All he had to do was shake a hand, it's no effort is it? The whole thing today was just petulant and childish, from Suarez' refusal to shake hands to Evra whooping and hollering like a fucking cheerleader at the end. Embarrassing for everyone.

Wayne Bridge refused to shake Terry's hand none of the QPR players were going to shake Terry's hand and it was widely reported that half of the United team were not going to shake Terry's hand last week.

One thing does need to be said: in the post-Benitez era, there was media-led clamour (but also some politicking going on at the club) to make the club more English; the idea being that the club had lost the very essence of what it means to be ‘Liverpool’. Guillem Ballague 18/11/10

If Luis HAD shaken hands, the media would simply have stated that it was finally an admission of guilt.

Exactly...he can't win no matter what.

Suarez was fucked either way.

1. Shake Evra's hand - Oh, he's finally admitted his guilt after months of lying.

2. Evra refused to shake his hand (which was going to happen, Evra doesn't offer it) - Poor dear sweet brave Evra, of course he's not going to shake the hand of the devil himself.

3. Suarez doesn't shake Evra's hand - What we got.

The way our own club has dealt with the Suarez situation is bad enough. Theyre too timid to do anything, just like they were timid in not appealing the Suarez decision, if Kenny, the Club and Suarez himself believed he was innocent.

Agreed. We are run by the most spineless board in British football.

I reckon you should manage us. Play that Christmas Tree formation from CM01/02, doesn't matter how fit the players are in CM, you can always win no matter what with that.

Why the fuck should people "move on" if they feel aggrieved?

I can understand Suarez feeling aggreived but unfortunately this isn't just about him, it is about Liverpool Football Club.

The club have been totally behind Suarez throughout the whole of this incident, he has had the Manager come out and speak solidly in his defence, he has had the players wear the t shirts and the supporters shout his name.

It is now time for Suarez to repay that support.

Only a few days ago Kenny said "People are already speculating on the pre-match ceremony, but from Luis's point of view we have spoken to him and I know he will shake the hand of Patrice Evra and the other Manchester United players before the game." and yet after all that Suarez goes and refuses to shake Evra's hand and opens the club up to all sorts of criticism, and has Kenny being questioned about his behaviour yet again.

I understand Suarez being angry, pissed off, and hating Evra's guts, but that doesn't give him the right to drag the club's name down because of that, and it certainly doesn't give him toe right to tell the Manager he will shake Evra's hand and then not do it.

LFC is more important than any one player.

I think Valencia has him sussed to be perfectly honest. He knows exactly what he's going to do, which is try and shield the ball, and every time he does so Valencia just kinda goes to engage, then as soon as Enrique is commited to it, Valencia fucks it off and runs past him with the ball. Enrique just ends up wrestling space.
I agree. Not the best of match-ups for Enrique. Turned him inside out a couple times. Enrique could've used some help as well, but there was none coming.

If you jump on anyone criticising Suarez's actions, you're a complete fucking biff

By not actively shaking Evra's hand - hatred for him or not - he's..

a) incentivised United
b) prolonged the debate
c) taken the focus off the football

SIMPLE AS

You're dreaming if you think this wasn't going to drag on regardless. If it wasn't the handshake it would have been something else. We've seen that with the behaviour or Evra and Suarez today.

Haha, brilliant isn't it?

It's just another bad day. We hardly ever have those. We've scored less goals than every side in the top half of the table, and Blackburn, but nevermind. Kenny!!
It's bad luck. Nothing else. Just so unlucky. I mean we beat City AND Utd, let's talk about that forever and say everything else is bad luck.

more worried about the footballing side of things rather than all the other nonsense today. don't want downing to put a shirt on again, absolute waste of space. we didn't play well and didn't really have the movement, pace and tempo to cause united any trouble but downing is an absolute passenger.

I hate the fact that we as a club are public enemy number one now. We had two great cup wins and everything was looking good again. Suarez is back two games and he kicked Parker and now this. I don't know if it's worth it anymore. Suarez needs to think about Liverpool Football Club before he acts.
Let us never forget Rafael Benitez and what he did for us. A fighter full of guts and passion. A gentleman full of class and dignity. A football manager full of intelligence and pure genius. A Legend.

There is not one person posting on this board or commenting in the media or on Sky who would have shaken Evra's hand under similar circumstances.  How on earth can Suarez shake Evra's hand when he's had an 8 match ban and will be constantly pilloried as being a racist as a result of Evra's actions?  As I've said before, if you're going to make an example of someone over something like racism you have to be absolutely certain of their guilt - something nobody can be in the Suarez race.  All the FA (and subsequently the media) have done is to make matters far worse.

I would rather they lodge one about Evra's goading.

does anyone know what happened in the tunnel at halftime? ive heard 2 versions : first one was that evra had a swing at suarez , second one was evra trying to attack suarez but liverpool players holding him back? surely if evra was violent in the tunnel towards our player he should be investigated and banned for what..lets say..8 games?

We missed Lucas today.

We had Spearing trying to do the job which they had Scholes doing. He's a terrier, but letting him 'dictate play' wasn't a pretty sight. Gerrard had to come very deep to the ball to try and get things moving, which left Suarez isolated up front. And neither Downing nor Henderson seemed to know what their role was when we had possession.

Before the match it looked a decent side on paper and the pre-match thread was pretty positive. Easy to slate in hindsight.

As a fan base? You quote a poster and then extrapolate it to a fan base?

Actually, I think the main problem was putting two lads who obviously don't like or trust each other in a position that they have to shake hands (while moving past each other). Neither of them wanted to be the one to be snubbed and lose more face. Suarez looked down and kept his hand in the same place for each handshake, making the united players bring theirs forward a bit and Evra didn't until it was too late. Don't really blame either of them to be honest. It is an absurd an hypocritical ritual and means nothing. It's something you make little children do. I'm not sure why either team agreed to it to be honest.
agree totally with this. we were poor but the media is so one sided it is unreal. ferguson needs brought back to earth, cantona was bombed out of man u for attacking a supporter and keane for ending a players career, for the cheap shots he takes at liverpool

At last Ferguson shows his true colours. This whole thing has been orchestrated to get Suarez out of Liverpool.

Exactly. Suarez may not be scoring goals for fun but you'd have to be blind if you can't see that whiskynose's real concern is about the only Liverpool player who's a consistent threat to United.

Well maybe that is Kenny's error, maybe he didn't check with Luis and shouldn't have said anything. Luis probably wouldn't have a clue what Kenny has said to the press either.

Tell you what Im watching that handshake again and call me mental but Evras hand isnt there to be shook. Hes very clever. Then the millisecond Suarezs eyes go past he raises his hand to shake
Kinda , but Luis didn't want to shake his hand anyway, if he did he would of offered his hand out to evra

you are blind if you cant see that

Evra certainly has his hand dropped a fair way. He's waiting for Suarez to offer his, but Suarez skips straight past.

The problem is, by arguing that Evra also refused the handshake, what you're saying is that Evra's premeditated thoughts were: "What I'll do is, I won't offer to shake hands. Then, after Suarez walks past, I'll grab his arm and try to make it look like actually I wanted to shake hands. Because that will play really well in the media if it's obvious that Suarez actually wanted to shake hands".

The above is incredibly unlikely. It just doesn't make any fucking sense. That Evra was waiting for Suarez to offer to shake, then was genuinely annoyed when he didn't, is in accordance with the video and makes a ton more sense.

I have to admit that that was what me and my brother said at the time, but concluded you couldn't really tell but it wasn't conclusive either way.

Evra does drop his hand as Squarez approaches.  Suarez has his hand out and does go straight past Evra (whose hand is lowered) at which point Evra raises his hand.
