems a pointless discussion to me. if you buy off a tout, then you deserve to get stung. we all know people who want to go who haven't got tickets, but buying a ticket from an unreliable source is just gonna cause trouble down there.
