If you go to the Virgin Trains website, search for trains going on the day leaving at 7 coming home at 5. It'll come up with the normal ones for like 75 quid but then if you scroll down there is an option for cheaper trains on slower routes. A lad on here posted it a few days ago and me and a few other lads I'm going with booked it. It takes longer to get there, about 4 hours, but it's only £26.50 return. You have to get on London Midland trains and change at Crewe/Stafford. We're on the 7.04 from Lime Street and the 17.45 coming home.
oh sound. i'll have a look now

i had a look and the 7am trains still available. the only issue is the return

21:28 London Euston
00:04 Birmingham New Street    Train    LONDON MIDLAND    02h 36
09:42 Birmingham New Street
11:21 Liverpool Lime Street    Train    LONDON MIDLAND    01h 39

unless we just "accidentally get an earlier train"

The return part is open on the london midland 26.50 tickets.  You can get any combination of london midland trains back.

There are trains at 1545, 1645, 1745 with one change only.  You'll defo make one of these even if extra time and pens.

We have two spaces in the car but we're parking somewhere just outside the M25 and getting the chiltern line in to Wembley so no bag drop option.

How much is it to get from Euston to Wembley and how easy is it for a 16-18 year old?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks in advance.

If you walk along the main road to Euston Square (5 mins), you can get the tube (Metroplitan line) to Wembley Park, and be at the ground within about 30-35 of arriving at Euston. About £5 return. And unless you have some sort of disability (which I'm assuming you don't) then it is just as easy for a 16-18 year old as it is for someone in any other age category. As long as you have learnt you Green Cross Code, as there are a couple of roads to cross.

Got a dilemma now. Can't swap trains on the way down apparently because the deal was specific to the train we booked. So we either get the original train and arrive at Euston about 11am if there's no delays or gamble on getting an earlier train and pleading ignorance when the tickets are checked.

Can't decide, earlier train means more drinking time and the later train will mean a couple of swift pints near the ground.

Just been doing some digging on the virgin website and there's nothing to say our ticket isn't valid on any weekend train so long as there are off peak tickets for sale. So fuck it we're back on plan for an 8.15 arrival in London.

Right just done a bit of searching. Heads up for anyone who normally travels through Preston or from there.

Preston - London now about £78 return.

You can go from Preston to Manchester Piccadilly (£8 duo return ticket) then get one of many Manchester to London for £36 return with London travel card. So total price would be about £44 with an added 20 mins or so on journey time for changing over trains.

5.15pm kick so pretty much last train back.

The games that weekend have been moved to the Sunday, surely the FA will be sensible and move the kickoff to 3pm, 5.15 is just ridiculous for people trying to get home.

London to Crewe. Only direct train going back that way and try and sort a lift from there is what I would suggest.

Wanted the stay over ourselves but too much hassle on the trains.

According to National Rail there'll be a replacement bus service between Crewe and Lime street:

Saturday and Sunday
The following alterations will apply:
Trains which normally operate between London Euston and Liverpool Lime Street will not run, however, on Saturday morning the 05:47, 06:45 and 07:48 Liverpool Lime Street to London Euston services will run throughout
From 08:00 on Saturday and all day on Sunday, trains between London Euston and Liverpool Lime Street will start / terminate at Crewe. Buses replace replace trains between Crewe, Runcorn and Liverpool Lime Street

I was going to stay over as well (assuming I can get a ticket for the game) but it's looking like it'd be too much trouble with transport.

Why can't the kick off just be 3pm? Stupid tv. Especially with possible ET, pens, celebrations and tube queuing it is unlikely that everyone will make the last train back up north.

Done that £26 return London Midland thing for the semi, no problems getting down to Wembley saved us a lot of trouble actually by swapping the trains over at Birmingham instead of Stafford, and that train then taking us to Wembley train station (the one in the Everton side though, not the one near The Torch).

Was a bastard getting home this morning though, was supposed to be a 7am train but when we got there it had been changed for some reason, then a couple of Virgin trains turned up but we couldn't get them, so ended up having to wait around Euston ways for an extra 3 hours.

The tickets worked on all the undergrounds an buses aswell, not sure if they were supposed to or if they were just letting everyone with any ticket through cos it was so busy
